  • So this is how to make the characters move however you want? I have this program at school so I can use it there.

  • you are so pro

  • :'( so sad... my laptop's 32-bit while this requires 64-bits :'(

  • How can i put my face on another body!?

  • @yourmouse1 If you want to do that you will need to use Adobe Premiere.

  • he guys vegas pro 11 is out :D ooh wait :< it doesnt have Roto Brush im downloading after effects

  • Comment removed

  • @PPForya80

Can you do a masking anime tutorial with the normal pen tool in aae?

  • how easy of a program is this for a beginner?

  • @kittensrcute6 not easy at all its very intimidating when you first open it but its fun to play around with it and it will give you amazing results.but there are tons of tutorials on youtube that could help you. so good luck n.n

  • thank you for the vid I am trying to make amv so this will help ^.^

  • Ah, thanks, I just got AE today, and I wanted to figure out how to mask, thank you! xD

  • Can this work in adobe premiere elements 9?

  • For the love of god STOP SNIFFING!!!

  • Tasty skeets? XD Sorry I could not refrain myself :)

  • I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle!!!!

  • WHERE'D YOU GET THE LUCKY STAR SCENE HD??!!

  • u made me feel sick no offense

  • i need help with sound on my anime everytime i out one of my old recent vid for my anime it wont play sound at all -_- help ?

  • how save the masked picture/video so you can open the masked video/picture to a different video editor

  • You are awesome. This will make everything so much easier. ;A; I might actually bother with moving masks now.

I'll stick to regular masking for manga, though. :D

  • so for me is better to mask in after effect and not in vegas 10...i've a wacom tablet...

  • @MasterCharizard

Wacom tablet shouldn't make a difference, it makes the cutting process easier, but with the "roto-brush" you it makes resizing and stabilizing the brush much quicker.

Not to mention in After Effects, the images are continually rasterized and they offer better quality than vegas 10

  • @PPForya80 so, the full process is a lot easier in a.e. than in vegas...rotobrush seems a very usefull function, not perfect but ehi its a huge step up..at least for me that i've to work on multiple miniclips and the process is very tedious to do in vega 10 redirecting every pen point at each frame..even if the same clip is made of 5 frame, well the only problem is if i can export the work made at a.e. in vegas 10 without quality loss but that's another problem. PPForya80, thanks for the answers.

  • @MasterCharizard

That's the thing, you could export from AE so that you lose no quality. Simply use an uncompressed codec and edit between the two programs. For special effects/masks and other effects use After Effects, render your scene and place it in Sony Vegas. If it helps, if I ever use Sony Vegas, I use After Effects to play around with effects. I'll do a specific section with effects in After Effects and then render it and place it back into Sony Vegas.

  • @PPForya80 Yeah, i did think in this way. That's the nly thing i can do for a faster masking. Great help, really.

  • Lucky Star is epic man... YOU AWESOME!!!! *Subscribes and likes*

  • do u need a tissues ??

  • how come when i press ctrl and z at the same time everything closes?

  • @xSelDemix3

well, CTRL + Z is supposed to be a command that removes a previous step done in most editing programs.

Why it closes for you, I'm not sure. Are you using a PC or a Mac?

If you use CTRL + Z it should only bring you back to the last move that was previously done and remove it, CTRL + Shift + Z will take you back. Try setting hotkeys within the preferences in AE so you can get around it.

  • @xSelDemix3

Could it be that you have your keyboard turned into QWERTY while the keys are AZERTY? (or vice versa)

Which means, when you press CTRL+Z, you're actually pressing CTRL+W.

CTRL+W is meant to close a project.

  • @kingtaro oh thansk so much ! that worked ! xD thanks

  • @xSelDemix3

    You're welcome.

  • how can you export the masked clip only?

  • @stefi6666 well what you want to do is when you render your movie, make sure the alpha channels for when you export are checked on. It will be under the export settings where you can set what codec to use.

  • @PPForya80 ok thanks! i'll give it a try this type of masking will save me tons of time for the videos i make xD lol

  • @stefi6666

:) If you need any help, keep me posted.

  • -sigh- If only my computer was compatible with 64 bit...

  • EWW...

  • nice tut

    SNIFF!! :D

  • you can hold Ctrl to change the brushsize

  • @Chopsta123 Mhm. And alt to decrease it.

