  • What are the prismacolor cool grey markers used for?

  • what exactly does the prismacolor premier cool grey markers do. Can they be used in shading portraits?

  • Awesome I am sort of an artist. Thank you!

  • Shes got a lovely voice! Good information and helpful tips. I really enjoyed watching this. ^ ^

  • What colors do you use for darker skin tones? I have a really hard time finding tutorials that don't focus on light skin tones.

  • i just got the 132 prisma yay!!

  • Hi Angela,

Thanks for all the tips! But I have a question - what do you do to avoid/get rid of/ deal with the wax bloom from the prismacolor pencils? It's driving me mad!!! Thanks:)

  • @miriorodergo Try brushing it away as you work. Also, gentle repeated strokes often allow that technique, so you can get rid of the bloom before it becomes incorporated into the drawing. Most all coloring pencils I've tried have that problem--comes with the territory, which is called wax. Anyone know of any clay based coloring pencils?

  • Thank you for sharing, and being very budget minded.

  • Prismacolors (soft), and Verithins (made by Prismacolor)(hard). The best quality, and their expense may be diminished by buying in quantity for a substantial discount in boxes of 1 dozen. Heavy-duty electric sharpener, but be careful not to over-sharpen. Erasure pens.

  • About the pencil sharpner, I have an Xacto. Model #W19505 CN

Wonderful point every time. Turn it to the right and get a point that can stap you.

    so sharp/

  • Thank you for sharing. I have a pencil sharpness phobia. What can I say.....

  • god she said, "Yall!" -_-

  • @bcrichguitar1st God, you used an emote!:O

  • @angelicshades god my favorite colour is red

  • Get over it.

  • @golds22 You are right. Seventeen years. That is how long i have been able to speak English. I just figured maybe we as a society should get serious about our language and actually speak it.... CORRECTLY. So no i will not get over it. k.

  • I noticed how sharp some of your pencils were.....and you never mention anything about sharpeners. I have tried SO MANY pencil sharpeners. How do you get your pencils to that new pencil sharpness??? Anyone please respond to.............

    phe57@mac.com

  • I use a sharpener for pencils from Hobby Lobby that has 3 tips, one for regular, one for large, and one for 'color'. These 'color' specialized sharpeners tend to give the tip a more squatty shape, which I believe helps with lead breakage, but really anything that gets your lead sharp will work! It's all about personal preference. I've seen artists who use rouge boards and others who take an x-acto knife to get the job done.

  • i luv u call me 7979100

  • Forget prisma markers I prefer copics and I don't like prisma colored pencils there not much different than regular colored pencils except the price.

  • i want prismacolor sooooo bad but they are alot of money! T.T

  • Red yellow brown and White this is how we get our skin tone right......blue and brown for natural black.

  • I would love to see some tutorials from you on how to use the pencils now. Hard to find a good tutorial on using the blender pencil.

  • @VfkFranticStar You can't by Prismacolors directly from the company unless you have a business, as you would have to buy in huge quantity. Only through an art supply store. Ask for a discount if you are going to buy from only one store, and if you think that you are going to buy a lot of stock for an individual; they will usually allow it. And you won't believe how much pencil stock you will go through; I have drawings which required over 300 pencils.

  • Prismacolor colored pencils (soft leads). Verithin colored pencils (made by Prismacolor)(hard leads). Pencil extenders. Eraser pen will refills. One L rule. One straight rule. Acid-free supports (paper, Bristol vellum, etc.). Soft lighting. TALENT. By the way, without the last, the rest won't matter.

  • Good place to get prismacolor pencils, at judging from where I got them, is ebay. Bought the 72 set piece for 43 bucks (which comes to about 60 cents per pencil), shipping included. It'd probably be rare for everyone to get that kind of deal by bidding, but it's probably worth checking out.

  • yes.. me too.. I agree with gonzalexxtube.. truly appreciate the information..

plus.. I seriously love your Work Space... so Awesomeee

Greeting from Bangkok Thailand here :D

  • I don't know if this was said in comments but the marker color blender also helps intence color (Or hue) just use a color, use the marker wait a couple of seconds for it to dry up, then use the same color and draw again. :D

  • er, angelicshades? i got some nicole brand colored pencils...do you know anything about them? they were 19$ for a set of 100, so does that allow you to give me hints on its quality? i haven't really been able to test them out yet since I'm still trying to sort them by color group. also i have lots of crayolas...are they okay? what set number of prismacolor would you recommend so that you don't spend a load of money?

  • hey i just want to know if prisma color pencils is better than faber castell color pencils?what do you think?? coz' im using faber castell right now...

  • @ahnica09 If you've used both, than use what works for you. I personally prefer Prismacolors, but I've heard good things about Faber Castell too. It's all relative to your working methods.

  • Thumbs up for Futurama reference.

  • @Wolvenblaze lol glad someone caught that!

  • No wonder my blends suck, I have a shitload of crayola.

  • what bout faber caster? what do u think of those? where do u get the eraser stick? do u use outliner pens?

  • Thank you Angelic this is very helpful, keep on the good work.

  • Interesting tutorial. However, unless you live in US- it's very hard to buy (actually, to even find!) Prismacolor pencils.

  • @SweetLemmon1 I've heard this from my friends in the UK. Most of them end up paying the extra shipping to buy from websites. Ebay might be a good alternative for folks outside of the US since most people do ship internationally and offer cheap prices that might help counterbalance the cost of shipping.

  • @SweetLemmon1

Yeap, but if you are in Europe an excellent alternative are Staedtler products of high quality. I used these products when I studied drafting and art some years ago.

  • Interesting tutorial. However, unless you live in US- it's very hard to buy (actually, to even find!) Prismacolor pencils.

