The hole in the center of the cross is where these ambulances have their round flashing lights. A hole is cut out of the cieling of the vehical in order to install the flashing light. If you pull the light out, you're left with a hole.

Look at pictures of cars in Gaza that where hit by Israeli missiles. There is nothing left of them.
