  • First of all, great playing. Second, explorers get great tone because they have so much great tone wood. Just look at the size of the body of an explorer compared to a Les Paul.

  • yo man! it's very good.no cmment!Lucky

  • Tarataratattattà!!! TEQUILA!!

  • @Vespandblues Gracias amigo

  • Great video! Great tone! Totally unexpected from a Gibson Explorer!

  • @mshuptar thanks for watching!

  • never would have gave an explorer a crack at this style of guitar, but killer tone for it.

    hoodathunkit?

  • Tequila!

  • Nice tone and great continuity of note precision. Did you use a combination of scales if so which ones or are you strictly an ear player? Thanks

  • @mayito714 thanks for watching, I mainly used E major scale in different postions

  • cool

  • Id love to have an Explorer

  • sounds funny blues country sounds with that guitar

i usally no that only from metal stuff (metallica and so on)

  • explorer with rock n roll...xax0oa0x0oa0..is the best ;P...Bravo..good solo

  • what pickups are in your explorer. Are they the stock 496R/500T ?

  • yes they are the 496 and 500 stock factory pickups

  • The intro was Chuck berry style =D

  • this proves it, Explorer is the BEST!! Can play pretty much anything and sound awesome

  • I was thinking of buying an explorer, but I doubted if it was a versatile guitar. After seeing this, I've decided to get it. Awesome guitar and playing, by the way.

  • After I saw your vidio I became a believer. I just bought a Gibson Explorer '76 re-issue , and will pick it up in two days. I can't wait!! I have a Les Paul and a nice Strat, but it's time for something completely different. We play country-rock and I use a Boogie amp. Great pickin' too my friend!! Cheers, Bob

  • Congrats, fun guitar to play...thanks for the comment.

  • i friggin love explorers!!! i want one.

  • the funniest thing about this guitar is the tonal range you get from it, most people just use it to play metal, but it's capable of so much more.

  • IMO its just as capable as anything else with 6 strings.....its all in the player. Thanks for the comment.

  • is that a 90? ( by that i mean a 10% smaller explorer called a 90) would be interested to know.. nice playing anyhow

  • Thanks for the interest, no this is a full size explorer.

  • Great playing. Sounds like Black Oak Arkansas.

  • Love the explorer, and the playing. Good job.

  • nice...

I love the Explorer over any other guitar...

  • Man... That is blues! Nice playing and great guitar!

  • is the explorer a good guitar to play sat down ?

  • Not bad, it tends to wanna slide down your leg a bit.

  • i love the feel of the explorer sitting down

  • Very nicely played. I'm just on my way out the door to buy an Explorer, but it will be a while before I can do anything like that with it. :-)

  • i never thought that the explorer is just a metal guitar...but that you can make clean sounds that you...wow

  • wow man. you're playing my same guitar...except you are playing it damn well. 5 star

  • Hey, which song is is?

  • Its just a backing track from a CD put out by GC for guitarmegeddon. Thanks for the comment.

  • it's not called Gibson Explorer Les Paul, it's only called Gibson Exporer...

  • gee....... ya think!

  • Explorers are mistaken for heavy guitars.

  • Nice guitar! Explorers are my favorite gibson guitar. And you rock that was awesome!

  • Nice southern rock playing :)

  • thankyou sir

  • TEQUILAAAAA!!

  • You freaking rock man, that was amazingly fun to watch, tons of talent. 5 stars and favorited!

  • Thanks for watching and the comment friend.

  • great! was lookin for some country style

    pickin on a gibson. thanks!

  • that is something else than james hetfield xDD

but lynyrd skynyrd rulez and the solo of freebird is one of the greatest solos ever

  • i love your guitar xD

  • ITS NOT HIS!!!

  • sweet. sounds like an old dickie betts improv. your good.

  • Ok. you are a guy with an explorer and you clearly like to play country/bluegrass stuff with it. And I'm asking you to write me a slight review of the guitar because I'm buying one for bluegrass, Lynyrd Skynyrd kinda music.

  • how the hell can you just expect someone to review something just for you. go to the music store and play one yourself.