  • WAH! this looks like exactly what I'm looking for! :D but how much will it cost? I'm having a hard time finding "exactly what I'm looking for" at a price under $1000...

  • @CinnamonWithATwist

This you can get for just a little over $1000 on a stand-alone copy of After Effects CS5. However, I would strongly recommend getting the entire suite and saving up the money for it. They have trials you can try and there are other obscure ways of getting the copy of the program. The best way is to obviously buy it, but if you must get the program, I would get it with the entire suite.

  • @PPForya80 I would assume that the full suite would cost more though right? the main reason I'm looking for a new program is because I want to have a masking tool for amvs. I don't really care about what the other features are as long as it has other features ^_^'' you wouldn't happen to know of any other programs that don't cost as much would you? if not, I guess I'll have to save up for *does math* 50 months... but I can do it! I know I can! >:D

  • @CinnamonWithATwist

    Haha well good luck!

In any case, there are many ways to "mask," for example: the use of Photoshop, or simply using a program like Pinnacle Studio 11 (around $100) or uLead, etc. etc. Those other programs are much cheaper but not as easy to get around as some of the other programs out there.

After Effects by far is the best for general compositing (masking/etc) but for your needs, look into Sony Vegas Pro. It's about $300-500 dollars.

  • @PPForya80 mmm... yes, that's the answer I keep getting... it was the first program I was researching, but it doesn't work on a mac -_-

    but thanks anyways ^_^

  • @CinnamonWithATwist

    Ohhh, you're a Mac user?

Have you tried out Motion 4? It's similar to After Effects only it comes bundled with Particle Illusions and it is a bit harder to play around and get similar effects but it does allow you to create some pretty seamless masking. I made my first live-action video using nothing other than Motion and Final Cut when I first used a Mac.

  • @PPForya80 :D awesome, I'll go search around to find out more about it! double-thanks XD

  • @CinnamonWithATwist yeah but the full works for mac... i know i bought it (actually i got it in as a birthday present)

  • @CinnamonWithATwist you can use wineskin

  • @ShitTalkTV thanks I'll go check that out too ^_^

  • I love cs5!!

  • awesome video just a few things:

i heard you can adjust the size of the brush by holding down control and draggin mouse (its not that important), but i heard that it makes for a better result if you dont play it back and let it try to figure it out, instead of that, go frame by frame for like 5 frames and adjust the mask because it will remember what you adjusted and then it can render the mask out more clearly (i dont know i just saw another tutorial)

  • You got colds men ^_^ but great i discover some new in cs5 tnx dude

  • BLOW YOUR NOSE BEFORE YOU RECORD A VIDEO. I couldn't watch all of this because you sound disgusting.

  • LOL. I was going to go all ninja on you if you didn't mask the finger xD

  • Man, you don't know how many fucking times I've had a scene that would've got better with masking, but just wasn't worth it; this is going to change that.

  • can you combine this and traditional masking easy or would it be ridiculously hard and not worth it

some times the lines look a little scraggly for me and i can't get into the sharp corners very well (always comes out a little rounded)

  • lucky star <33

  • cs5 isnt that amazing lol ill stay with my cs4

  • Wow, this is much simpler and quicker then drawing the masks by hand...It is a nightmare with cs4...

  • @ImTheTeachya

On a mac it should be identical. Once you've loaded the footage, you should be able to drag the file onto your timeline. The timeline for footage and project files is basically that gray area next to the lighter-gray box. If you can't seem to drag it in, it is most likely because you've not created a composition. To do this, go to the "Composition" tab and click it, then scroll to "New Composition" and have it match your footage's properties.

  • I AM SO GOING TO ABUSE THIS !!!

  • Fuck you and your homeless dog.

  • does it work with mac???

  • @macwoman12

Yes, yes it does. This set is both on Windows and Mac platforms.

  • Nice addition for After Effects. But a lot of people wont even be able to upgrade because of the system requirements for this newest version.....

  • @StarRoseAngelic

Well that can be argued. AE CS4 and AE CS5 are virtually the same as far as how much resources are needed from a computer (it is recommended that the PC in use has at the very least, 2 GB of ram from both, but it can work under a minimum of 512 MB just fine). The only requirement is that it is 64-bit capable, and any computer made as of 2005, (AMD, specifically) has had this 64-bit component for a while now.

