  • I think this movie is the closest any movie has ever gotten to perfection. If it isn't already sheer perfection. What makes a movie good is how well it delivers to its target audience and how large that audience is. This was the movie that appealed to everyone with the thought capacity to handle dialogue-based pictures. Anyone who says this movie is boring should probably just watch a colored-light show on their computer, because that's apparently what they go to theaters to see anyway.

  • sorry and this is my opinion this movie is overrated : (

  • TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN IS MUCH BETTER THAN THIS MOVIE. haha! Just kidding. Citizen Kane should be the basis where all other movies are measured. Just a masterpiece that once you've seen it, you will want to see it again and again.

  • This is one of Orson Welles' most highly acclaimed movies in his career.

  • best movie evr made no other movie could top it

  • They should have a remake of citizen kane and Maltese Falcon had a movie called 2050 that would have been really futuristic, worst economy since the depression need a new deal and a new president actually never should have stepped foot in office guy who's in there now

  • @rhersh2011 NO. This film should NEVER get a remake, it's perfect as it is. Leave it alone, it doesn't deserve getting pissed on by modern hollywood executive.

  • its only #1 cause it was the first to do the shit it did if it was released today it wouldnt even be on the list...

  • @Dankniggah420 But because of that movie... today wouldn't be so good if the one was never made.. old movies are what they teach in film classes, so one can learn where all the camera angle, movements, mise-en-escene, acting, sound etc etc was used and still use today. ^_^ but that is just me and my opinion. Most movies of today are mostlyr emakes.

  • @Dankniggah420 Sorry, not true. Try watching the movie first.

  • @ShadowACS

sry true... and yes ive seen it many times so try makin a better smart ass comment

  • @Dankniggah420 better a smart ass than a dumb ass.

  • @ShadowACS

    you mad bro?

  • I think Gone with the Wind and Casablanca are overrated. The acting in GWTW is superb,Vivien Leigh and Clarke Gable nail every scene they are in,and let´s not forget Olivia deHaviland, she is brilliant. The problem I think,is the slow pace and the boring storyline.Things get´s dragged out for what seem an eternity, and movies of that time frame is usually moving rather quickly.I,personaly don´t find Scarletts quest for love to be that interesting to be honest.

  • @hcronos A great man once said: "don't criticize what you can't understand". Obviously you are too simpleminded to understand the masterpiece that this movie is. Go watch your donkey porn, at least then you can watch a film featuring your own kind.

  • This movie is so overrated. Gayest movie ever made. It suuuuucckk. I rather watch donkey porn

  • burrowshredss, I don't care if you like it or not or if you agree or disagree. It is my opinion that James Cameron actually found the ingenious techniques that made Kane so absorbing for sooo many years... and still is. In fact, one reviewer came out of Titanic, raving about how he hadn't thought about a movie that much since Citizen Kane.

I'm not alone. But, you have your opinion and I have mine, burrowshreds

  • In a little under 2 hours, I got to know one man better and learn more from his experiences, his ambitions, and his shortcomings than I have in A. another film and B. anyone I know. This is a genuine milestone in cinema. This is a great motion picture.

  • 10 people OBVIOUSLY don't remember 'Rose Bud' !!

  • @Wiseguyzmoney Just because you adore something does not mean that when ever you view or engange in it, you are eager and excited throughout the whole movie. The reason I adore this film is BECAUSE of its slow pace and complexity. That is the reason this film is a masterpiece because it was the first one to propel those qualities to their boiling point. And I did not have to endure this movie or these qualities, if you have to ENDURE something I would assume you did not like it.

  • HUGE SPOILER ALERT!

  • YO---its NOT ABOUT SaTISFYING the audience. A masterpiece is a work where one thing can not be changed, edited out, or altered (LIKE USING a different shot of the same thing)in any way without upsetting the whole. This defintion holds no matter what the form of the art is (Dance, painting, etc) If you can't see that in KANE, then you need to become more educated...

  • YO---its NOT ABOUT SaTISFYING the audience. • @gettavid Wait, I remember now! You said "There are lots of good old films, not just the classics" after mentioning how you liked those films. So, don't those films count as classics?

  • @gettavid Doesn't 12 Angry Men, Casablanca, DtESS and Ben-Hur all count as "classics" though?

  • THIS IS ACTUALLY THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL HUMAN EXISTANCE?????? WHAT A LOD OF BULLSHHHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!...I'M SORRY BUT THE GODFATHER HAS TO BE THE NUMBER ONE. Period!

