If you use sand, use a watered down elmers glue carefully applied (not too thick, not too much).
I Think He´s using solvent based glue, like the ones we built our kits, I have tried that same technique and It works! I have the same Zaku I in progress, allthough It´ll be in desert colors

its a modeling putty dissolved in a thinner, or you can either use a surface primer (around 500 grade) dry brushed.

2:52 its a tamiya cement Extra-thin... it is a glue and it melts plastic too... so you can sand it and make it look like its one!

Becasue first he painted it by hand for the detailes and then he airbrushed it for more effect in the model

Wow. This guy got the poor end of the stick, a Zaku I MG, one of the suckiest MG's. Still, he did a good job with it.
