Don't listen to this video!!! They don't understand the Dyson's place on the market it clearly stated on their website, on the box and FAQ's that this machine is intented for quick clean ups e.g accidental kitchen spills. That is the reason the Dyson has poor batter life.

Nose is probably a deal breaker for some of these. I have an 18v dirt devil like device (craftsman) and it's as loud as hell but it take rechargeable batteries, the same type you use in an electric drill. It was about $35 new, but of course you need the batteries. I think I'd use a honking big shopvac for the kitty little not some handheld device. But at twice the price I think the B&D probably is gonna get the vote but these buggers are loud.
The Dyson root 6 is the best hand held vac I've ever owned, as for the Black & Decker it's not worth my purchase I've tried it in Wal Mart and it was very very loud that it actually hurt my ears.
There's several reasons why I got one, it's an upright, it swivel steers on a dime, it's quite, it never blows out shit like others, that funky dead rat smell others do, the best hose that actually extends 3 times further than others tried, It's easy to dump & clean rising it out, and yea, I like Dyson. I'd need two more now for the cabin & house being I have mine at the shop office, Monster Garage. The cool part, @ $200 off for older new ones, Yea baby.
Easy there snippy... it was a standard test and regardless if the filter clogged or not, the other 2 did not. so if you used the cone as the control the other 2 are greatly superior to it because of the filter. If they replaced to filters in the other 2 and not the cone i can see your frustration, however they all received the same tests.
Ill just take my good old workhorse 4 Horsepower 16 gallon shop vac any day of the week, I havent encounter a mess yet in 7 years I couldnt suck into or blow away from it!
During the empty process, did you notice they dump the container, but carefully leave the filter completely plugged with flower to purposely flaw the test?

Repairing commercial over 30 yrs, we know who is serious. Dyson is the new serious.
Granted, most people don't have to pick up a pile of flour, but leave 4 yr old kids in charge of breakfast, & 5lbs of pancake flour can be a laughing challenge even for an old Kirby, but it gets it done.
Where it all fails, is how 99% of people deal with it afterwards.

Here's a piece of professional advice...Buy A good commercial vacuum. there are many good ones. And so many cost LESS than that junkbox Dyson. Common sense must prevail people.

Did you ever see the documentary of Dyson on the discovery channel? He explains were he got the idea for the cyclonic auction or Root as you like to call it, he was at a saw mill and saw a cyclone that collects the saw dust so he adapted that technology to a vacuum cleaner, you can call it anything you want (root cyclone) or whatever but he did not invent it BUT he is the first person to take the saw mill cyclone and adapt it to a vacuum cleaner.

Cyclonic action has been around since 1928, long before Dyson was even born, the first vacuums to use Cyclonic action were Filter Queen and Regina, and its very obvious you dont know what you are talking about, get your facts straight before you comment, thats why you did not do so well in school and have a lame job.

Also, the plastic is QUITE cheap, and the machine has too many joints, thus not as good as the avg. $1500 Rainbow, Good machine, better means of filtering.
The main machine of my Mom's and my Rainbow D4s (23 and 15 years respectively) have not cracked, but plastic, of any type does brittle over the years. The Rainbow is made of LEXAN based plastic, and yes, with the number of years of use from both machines, they did crack at the back of the power nozzle. But the machines still work VERY well. I have heard more complaints about the cheap materials the Dyson is made from. Dyson: Innovative? Yes. Lasts more than ten years? No.
If you read carefully before getting all flappy, I said "HOUSE DUST and such" which includes pet hair, crumbs, and other small particles you'd find in a normal home. Not a massive pile of huge wet soggy chunks of piss-dripping cat litter which you use a paper towel for, or 9 bags of pre-sifted flour which you'd find in a large bakery, or an entire shredded newspaper as you see in other stupid 'tests'. You'd hand scoop most of that stuff then vacuum what's left. Oh and CLEARLY. :P
This is ridiculous and shows either deceit or complete idiocy on behalf of the people who I guarantee are not independent, educated scientists. It CLEARLY states on the box of the Dyson that it should NOT be used for this much flour, or anything wet, and its claims of power and effectiveness only apply to HOUSE DUST and such (i.e. what it would REALLY be used for). This test doesnt even begin to represent the typical use it is DESIGNED for. Totally meaningless and will convince only idiots.

