Looks fantastic! I personally don't like the Letterbox option on the camera because you get the black bars all the way around the picture-- not just the top and bottom but side to side also. Try shooting in Squeeze mode and then transport the footage as 16:9 and it'll set everything beautifully for you for a full screen.
unfortunately a lot of these tests are viciously murdered by poor compression... To show a video that focuses on quality [even colour] optimize the render settings for youtube.. No offense.. :P
great video, I also have the dvx100, which does not do 16:9 but yeah the bars and post and was looking for videos to see what/if how it came out having to do the stretch/crop. Very impressive video, editing, and cinematography. I also had a video with a couple thousand hits but because 'some-1' didn't want the song to be used, it was taken down. cheers
you could just letterbox in post to get 16;9 , not quite the same, but it works, also , if you do that you need to take account of it when framing your shot
This is not the original song I used for this video, because apparently someone thinks their song shouldn't be used in a youtube video with 13,418 hits. Too bad cause I loved that song and the band. Oh well. Enjoy.
What is the effect you overlay to get that film camera under cranking look. I dont know if I explained that correct. I mean how it gradually blows out with contrast?
Hey I actually shot this in the letterbox squeeze mode to test it out.. I usually shoot everything 4:3 but for this video I tried the Letterbox and then in Vegas Video I cropped it with the widescreen effect. This was what I ended up with.
can you please help me. how did you get the 16:9 on post? did you shoot it 4:3 or letterbox? then what did you do on post? i need to get this look. please help.
After I wrote this comment I found software that is supposed to make Standard Definition into High Def - 'Instant HD' by Red Giant - I'm doing tests- it cleans up video but I'm not convinced yet - It does blow up from 720x480 to 1440x1080 pretty well tho.
thats a hard question to answer.. i mean, for the money the DVX is absolutely amazing. but HD prices arent that ridiculous. I swear by the DVX, but wouldnt mind an HVX.
I used that camera to record my first short film and i loved it. Better then Sony's HVR-Z1 in my opinion, that i have already used also. 24p kicks ass!
for lack of a better word, this footage looks "gorgeous".
I would also like to know how you got that widescreen look as opposed to just letterbox.
And your images appear very crisp. did u use some adapter??
And this is a general question to everyone. When you guys transfer your footage to PC, hat format do u guys save it to? just regular windows AVI? Thanks
What? All the DVX100 footage I've seen looks cooler and more contrasty than what the XL2 seems to deliver. I'm currently trying to figure out which one to buy, and I used to be a XL2 fanboy based on the physical (sexy) looks of it, but I find myself turning to the dark side here.
The footage here is gorgeous. I was on the line between buying the DVX100 or the Canon XL2, but I'll be damned, this footage is absolutely fucking great looking.
Yeah that was an excellent video..good job. I was just wondering...as I WAS going to get the HVX and then realised to much money what with extra editing equipment needed...so now am thinking about the DVX100...if you shoot in the 16:9 mode...does it import in to a project without black lines to give the effect? Basically I just wanted to know if it will be displayed in adobe premiere pro perfectly at 16:9. Cheers.
HELLO FRIEND, how to pass the mini-dv to the PC without lost quality?

its all in post, none of the blown out looks came from the camera itself. it was just from messing around with the color correction

this camera is unbelievably amazing, i want it so bad, it looks so proffessional, definetly good for any indie film makers, too expensive though!

Are you using the AG-LA7200G 16:9 lens? I'm trying to see if I need it (I have the first DVX100 Model)

Im researching some prices....

I don't show people my videos on television. mostly computer and online stuff like youtube. so normal dv is okay.

The HVX doesn't require additional editing equitment.
dandobi 4 years ago
It does, I would have to upgade premiere to the HD version and also get an extra program to be able to capture the HVX HD format.

What were your camera settings for the snow scenes? (fps, etc)

at 51 seconds how did you achieve that flash into the old film look, Magic Bullet perhaps?
What were your exact settings?
ffonsok 5 years ago
I used Vegas Video to edit and at 51 seconds I just did some color correction and used a slight old film effect.

haha, and this is just a test? i liked what you did, it fitted the music very well, and your compositions! very nice -)