  • Great stuff! I haven't dealt with colored pencils yet, so this has been my intro. I appreciate the information very much. It gets me closer to breaking out that set that I have sitting inside a box with the other art supplies waiting for my experiments. Looking forward to more of your clear and direct tutorials. And yes... EFII sent me, so to speak. Thanks!

  • @gonzalexxtube Glad this inspired you! Get cracking:D

  • @hinata >:D hoped my commet helped! i like this video! its helpfull! >:D

  • nice working place u got thr eh!

  • what is your opinion on roseart do you think they blend smoother then crayola or what?

  • I personally wouldn't use either of those brands. They're very waxy and don't blend as smoothly as Prismacolor brand pencils do.

To be sure, others have learned to work with Roseart and Crayola pencils, but on the whole, those are considered low quality brands.

  • i use tem both but!!! id also recamend for blending them get a nice white prima colored one so u can blen all the color layres u have! >:D hope dis helped! (i prefrer both but i like prismas better)

  • @pandakyi i would but them but they are a little pricey and yeah it did help

  • @hinatahyuga112214 Roseart and Crayola are the lower end brands of color pencils. They are very waxy and not to my preference. I primarily use Prismacolor, though if Roseart and Crayola work for you, than I suggest use what is to your own preference:)

  • @angelicshades yaa i have tjose same colored pencils and they work great

  • @angelicshades Roseart, Cra z Art and Crayola can actually create some cool effects; effects I've not been able to create with Prismacolors. Prismacolors are fine pencils, not knocking them. They're sort of like hard crayons combined with pastel pigments (which is what coloring pencils basically are: more highly pigmented crayons that are hard) The 'children's' brands mentioned are more transparent than Prismacolors and can do some fine work. They are not the lowest quality I've run across.

  • thanks for the tutorial. I'm into the Derwents

  • @bennymcfarlane Hey! Hi 5! I Also use Derwents colour pencils! Haha.Which model u using? I had been using the Studio version one and it really help me score my art result,Haha! anyway, need more help in colour pencil techniques, any tips? =)

  • the reason why the blender marker collect pencil junk is because it was meant for blending marker :) though I still think your idea works.

  • Neat. Now if I only had a bit of artistic abilities I would be all set.

  • fantastic demonstration......Thank you :D

  • if you really wont make the pencil go for as long as it can... using a box cutter shaving the wood down just a bit sharpening the led is really good... a + side if you like it is it comes out flat so you can shade easyer with it lol

  • thank you so much ^^ This was a great video and I love what you have to say. Please make another one soon! :D

  • Comment removed

  • I've not tried them, but I'll definitely add them to my list.:) However, if you've tried them and others and they work for you, than by all means use what works for you!

  • DERWENT!

    the best pencils

  • may you please do watercolour???

    i am bad at blending!:(

  • At some point, I plan to:)

  • nice vid

    hope u do another tutorial

  • very cool tools, i wanna be an artist when i grow up and i really like your help :) thanx :)

  • I SHOULD WATCH YOU IN DEVIANTART!

  • Tips you forgot. :)

-The marker colorless blender works best with Prismacolor and not other brands.

    -Electric erasers are pretty awesome.

-Sticky Tack/Mounting Putty is much more tacky than kneaded erasers so it can lift color easily. So can masking tape and Frisket Film.

-Paper. It's a pretty important part lol. I'm sure you know what kind is the best for you though.

-There are also school grade Prismacolors called 'Scholar'. They are cheap too.

-You can glue stubs to new pencils.

  • Thanks for the extra tips, HaniBlive! I've never thought of using sticky tack before. I will have to try that.

Choosing paper is a whole other ball of wax that I'm hoping to cover in a dedicated video.

Can you clarify what you mean by gluing stubs to new pencils? Are you talking about gluing them end to end and using them that way?

Thanks for watching and commenting! I will remember all these things for the future.:)

  • Oh haha I was running out of characters.

You can super glue the super short pencils to the new pencils and sharpen them right to the end. it's the same as using an extender with the pencils, but you use the actual prismas as the extenders. This only works for pencils that come unsharpened though. This way you can use them up instead of throwing them out. Picked up this tip from a tutorial somewhere.

  • i was watching a lot of videos about tools for drawing and i think this is the best, straight, simple, useful great .. thanks

  • Awesome. I'm glad it was easy to follow. I am hoping to get more done soon!

  • I just can't have enough prismacolor pencils!! I love them sooooo much!!! I think that every artists are addicted to prismacolor

  • YES PRISMA COLOR FTW definantly the best

  • hey..i like ur voice.........good piece of info there

    ...at 4:36...when u were blending..i felt like ..

there was an EARTHQUAKE(The whole Table was Shivering)....lolzz

  • i think that too

  • What's the differense between the white colour pencil and that pencil at 4.45 ? I'm really curious to know :)

I really like you tutorial! 5/5 from me =)

  • The physical difference between these two pencils is that the White color pencil has an opaque white lead while the Colorless Pencil Blender has a milky white semi-opaque lead.

Also, when you color with White, the pencil adds more coloring layer while the Colorless Blender breaks them down and is basically smoothing and stripping the pencil beneath.

Hope that helps some! Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you enjoyed this:D

  • *dances with* thanks hon! Glad to be here doing something more than laughing at random silly videos! There's so much I didn't know you could do with this place.

  • This is a really helpful beginning tutorial, it makes me want to restock colored pencils. But alas, I will stick to my markers. ^_^

  • You know I'd love to see how you do markers! They are still a mystery to me even though I've used them for awhile and have looked up other tuts. I just can't seem to get them to work the way I want (or maybe I'm just a control freakXD).