  • @gettavid I'm actually with you on that Gone with the wind IS overrated. The second half felt rushed even though it was a near 4 hour movie. HOWEVER, I'm sorry but Casablanca was just not that great. It was still good just not THAT good. It was still quite boring and somehow Gone with the Wind was more exciting even though it was more than twice as long. It's cool that you have a difference of opinion but it's not like your opinion will change mine. BTW i've never seen 12 angry men or Ben hur

  • @09tranm I must disagree with you when you say that Gone With the Wind is overrated. Vivien Leigh's performance might be one of the greatest performances by an actress in cinematic history. I thought it was campy and over acted when I was younger. But I just watched it again the other day and was blown away. Now that I'm older I appreciate it so much more. Have u seen it recently? You should go back and watch it again.

  • @JesMarie0087 Um I didn't see Gone with the Wind when I was younger in fact I just saw it recently. It's a very very good movie. Like I said I didn't think Vivien Leigh's performance wasn't the weak part. I thought that the second half was a bit rushed since people kept dying left and right. They also didn't bother showing Rhett & Scarletts wedding. However, the ending was just perfect. It was the ultimate rejection.

  • This is not the best movie of all time(in my opinion) but when I saw it I was not disappointed at all. This film truly is an amazing masterpiece. It has a very interesting plot and a great character Charles Kane. You know I was really disappointed when I saw Casablanca that movie was a total chick flick but this just takes it to the next level. It's definately better than Casablanca. However, I enjoyed The godfather more than this movie but meh whatever.

  • @09tranm I like Kane better than Casablanca too, but Casablanca is far, far, far from a "chick-flick". Heck, the ending is almost anti-chick-flick!

  • @FetaCheese222 I'm sorry but I honestly think that Casablanca is wayyyy overrated but that's just me. I mean a good romance story that's better than Casablanca is Gone with the Wind. It seemed as if Casablanca was more boring than Gone with the wind but it was only about an hour and a half as for Gone with the Wind it was nearly 4 hours and much more interesting. Although, Gone with the wind does have its flaws it's more exciting than Casablanca.

  • One of the all-time greats.

Shame how much controversy it has caused in the comments.

Possibly the most important movie ever made though.

Though best ever made, and most flawless ever made, are two different things IMO. My personal favourite of all time is Reservoir Dogs, but the movie that I feel is flawless is The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

  • I would place Godfather II above Godfather i. That movie weaved two separate plots together unlike anything I had ever seen. And for it to be a sequel is just incredible. To me, Citizen Kane is academically and technically perfect. Every scene, every word, every emotion, every camera angle, every lighting position, convey a thought or message. I disagree that it is a big movie. They took very little and made it appear larger than life through creative and dramatic camera positioning.

  • Overrated

  • @Samonuh 2 Great movies(according to AFI & critics) I think are truly overrated are Casablanca and 2001 A Space Odyssey. This movie overrated yes in the sense that it's not the best ever. It isn't but it still is a great film that I was not disappointed with at all. I really liked it.However, Casablanca was a total chick flick. It was probably the original chick flick I liked it but still not great just goodokay. 2001 omg that movie I just totally disliked I really wanted to like it though

  • @09tranm nah those to movies deserve the praise they got, respond if you want to know why

  • @rockinjoker07 It's all a matter of taste. If you liked those movies that's totally cool with me. All I know is I didn't enjoy them that much. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. On a side note I also think Tarantino is overrated. However, if you like them that's totally cool with me.

  • He single handedly invented the modern movie with this film.

  • There's no such thing as a perfect movie. No matter how "GREAT" a movie is, its absolutely impossible for a film to satisfy 100% of it viewers. I think 90% if its lucky. When it comes to film there is no correct opinion.

I'm one of the few who didn't respond to Kane. But I acknowledge it achievments and respect those who did enjoy it.

  • @paintballing489 A perfect movie doesn't need to satisfy 100% of viewers or be popular. There are many perfect movies around us yet many people unfortunately never heard of them and yeah, perfection in movies exists. A fact.

  • @makilovi66 There are NO perfect movies. Thats a FACT. Who's to say what is a perfect movie??? What make your opinion of a perfect movie right and someone elses opinion wrong. You cant have a WRONG opinion, everyones opinion counts.

A perfect movie means it would have no flaws, and if it has no flaws everybody would love it. But there are people who dont like citizen kane. So its obviously not a perfect movie, and there will never be a perfect movie.

  • @paintballing489 Well gee, thanks for your grudging acknowledgement that the rest of us peasants might know something about cinema. Good luck getting your head through many doorways.

  • @dougalmac54 Wasn't trying to be patronising mate. I was just trying to say everyones entitled to their opinion.

  • Magnificent film, I wish I could have met Orson Welles, but no one ever mentions Everett Sloane and his heart breaking recolletion of a girl he saw for just a moment on a ferry. Am I alone with those kinds of memories?

  • There is one greater movie than this: Seven Samurai.

There are no greater AMERICAN movies than this. That I have seen.

  • Not my type of movie but Orson Welles was a genius

  • fuck citizen kane theres a lot better movies and it didnt even win best picture

  • @ElCapatainAndJT It didn't win Best Picture because it was based off a real person, and that person got offended then bribed the oscars not to give it the award. It was still nominated.