It was about $35 new, but of course you need the batteries. I think I'd use a honking big shopvac for the kitty little not some handheld device. But at twice the price I think the B&D probably is gonna get the vote but these buggers are loud.

The Dyson root 6 is the best hand held vac I've ever owned, as for the Black & Decker it's not worth my purchase I've tried it in Wal Mart and it was very very loud that it actually hurt my ears.

You might want to at least clean the filter once after you packed it with flower. Real Quality review here.
You can stop a Mack Truck coating it's air-filter with flower.
Carpet fir,fuzz, can be packed and still breath, & it's what the filter is made of. Flower blocks any fiber.

Easy there snippy... it was a standard test and regardless if the filter clogged or not, the other 2 did not. so if you used the cone as the control the other 2 are greatly superior to it because of the filter. If they replaced to filters in the other 2 and not the cone i can see your frustration, however they all received the same tests.

Repairing commercial over 30 yrs, we know who is serious. Dyson is the new serious.
Granted, most people don't have to pick up a pile of flour, but leave 4 yr old kids in charge of breakfast, & 5lbs of pancake flour can be a laughing challenge even for an old Kirby, but it gets it done.
Where it all fails, is how 99% of people deal with it afterwards.
Look in any vac, & it's packed full & heavy, and then they whine, it doesn't work. lol

Funny you should say that u3, the DYSON is a piece of SHIT actually. I would be happy to do a demo video of my DYSON and my 18V pivot vac that I bought for FOURTY DOLLARS on ebay brand new. The 18v pivot DESTROYS the piece of shit dyson.
My biggest regret??? Not seeing this video and buying the 18v pivot when I could still return the DYSON.

Dyson is junk....Just Total JUNK! When they first came out I went right over to it, turned it upside down and knew instantly it was simply garbage. Mr. Dyson has been laughing all the way to the bank ever since.

Did you ever see the documentary of Dyson on the discovery channel? He explains were he got the idea for the cyclonic auction or Root as you like to call it, he was at a saw mill and saw a cyclone that collects the saw dust so he adapted that technology to a vacuum cleaner, you can call it anything you want (root cyclone) or whatever but he did not invent it BUT he is the first person to take the saw mill cyclone and adapt it to a vacuum cleaner.

The main machine of my Mom's and my Rainbow D4s (23 and 15 years respectively) have not cracked, but plastic, of any type does brittle over the years. The Rainbow is made of LEXAN based plastic, and yes, with the number of years of use from both machines, they did crack at the back of the power nozzle. But the machines still work VERY well. I have heard more complaints about the cheap materials the Dyson is made from. Dyson: Innovative? Yes. Lasts more than ten years? No.

If you read carefully before getting all flappy, I said "HOUSE DUST and such" which includes pet hair, crumbs, and other small particles you'd find in a normal home. Not a massive pile of huge wet soggy chunks of piss-dripping cat litter which you use a paper towel for, or 9 bags of pre-sifted flour which you'd find in a large bakery, or an entire shredded newspaper as you see in other stupid 'tests'. You'd hand scoop most of that stuff then vacuum what's left. Oh and CLEARLY. :P

This is ridiculous and shows either deceit or complete idiocy on behalf of the people who I guarantee are not independent, educated scientists. It CLEARLY states on the box of the Dyson that it should NOT be used for this much flour, or anything wet, and its claims of power and effectiveness only apply to HOUSE DUST and such (i.e. what it would REALLY be used for). This test doesnt even begin to represent the typical use it is DESIGNED for. Totally meaningless and will convince only idiots.
