The Truth is though they are much better off and there economies are much stronger and quality of life has improved since the fall of the USSR.

Countries like Belarus and Ukraine are the only former USSR countries that could be better off under the USSR anyway and probaly want to. Other countries Like i mentioned before are better off without the USSR and the population never really want to be part of the USSR, they were basically held at gun point.

By the way I m not taking the US side, the US can be at times alot worse then Russia.

@S1lent2011 territorial borders are many and so are disputes. My point is that Russia will eventually rebuild the old russian empire whether the world likes it or not. The 08' georgian allowed russia to show the world the true value of U.S guarantees. Not only that but Russia also has much influence in the new defacto ruler of europe, Germany. Territory changes though have been slow though in 20th after ww2, before ww2 it happened almost all the time, nuclear weapons though have sort of slowed it down and stopped it altogether. Also some countries like estonia probaly never will being in NATO now, a nuclear war isn't worth it over a small piece of land, georgia proper will probaly stay independant forever, the only other region it could lose is adjara , as the people would never want to join, at worst it will probaly get its

Government change by force like what happened in Iraq and then everything will be fine again. Besides Russia and Europe would be fine with the territorial arangements right now, the war aspect is there only really because of America and everyone knows this.

Russian president Mevedev ( yeah I know I spelled it wrong) added a new security proposal in Europe and it would guarantee territorial intergrity of all borders right now, but I doubt if anyone will accept it even though its good.

What is worrying is any confrontation between NATO and Russia could go nuclear very easily. 1985 Russia was ready for nuclear war, some nukes were only minutes away from launching on the basis of that NATO military exercise.

@S1lent2011 NATO seems stable but is not. Old NATO was held together by threat of 50 russian tank divisions in east germany. New nato is split between several interests. U.S = NATO is arm of u.s supremacy. Eastern Europe = Keeping Russia contained and West Europe = staying out of other peoples business. Also Soviet Union had a no first use policy of nuclear weapons. They had a saying called 6 days to the Rhine. NATO may not end soon, but its unity is long gone.
