i find it highly innapropriate to compare any other religion to scientology. at the heart of any sincere religion (ideally) is love, and respect for your fellow man. scientology's goals is to extort money from its pratictioners, plain and simple.
@distinct36 I don't see scientology as different from any other religion. they are all dangerous scams that hinder our progress as a species. the only difference is that scientology (and mormonism) are just blatantly scams, whereas the other religions hide it better.
Scientology, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, is all nice and dandy but if you have Tora/Bible/Koran/etc. on your bookshelf they'd better be standing next to Tolkien in the Fantasy Fiction department.
You have to admit the guy is amazing, I mean how many other people that are actually a perpetual liar, a failed sci-fi writer, then a god who believes we all are suffering from alien spirits from volcano's, how many of them leave $650?.
I think the only motto he really believed in is "there is a sucker born every second" and boy did he make the most of them.
The only thing I find amazing about LRH, is that his cult still attracts some of the brightest talent in Hollywood - people like Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie, etc. Cults that distract the mind of the public from the One True God (Jesus Christ) - always grow to gargantuan proportions because Satan is actively engaging in every form of deception possible, on all fronts - to keep people away from the truth! Any idea espousing 'another Messiah' is right from the pit of hell.

Just like the story of Noah which is a blatant rip off of the Epic of Gilgamesh written thousands of years before. The bible is nothing more than plagiarism of other ancient folklore.
