Gold can and has usually been confiscated. Silver is more practical and has never been confiscated. Silver has also more industrial uses.

@edewit08 Not enough Americans own gold to make it worth a confiscation. Plus there is not enough gold in the world to cover the dollar! Ask youself who do you know that owns even 1 oz of gold or silver? They are more likely to tax the sell of gold/silver than to take it from you directly.

The rich loose their "monopoly money" and the normal people dont have anything in the banks. Atleast here in Europe the "pension funds" are used already.. So what to do? Could we just stop playing monopoly? and start living?

If you are interested in investing in gold/silver, you MUST read guide to investing in gold and silver by Mike Maloney. Time is running out to get in at these low prices. Dreg138... in some degree you are correct, but keep in mind gold/silver's purchasing power. Don't think so much in terms of dollars here. This is an incredible oportunity folks, and yes you will make a bunch of Currency. Gold/silver is money.

Gold is always valuable, but the value of gold has never changed, only the price. The increase in the price of gold is a direct reflection of the devaluation of the dollar , and other currencies. Don't buy gold expecting to make a bunch of money, buy it incase we end up in a Roadwarrior scenario.
