Where was this venue? Is this the Mary Janes that's still in Houston...? For some reason I feel like someone told me this was an Austin venue...but I can't find any record of it ever existing here.
@soundofair As you can see in the background this is Maryjanes in Houston. Maryjanes no longer exists. The same people opened a club across the street called Walters at Washington.
@chasspeed Sadly, walters has now shut down. My cousins band opened for Arcade Fire there before they blew up at that venue. I also saw Joey Cape perform there. It was a fantastic venue and It will be missed as well as Mary Jane's (Which became Fat Cats, which will be missed too)
I met J Robbins, Bill and Kim when they were touring on the Jawbox Novelty tour @ Emos in Houston. They were very nice. I had an instant crush on Kim.
They were touring for Identikit, so I guess summer 2001.
Don't get me wrong, they were musically awesome. Their version of Meccano that night is still one of the best things I've ever heard. But the room might have been empty. J looked literally disgusted with the audience.
Fucking incredible! Even better than Jawbox.

@wayne7001 I had no idea. It had been a while since I was over at Walter's. The venues in Houston are dwindling

Mission:Control! is a perfect album. Every note is in its right place. I wish I could play the guitar just like J does.
However, the one time I saw Burning Airlines play, J seemed like he couldn't care less about the audience or the tour. Was that just in my town?

What year was this concert? I'm guessing everybody has an off night sometime.

I don't know, maybe he had a good reason.
