I use to live in that area at the beginning of this video that shively, I think that we had almost more damage then any other part of Louisville. We called it the wind storm.
I live two hours north of Louisville. We had just about the same amount of damage. Oh yeah, and the power loss caused my entire house to burn down at 4 a.m. while we were sleeping. Now I am permanently terrified of storms.
I remember when this happened, and we all lost power for days and days, I thought if this HAD to happen, it was the best time. It wasn't that hot, so we didn't miss the AC. But temps were pleasant enough so we didn't need heat. And still being Summer, there was sunlight until around 7:30 - 8:00 PM. There's never a "good" time for a massive power outage, but this was the least worst, if you will.
I remember this day so well. we were leaving church and this guy almost got blown off his feet when he walked out the door and then a tree split in half like 4 houses down and landed on a house. It was terrible but no school
I think the big winds hit on a Sunday if I am correct. I had to go into work the next day at UPS. Power was out at my house for a few days going into work seemed like a break from all the drama. Well the power went out at work and I was stuck working a 10 hour shift (part time job) The ice storm was worse on UPS though, I went in that day at 4 and didn't get home until 3am.
honestly I found this very exciting because I just sat on the frount pouch ......and it was weirdly it was nice with out power, even though we got a generator, because it was relaxing without all the electronic "buzz" with the power..... and because. I got to ride the go-kart to my grandmaws ALOT
Was in kentucky for the ryder cup back in 2008. Have to hand it to you Kentuckians you really pulled together & got through that crap weather. London would have come to a stand still! Congrats on winning the cup by the way.
I don't ever want to see anything like that again. I live on a second floor building and literally could feel the building moving that day.. Scared me to death!
Strange day, no rain, no lightning, no thunder, just plain creepy, no electric for a week.. SUCKED, not fun! Lol. I would pick this over the ice storm any day though. It was too cold.
When it comes to hurricanes ... more northern states, including KY, done 'get it' as bad as the southern states. The most the northern states get is the rain and some (strong) wind.
It's even stranger that they actually had police and fire crew out as a result (unless they were called by others for other situations whether or not they were in regards to the weather).
I'll never forget that day as long as I live. I always wondered what it would be like to be in a hurricane. I've never experienced anything like it before. The power of Ike was incredible.
you think, I made money after the windstorm we had little damage at home and I have a truck and trailer , good combination but I was stuck after ice storm
You've got like 3 seconds of the actual storm, and just a bunch of storm damage like every other video on here. I've been seeing the trees down & lights out for like six days. Lame.
This video was uploaded the day of the storm, a mere hour or two after the storm had passed. I put it up before the news had shown coverage because they left NFL games instead of covering this disaster. It was here to allow people to see the damage that had been done.
yeah the news channels could have done a better job on covering the storm because this was serious louisville usually doesnt see hurricane force winds for 4 hours straight
omg i live in ireland and we dont get hurricanes or tornados or earthquakes por anything like that! id be like so scared if i even went on holiday there!!
im part irish :P. i think my great great great great grand daddy was born in ireland! lol, but i got soo much damage on my house and i didnt get power til about an hour ago. lol
That is so bizarre that you have the accident at 1:21 on recording. I drove by that on my way to check on my office on Bardstown Road. Great footage though!!!!!
This was the craziest this i have ever witnessed! i just got my power back today! 3 days no power and 2 toddlers! LOL had to tape flashlights to them so i could find them!
the news said this disaster was even worse than the 1974 tornado outbreak that hit this storm caused three times more destruction than the twisters im at a friends house typing this and i still do not have power i the highlands and it sucks
its a lot worse in whitesville ky my neighbors tree the roots and everthing was off and our van almost crushed. tree in our fence. my mom says someone at her work she got hit by a tree and her face was messed up it was scary about 29 hours of no electricity at my house about 10 or 12 firetrucks everywhere it was just scary
I LOVE THE PIANO SONG :))))