  • @PPForya80 I also heard that it doesn't work with any Windows other than Vista and 7, is that true? I got my laptop in 2008, and the system type is 32-bit. I'm not that computer savvy, but is there anyway to upgrade it to a 64-bit or is this a hardware related issue?

  • @StarRoseAngelic

No, it should still operate fine with an XP computer (as long as there is a native 64-bit copy of Windows XP installed).

As for the 64-bit question, yes it is hardware related. Before you can upgrade an OS (Windows XP/Vista/7) to a 64-bit copy from a 32-bit copy, you need to have a computer that can allow 64-bit compatibility.

If you got your laptop as of 2008, I'm almost positive it has 64-bit capabilities. Tell me if there's a sticker anywhere that says: AMD x64 or Intel.

  • @PPForya80 The 64 bit doesn't do very much yet.

The half of every adobe Programm still only works in 32 bit....

  • @Lilac354

64-bit actually does quite a bit. Most of the CS5 collection is done and scripted entirely in a completely redefined 64-bit architecture. On top of that, 64-bit allows for much more dynamic ram use; 32-bit is limited at 3 GB. 64-bit at a total of 128 GB of RAM. On top of that certain cards ONLY work with a 64-bit architecture, the cards that are meant specifically with use with After Effects.

  • @StarRoseAngelic I disagree, the only knew requirement is a 64 bit operation system, ram, cpu speed, graphics card. are still exactly the same. If you have a computer that cannot run a 64 bit system then I doubt you will have a good time with AE.

  • @StarRoseAngelic Like me :( lool

  • Blow your nose you snotty bastard

  • Just google for Aries-Films and download over 300 tools for video and audiot editing for PC and MAC.. its like goldmine for videoeditors

  • Nice Video but i think it need more effects.. you can get nice video effects plugins and addons from aries-films file section. Just google for Aries-Films man.. pc

  • where i can get the rotobrush ?

  • @sudarmaja HAHAHAHAHAAHAhaaHAHAHAH good joke

  • you said it was a BETA like 5 times.... in lest then 30 seconds.... i think we get it lol, And what adobe CS5 program are you most looking forward to?

  • @happygamestvfun1

Looking forward to 4 of em, Flash, After Effects, Photoshop and Mocha v2

  • So pete/guy thingy... We hear the guy about to use his atomic sneeze attack around... O.o

What an ass... It comes out in may ;/, that reminda me of the time when i saw a store that had at least 30 in the window, and they said they ddnt have any... Next time i should throw you at them and run... xD

  • you sound pretty sick pete u need some Tylenol? lol

  • very nice feature ;D but where did you get the beta of AE CS5 ;D ?

  • We did it in 5 hours! now watch us do it in 5 minutes<3

...its sad actually i really liked seeing people put some effort into it :/

  • @EternalDefeat

Like I told everyone else who claim effort over masking, MASKING IS A TASK, NOT WHAT MAKES CREATIVITY.

There's no "effort" done when people just mask for the hell of it, what takes 5 hours, takes 5 minutes, and you're able to use your creativity better now because more people can take the time to work on their video instead of 900 hours on the masking.

  • @PPForya80 Clearly you have more experience with the program. <3

  • @dipperf

Not sure if that's sarcasm or being serious, but either way thanks xD

  • @PPForya80 serious, masking is a pain in the ASS

  • Pete, I'm literally falling asleep watching this...Though, it doesn't help that it's 2:30am..I'll watch again in the morning XD

  • @InvisableFlame

    lmfaooo you ass XD

  • Well this new rotobrush feature is amazing . But as soon as it becomes easier to get (For Home consumers who go for the illegal option ) Its going to take the wow out of masking . And put a new perspective of editing . Where the perfection element of a mask will be like a new normal . And blah blah bleh . But still good feature . Can't wait to test it out myself with mah crazeh Malleh ideas .

*Crazy black man straight face* .

  • @Malster3

Masking was never a "wow" just something that allowed users to take creations to a new level. You erase the hours of doing that and focus on your original idea and you'd still have an AMV.

You wouldn't like AMVs like Attack of the Otaku any less if it was all done using this Rotobrush technique, and I'm sure there would be no difference save for many hours of grief.

  • @PPForya80 True there .

But in general its a lifesaver .

  • @FCKyoutrube

LOL or a black guy with a stolen VCR. xD

  • @PPForya80 Hey ! im a black guy With a stolen VCR and Damn stolen some KFC .