  • LOL... well said

  • Well, Maybe we don't have it our music store? And Maybe I totally want the guitar and I'm gonna buy it from the net, like wthout testing it or anything. I know its stupit but sorry for asking I think I'll go somewhere and die. Goodbye

  • Mievaan, I think you'll be safe with the Explorer. Lynyrd Skynyrd used them all the time in the 70's.

  • Maybe thats why I'm gonna buy it in the first place.

  • I love the fact that there's just this certain flow to it. Very nice playing indeed.

  • i love it, its clear that you have feelings

  • Good playin', dude! But the best part is playin' country with an Explorer! haha Not exactly a country 'n western guitar:P

  • Actually it is. When it has a natural finish. Allen Collins of Lynyrd Skynyrd used one. But he had burstbuckers insteadof those "heavy"pickups. i'm bying one too to play blues and southern rock.

  • That was very well played! I liked that when you alternated E-minor- and E-major pentatonics. It sounded like Finnish blues-guitarist Albert Järvinen or Eric Clapton...

  • Thankyou for watching and the nice compliment.

  • That was Amazing dude, I really respect how you put this video on here but actually took the time to realize that you're good enough too! too many noobs these days don't even practice! I'm almost as good you are but I lack "The Feeling" you know? that thing that makes the vibrato give you chills up your spine!

  • thanks shred

  • beautiful man. nice playing, nice tone, lovely guitar!

  • thanks

  • Wow that was very good!

Turn up your gain a bit, a little soft on the vid.

  • love skinnard dude

  • Nice scale... take a look at my Xplorer pro ! coment my explorer plz!

  • Great job

  • Pretty Good, Don't Stop!

  • AWESOME!!! KEEP IT UP!!!

  • Lovein' the tone man! Great solo.

  • les paul is playing the guitar ronaldsmusicfactory

  • Gibson Explorer Les Paul what do you mean by that?educate me is the explorer a les paul like the sg was?for anyone who dont know the sg was a les paul for a couple of years then les paul told them to take his name off and that he didnt like the sg.you got me thinking?

  • No the Explorer was the explorer and the LP the LP. I only added Lespaul to the title to draw more people to the vid.

  • o ok i just had to ask

  • are those jackson pick ups?

  • Stock gibson pups...490 and 495

  • What?

Oh you mean 500t and 496r pickups!

  • i like it... nice sound ;-)

  • great!!

  • is that all gold hardware? It's just my epiphone has all gold hw and gold pickups and i'm trying to work out what black pickups (emgs) would look like in it

  • yes all gold hardware

  • The Explorer played clean, now that's rare.

  • thats some funny bluesstyle

  • This is a lot more than noodlin'. Great work, and thanks for another utube jam session. LOL!

    *****

  • Thanks Rick and I would say the same about your slide playing ability...great version of "walkin blues"

  • I've never seen an Explorer played like that.

  • First time for everything!! Thanks for the comment.

  • Great playing by the way :]

  • I love it! What's the name of the song? Is it true that the older explorers are better?

  • Its just a jam track I found sometime back called country blues in E.

Yes the older exploreres as with any older Gibson is by far better than anything made today. Its all in the age of the wood.

  • OMFG!! i just loved it!

  • Thanks, nice of you to say!

  • nice, you got a great feeling

  • I love how you look so relaxed, you make it look easy :D

Id say its more rockabilly than blues but yeh cool :D

  • LOL....youre right it does

  • The beginning sounds like the Pee Wee Herman song, sorry but I just can't make it past that part in this video.

  • nice video, congratulations

  • 1:38 to 1:46..STEALIN' IT !Had to get those Allman Bros in there huh? lol

  • I would like to learn this song, but I don't know the name of it!!! Can you help me out?

That's my favorite looking explorer. I like the unpainted wood-look.

  • complimentoni!!!!

  • awesome.

  • I love Gibson Explorer!! is the best guitar in all fucking world!!!!

  • i love it.great playing im a firebird player, but ive been in the market for a good explorer. alot of good sounds in that one. cheers

  • Thanks bro, yeah it is a nice player for the money, however it is my sons buddies guitar.

  • nice video! but it's not Les Paul. It's Gison Explorer. LoL!

  • noooooooooo.........really!!

