I think people who post these clips of asylums go out of their way to find the most inappropriate, unfitting music they have in their possession. Loreena McKennitt's music reminds me of an asylum slightly less than a pekingese reminds me of lime jello.
The doctor who was superindentent, Dr. James Decker Munson believed in the in the beauty is therapy philosophy. Restraints, such as the straitjacket were forbidden,
unfortunately he passed in 1929. Also, as part of the work is therapy philosophy, the asylum provided opportunities for patients to gain a sense of purpose through farming, furniture construction, fruit canning, and other trades that kept the institution fully self-sufficient.
and my comment meant that i am skeptical of the application. thats the grand and glorious story you hear from the outside. never trust industrialized western medicine for shit. its constantly abused. i would be suprised if this wasnt
the asylum is has some cool artistic designs it kinda sucks that there restoring it because it will never be the same I did some cool projects in there and I just wish I could of done more but it's cool either way its still cool
Actually, building 50 has a restaurant, offices, coffee shop, salon, aesthetic salon, art gallery, a great yoga studio, and a new sustainable clothing store. much more than gift shops. in fact the majority of visitors live right here in Traverse City. Making use of this building opposed to letting it rot. not the slightest bit creepy anymore. the condos are in different buildings and these shops are anything but gift shops.

If it meant that the patients were not electroshocked or other similar things, then it was best.

Yeah it looks beautiful where they restored the place but I wouldn't want to live there. Can you imagine all of the restless sprits that are there?