  • @FCKyoutrube

My computer can handle it :D Im going to be whoring it till I know how to use it!!! Lol I love it so far :D

  • ooo this is actually pretty hot!

    Go pete!

  • That's awesome o__o

  • Lol @ all the editors

  • bomb.

  • This is a great tool. CS5 seems like a boss

  • Of course I'll have to wait for the full release since the cs4 I downloaded keeps on getting a ghey message on boot-up :/

Did you preorder cs5 or "find" it?

  • pretty badass

takes way less time when just masking each frame by raw

    definitely useful

  • so fucking amazing

  • @FCKyoutrube

Wise words. Mine handles it decently, I had Camtasia open while recording as well as a few background applications. With a pretty decent hi-end computer, there was still just a bit of lag as far as the rendering went.

  • i have adobe after effects cs4

    i need help

    its really weird

  • vegas needs thisss o_o

  • @LaozDavid lol if vegas had that then where is the effort in editing?

that just slacks off the effort

  • I love how it seems like it makes everything easier.

Not really, not at all. You still put around the same amount of work, maybe in a little more less time and sloppier.

  • @SupaKaream

You need to use the tool itself and really see for yourself if it's gonna be worth it. If you've ever done anything outside of anime with real-live footage you understand how certain features like "motion-tracking" or stabilization work inside After Effects. And you understand that there are those colors that sometimes blend with your points that make it hard to get a clean-cut mask. I've tried it with live action and it works much better because anime usually dilates each frame

  • @PPForya80

making it so that, say, something that normally would be happening in every frame ( a small move, that technically would be just an inch of movement in a traditional live-action video spawned across 30 frames, happens in 15 because anime uses much less frames in order to achieve a 30 fps video. So in an anime that is 30 fps or 23, you usually won't see much more than 12 unique frames in those 23-30 frames.

  • @PPForya80 Yeah I've seen some reviews of rotoscope/brush with live action.

Luckily I'm just curious if it's going to be useful to me. Is it any good in masking anime on live action?

  • @SupaKaream

If there was some sort of mix between anime and live-action, uhm perhaps the Kill-Bill special anime cutscene, if you wanted to try and cut someone out of a scene and place it into a LA scene, you would get what any other typical mask would be. Live Action into anime could also be done, of course you'd just have to spend hours tweaking colors and grading your footage.

  • lol No poin of getting the beta release. Just wait for Cs5.

And i Hate the rotobrush. its gonna make everyone lazy.

THANKS FOR SHARING too the whole world |:

  • @SupaKaream

    you're welcome,

and the beta release won't have much difference, save for a few minor upgrades in speed, and of course the rotobrush.

And don't lie, you're gonna love the rotobrush. Everyone CAN mask, and DO mask, but just because they can, doesn't mean that they are creative. All this does s make a gay ass task, fast and easy, but for someone to make a successful video, you need creativity.

  • @PPForya80

Yeah I'm gonna love it as a tool, But im going to hate it on how much its gonna be whored. its gonna change everything.. There was a time where people would appreciate the amount of effort people put into their masking. But now it's gonna be like "bleh, its just rotobrush so what".

    *Deletes Project with intensive masking

  • @SupaKaream

Well, it'll make people realize that effects aren't everything, right? :)

Rotobrush was designed for people who are indie film makers, or people who want to create a quick piece of motion graphic without having to worry about going in and manually cutting out the people frame by frame. It wasn't designed for those that work on amvs as a hobby, so obviously there will be flaws. People who use it would just get a clean-cut mask, how they use it is up to them.

  • @PPForya80 Last thing to do is just what for Cs5 : )

  • @PPForya80 wait*

  • ohdamn, nicesu @_@ if only i wasn't lazy to do stuff in AE >:

  • @Laerium

    but it's soo easyyyy

  • @PPForya80 but i'm so lazyyyy D:

  • @Laerium

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, don't do it, laziness is a gateway drug yo

  • I knew it would work well for anime! The irony is that, in my current project I could really use it - it has a lot of masking. But I won't get CS5 for quite some time now... Anyways, good tut.

  • @AikiNick102

It's a worthwhile investment, that's for sure. When you do get it, if you continue with AMVs, it'll be quite useful.

  • @PPForya80 I won't quit AMVs till the day I die.