  • awesome I never heard a explorer played country style, great pickin' I enjoyed it.

  • it is the best guitar ever made... period :)

    nice vid..

  • Is it awkward to hold or play, because I don't wanna buy a guitar that I can't feel comfortable playing.

  • explorers are so veristile

  • dude you rock

  • Awesome, but one question. I'm planning on buying an explorer but I'm worried about the tone versatility. does it get variety of tones?

  • Yeah I think it does. Listen to the video again. I start on the neck and go to the middle and then the teble. all 3 positions have a distinct tonal characteristic.

  • (to booby... ha that sounds wierd!) if youre thinkin about gettin an explorer DO IT. YOU WONT REGRET IT. I got a vid of me playin mine doin the free bird solo... btw the pickups are stock... they just have covers on them.

  • very catchy solo, nice

  • Has A Really Nice Tone I Just Got An Explorer And Have Been Playing The Hell Out Of It Playing Skynyrd

  • damn thats fuckin good dude, rminds of Lynard Skynard Solos.

  • thanks dude

  • Les, you'll never go wrong with an old explorer, nice tone ........ I always looked for the explorer first in all of the skynard video's...old ones:)

  • i think the hamer xt standard korina sounds a lot better.

  • Superb playing, good to see the explorer flexing its country muscle. Keep it up!

  • Started out on the neck and switched to the bridge. Yes these pups are stock, I am playing thru a 66 BF Pro reverb with just a taste of Landgraff Overdrive.

  • very very very well... i am a fan of the blues and i can say your one of the best iv seen on youtube and i understand why u put les paul up there a very smart idea, more people would look at your video that way......peace..rock on!

  • i have to say that smackwell is pretty stupid to think that sum 1 that can play guitar like that dont know tha difference between a les and an explorer i do and ive been playin like 4 months!!!!!!!

  • wow, amazing...

  • great job man

  • well i think it is cool

  • Thrown down!

That ol boy has got them working man blues.

    You are a PICKER sir!

    And thats a fact

  • Thankyou for the kind words sir.

  • one reason it sounds like lynyrd skynyrd is cause its the same guitar allen collins plays and awesome playing

  • you contradicted yourself in the title, an explorer and a les paul are two completely different guitars

  • daaaaa.........gee do you thnk so??...I put les paul in the title so more people would see it. Believe me I know the difference.

  • lol, you tell him! if he read the little info thing you got there he would clearly see that you know what you're talkin about.

    BTW, awesome playing. Flippin SWEET!

  • nice vid, makes me really want explorer :D

  • 5 stars

    that ws awesome =D

  • explorer les paul?? shiiiiiit i want one of those

  • hahahahahahahaha.

  • considering the explorer made it's debut in 1958 ... heavy metal as big in 1958.. must be why

  • FORGET THE GUITAR ITS THE PLAYING.great playing sounds like skynard

  • dont u mean skynyrd?lynyrd skynyrd

  • you should use a les paul to play that kind of music the explorer is more of heavy metal type guitar

  • then you know nothing about xplorer OR heavy metal =\

  • i do so i suggest les paul for that its better sound

  • well, I ain't gonna critisize ya. However, you can achieve the same sound with Explorer and Les Paul. You just need to know the your amp, and your intstrument itself. Materials, scale, pickguards, all that and more contribute to the sound tone. Considering the fact that there is more wood on an Explorer than Les Paul, the tone will will sound more natural and not so syntetic, although we can debate this. Personally, I don't see why Explorer is more of a heavy metal guitar, apart from the shape.

  • thats what i mean the shape right on by

  • Because as we all know, its the visual appearence that determines what type of music a guitar can play. The quality of wood, type of strings, pickups used, and the player himself have nothing to do with the sound, its all about how "demonic" a guitar looks.

Dude, someone can play viking death metal with an Epiphone Casino the same way a classical jazz player can use Rhodes' signiture Jackson. Music has NOTHING to do with the physical appearence of an instrument.

  • THANKYOU

  • Sounds great!

    nice guitar.

  • nice! great sound! it looks so pretty. you should buy that off him.

  • Sweet Explorer dude!!! Great in the pocket licks!!
