Davey seems to be in a happier and better state of mind here...later live performances seem lacking in areas. I'm sorry, I just had to say this. Thoughts?
i love that this is a band we can all watch doing live stuff, and actually be able to expect them to sound exactly like they do on the record, and they do it--perfectly.

He's stated in an interview that he's been going to different vocal coaches to learn how to scream/sing in a way that's less damaging to his voice. My guess is that the change in technique is more difficult to nail live, as opposed to just screaming and singing however he wants, such as in this video.

Go listen to "Days of the Phoenix" in this same show. Go listen to the Art of Drowning version and tell me its lipsynced. AFI are one of the best live bands ever. They dont need to lip-sync

It's not live... they must have pre-recorded the track. Look at 1:35, Dave takes the mic away from his mouth way before the note has finished. Seriously, there's no debate. Look at other live videos of this song, none of them are anywhere near the quality of this performance. Some of the vox are auto-tuned too. There is also a second guitar track playing during the lead part in the intro.
@biscuits3331 I decided to check what you were saying about the mic with my own sounds gear. i have pretty high quallity sound gear for a bigginer but nothing like what AFI would have considering their sound gear would come to about a total of $400,000 or so and mine is worth $3500. but the point is with one of my mics (its worth about $100) i could have it sitting in my lap and still picking up what i was singing and davey would be a much louder singer then me and his mic would be much better.
@MrJoeBH - yes, a mic several feet away can still pick up the voice. Now try singing right into it, then taking it away. Notice the difference? I appreciate the fact that you own some audio gear, but I've been playing in bands, recording/producing bands, and doing live sound for 15 years... trust me, as soon as he takes it away from his mouth in that situation, you'd stop hearing it.

Different techniques for different singers go different ways, and experienced singers know where to put the mic for certain ways of singing. Example: When Brent sings with a LOT of power, by the shape of his mouth, the sound goes almost straight down.
As for the guitar overdubs? There aren't any. Hunter has a slightly fuzzy tone in that part, and Jade is just playing the lead guitar on top of it. No overdubs.
@biscuits3331 did i say i was a new to the industry? no i said i used cheapish gear i have been a audio tech for a very long time 20 or so years. and using my cheap gear (with backiing tracks) also as you take the mic away you increase the volume level so it picks up more i dont know about you as a audio tech but i generally run my lines at about quarter of full volume for the lead vocalist as most tend to do stupid shit with mics.
i dont believe it was lip synced... but the way jade doesnt play... and then its still making strumming noises.... 0:49 for example... actually watching this again.. it does seem like he is lip syncing.. actually i dunno :(

concert selling out & cd sales dnt mean a great band.
the jonas brothers sell lots of records but suck. so thats not a good reason to THINK you've been to better concerts than me. i was at the black sails release show in 99. there is no better concert than that.
if you are going to use album sales and stadiums selling out then i have you beaten anyways. METALLICA. their black album alone (not their best just the highest selling) sold more than any of those bands you named put together. i win