  • win o: (Y)

now if only AE loved me... |:

  • @sttailruby12

if only a mudkip loved yew? XD that solves all your problems including pregnancies. Well maybe not the last bit? XD

  • @PPForya80

    LOL

Oiiiiiiiiiii get yer effin mudkip hands off me |:<

  • PETEYYYY <3 It's been a whilez.

I saw videos on CS5 a few days ago, I'm so going to try and get it ._.. It's totally going to ruin the whole "masking" iddea of AMVs though, it won't seem like the editor put much effort into it xD.

    WE MUST TALK SOONZ <3

Btw hope you feel better soon, you sound a bitz ill o: <3

  • @ShinyAppleProduction

thank ye kindle APPLOLOLOLOLOL and yes we must :)

  • @PPForya80 WTFZ WITH YER APPLOLOL <3

  • this is amazing! :O I'd get this just for this function so I wouldn't have to slave away in Vegas anymore XD

btw it sounds like you have a cold :( get better soon! haha

  • @pikashipper4eva

thank yew kindly pika pika xD and yeah that function will be a god send for a lot of amv'ers

  • nyaaa if my compeh didn't hate me/if I wasn't so lazy this would be totally awesomez desu xD

  • @Chiiisus

MAKE SWEET LURV TO YER COMPEE AND THEN BECOME EVEN MOAR LAZIER WITH THE TOOL THAT DOES IT ALL FOR YOU.

Like seriously, it even makes pancakes for you. :)

  • @PPForya80 i dew liek pancakes.... but I dun liek my comp enough to even consider that desu :'D

  • @Chiiisus

yer comp would lurv you though xD

  • @PPForya80 iffff it did it would beee betturrrrrr xD

-stops spamming chur comments nao desu- xD

  • @Chiiisus

spamming ish just tew easy to do XD

  • @Chiiisus

OHELLNAW DID YOU JUST CALL ME A SPAM HOE? xD

  • @PPForya80 .... NUH UH. YEW CALLED CHURSELF ONE.

    -stops-

YEW MAKE NOT SPAMMING HARD. D: SO YESH. MAYBE YOU ARE.

  • WOW!... didnt think it would be possiable

  • @Ethical08

Neither did I, but it sure does PWN xD

  • freakin awsome man wow r u sick lol u sound like ill

  • @NINJAJIN

Yeah man haha, just a little bit sick, but it's cool. I wanted to put out a video, maybe I'll do one later of photoshop.

  • holy shit O_O

  • @MrHollowfication

    Awesome, right? xD

  • @PPForya80

why cant sony vegas do that DX

  • @MrHollowfication

XD well, the thing is that Sony Vegas is meant to be a program that is more known for its ability to provide a simple editing solution; the makers of Sony Vegas expect people who use their product to already have a production team behind them before they use the program (meaning a green-screen kit, multiple cameras, etc etc) it isn't meant for anime, and given that most anime is rendered with both a background and the foreground - characters - you're left to do all the work.

  • I love the easy masking, it makes it way easier ! :D

    TY !

  • @MAGICheartSTAR

Haha no problem. Do you already have CS5?

  • @PPForya80 No, but now i want it even more xD

  • @MAGICheartSTAR

Wait until the full release, you're gonna go crazy. xD I'll be doing one later on Photoshop, that one tool - the "CONTENT AWARE FILL" is amazing.

  • I downloaded CS4 about an hour ago as an upgrade to CS3, but I already want CS5! D:

  • @ArtysticAMV

    !!!!

What I would do is try to learn the features within CS4 over CS3 before jumping on to CS5. I still use CS4 because I have all my plugins and what not loaded onto that version. CS5 on the other hand doesn't have much support for the same ones just yet, and it is a 64-bit only app, so if you are running a 32-bit computer, it won't work at all. :(

  • @PPForya80 Well Im going to wait until at least the full version is up, and transferring plugins/presets etc will take a couple of hours at most so I wont mind ^^

I havent seen much difference between CS3 and CS4 yet though, Im only novice to intermediate level at the program so as long as no major changes have been made I should be fine :3

  • @ArtysticAMV

Well you get a few new plugins over CS4 as far as effects. Under the hood though, you get a much faster rendering system on CS5, not to mention the ability to do a full-preview which means you could render an entire composition and play it back in real time without having to do just sections at a time. You'll know what I mean when you build a very complicated motion graphic or have many layers running on a single comp.

  • o.o

    That is awesome

  • @xDigitalFX

It saves a lot of time, it does. :)
