Anyone who can't figure out that the world's pop. has nearly doubled since The Beatles were at their singles sales peak, and that this is a major reason why new artists can outsell them is, a) probably not that interested in the Beatles, because b) they're young and stupid.
High record sales are an indicator of good music, in one respect - music is supposed to be accessible to all and indicative of the zeitgeist. It should also be challenging and intellectual. It's seldom both. I like both.
I hate to break it to you: the people that you call stupid - and I suspect you mean anyone under 115 IQ, which is 80+% of pop. - are the majority, and as such they are necessarily the target market for music companies.
Go check out M Doughty for someone that has moved outside of the music mogul business model (which was rubbish even when The Beatles were around), and is making a living from self-releasing.
I normally like your stuff, but some of the generalisations here are quite wrong, or at least are presenting what can only be opinion as though it were fact, which is unusually careless. I was, and somewhat am, a DJ (who used to do weddings). I was also a database admin/IT manager, as such, tech savvy.
Sharers no longer need to be tech-savvy, haven't for a while.
Lady Gaga has more musical talent than a great many of her contemporaries - she just happens to also be very good at self-promotion.
@COEXISTential Wrong way round. She is very good at self-promotion. She just happens to have more musical talent than a great many of her contemporaries, because her contemporaries are thugs and mannequins without a musical motor protein between them. If you can rise to the top of a bucket of scum, that only proves that you're the greasiest thing in there.
@DoctorRandomercam How can it be the wrong way around? There are plenty of musically talented people who are both not good at self-promotion and not famous, just as there are plenty of people who are good at self-promotion but have nothing to promote. And then there are record labels who promote regardless of talent, but focus on marketability, which may or may not include talent.
Rising to the top may make her the greasiest thing in there, or it may make her a detergent bubble.
I was planning to be all anonymous and stuff, but err.. I donated to your paypal account, following agreeing with your sentiments at the end of the video, which I found by looking in my paypal history for when I last did so. Turns out it was 2 years ago and seeing you had a hotmail address made me realise 'I don't know anyone that uses hotmail for their e-mail anymore, it's possible he has a new account and will miss it!' So err, just saying this in case my paranoia is justified! damn char limi-

@Happy0 Thanks again. I have several email addresses but my hotmail is the only one I keep tidy. Because it doesn't know how to tidy itself.
