Even though Jill Farren Phelps did a horrible thing by killing off Maureen Bauer, I still think that the show was good up until 1998 when that whole clone Reva storyline came about. And in my opinion has not recovered since.
Beverlee McKinsey had the last laugh as Jill Farren Phelps did not read the contract that Beverlee could leave any time she wanted. Anyways she killed the Guilding Light and Beverlee left at the height of the show.
Aaaaah, the wicked witch of the soap world Jill Farren Phelps as EP during this period. JFP would also go on to be partially responsible for the death of another P&G soap in Another World.
Thank you Jill Farren Phelps, Michael Laibson, Paul Rauch, John Conboy, and Ellen Wheeler, the dumbasses for ruining GL for the last last 18 years.
Isn't the 1989 version withthe light still turning shining on the credits. I loved those. The reason they do that is because they claim it saves air time and commercial space. I would prefer to see the credits and intros completely and in order as well.
Thanks to that (among many other fuck ups,) Guiding Light is getting cancelled. It's final episode is on September 18. Admittedly I was never into soaps all that much, but I'll sure miss this one! It's been around forever! Cbs, see what happens when you fuck everything up and don't do anything about it when it's obvious that what you did isn't working? No wonder GL's ratings went down so much! You didn't listen to the fans of the show!
r u tryin to ask y they show the credits at the beginning. I have no idea. That's a good question. Well, I would have to say that its a new day and time, so they might want to try somethin different, but I would rather them showing the credits at the end with the theme song. They don't do that n e more, either!!! Sad, but true!!!

Actually, her contract said she could quit with 8 weeks notice. She gave notice the day before she left on her 8 week vacation.

The Guiding Light is not the
longest runing daytime drama, its not the longest runing drama, its not the longest runing soap opera!
It is not none of that. The GL is the longest runing show in TV history not just daytime, not just drama, but TV history!
The GL needs a little more respect to show that no TV show have come close to what THE GL has done!!
Thats so direspectful to get rid of a perfect TV history show!!! Its the best and all ways will be the best!
Show GL some RESPECT!

My favorite part of this closing is the verry end. You know, the part where you hear those four notes? Does anyone remember:
1. Sometimes hearing those four notes accompanied by music and other times by themselves (as indicated in this clip?)
aand 2. Hearing the same to things at the end of As the World Turns? BTW, what were those four notes all about anyway.
DorvellTStewart 3 years ago
I think those four notes were the logo which identified the show's sponsor, if you will.

The notes were for PGP Proctor and Gamble Productions, the show's main sponsor.

Today, you're lucky to even see the credits on more than 1/4 the screen!

I agree. They have ruined it for soap fans by removing the closing credits/theme!

You mean credits of TV shows nowadays have the credits on one side of the screen with promos on the other speaking at the same time?