  • @ElCapatainAndJT Say one better movie! Say one! I dare you, I double dare you, motherfucker!

  • @ElCapatainAndJT There are more to movies than just winning Oscars.

  • @ElCapatainAndJT Oscars don't mean shit anymore. Nowadays a lot of movies are only judged by their performance at the box office rather than by pure quality.

And I dare you to name 3 better films. That way I can be permitted to laugh at you on how little you know about real filmaking.

  • fuck citizen kane theres a lot better movies

  • I can just see the remake for this now "I'm Charles Foster Kane, B-Ieetch!"

  • perfect story, perfect script, perfect casting, perfect direction, perfect movie.

  • Peter Bogdanovich is always a pleasure to listen to

  • The people that say Kane is boring & isn't and attention grabber is obviously jaded and brainwashed by the modern cinema. You have to appreciate the dialogue because that is the most important factor in my book. If you took away the CGI of Avatar, it's just another war hero movie with substandard acting with a shallow amount of emotion. How you come people can read a classic novel in pure silence but can't watch a movie that has the same amount of imagination and innovation as that book?

  • @IgnorancEnArrogance I soo agree with your last statement .

  • @IgnorancEnArrogance they cant even sit down and be silent to read since they need action over action.

  • Comment removed

  • @IgnorancEnArrogance I think both sides are wrong. People that say this movie is boring don't have patience and don't appreciate the more subtle qualities of this film. While people who adore this film undermine the slow pace and complexity that you have to endure throughout this film.

  • @IgnorancEnArrogance

Well, to be honest, great modern cinema... like James Cameron films are actually so structurally perfect to make the audience feel like they're apart of everything that... it rivals Kane in terms of sheer brilliance in technique.

The editor of Kane, Robert Wise actually saluted James Cameron after Titanic as being one of the top best people in the business.

  • @LukeLovesRose And do you honestly think Avatar has a chance of rivaling Citizen Kane? Kane was innovative in not just visual effects, but pretty much every aspect of filmmaking. Avatar was only innovative for its effects. And the early James Cameron films topple Titanic and Avatar. Terminator 1 & 2 are fucking awesome, still haven't seen Aliens though. Spielberg > Cameron.

  • @LukeLovesRose I agree, quite honestly as well. But, I was only talking about the dialouge and plot, which is where I believe avatar falls short. Though I was completely baffled by the imagination of the film, which is one of the key requisists for a masterpiece; and I was sucked into the world that my eyes were beheld, I was not sucked into the characters nor their actual plight. I was entitling to those who thought Avatar was greater and beyond all films simply because of its visual beauty.

  • @IgnorancEnArrogance dude the main problem is that in 1941 the standards where alot lower, the standards have only raised as time has gone on, now I havnt watched this movie yet so I cant comment on whether or not its good but if you look on any movie site all the top rated movies are mostly old ones becasue the standards back then here way lower

  • @MrMasticater It's actually the opposite. Orson Welles almost never made this movie because everyone though he was an incompitent film maker and just insane at times. The standards have droped signifigantly. The only popular comedy today consists of shock value and gross out gags. The highest grossing adventure and action films depend on computer graphics, thin plotlines, and uninspired dialouge. Though there are still wonderful movies out there, the standards are so low most people don't care.

  • @IgnorancEnArrogance that is untrue, yes many movies made recently are shit, but they get shit rating those slap stick comedies get bad ratings too, the standards of a good movie is loads higher but that doesnt mean that they dont make bad movies anymore it jsut means that its harder to make a bad movie and due to recent technology its piss easy to make a movie

  • @MrMasticater Harder to make a bad movie? The ratio of bad:good movies is overwhelming. Our standards are not higher than the past, their just different. All of the present movies are about action & adventure. The films trying to tell a profound, consistent story and spread a rational message are very scarce and most of them never fall in the mainstream media's hands. The movies aren't getting better, the audience is just getting dumber. People only go to the movies now to be entertained........

  • @IgnorancEnArrogance isn't that the point of movies,though?

  • @IgnorancEnArrogance to be entertained?

  • @xmass65ify Yes. To be entertained in a degenerate way. To be entertained in a way that shuts down the brain so that it is only susceptable to violence and arbitrary filth.

  • I knew a lot of people would say that Citizen Kane is boring or overrated. You really have to consider when it was made and the level of influence it has had on cinema. If you understand that then you understand that Citizen Kane had a significant impact on every other film after it.

  • It was groundbreaking.....Just as Jimi was to a guitar.....It created new filming methods....acting methods and a great story......Orsen was what 21 when he made it??? In my mind the most important film has to also be the greatest .........

  • I hate this movie so much. For god sakes, I had to watch the entire movie late at night, just to realize, IT IS A SLED. >=(

  • @HunterM28025 Please consider suicide. Citizen Kane isn't a film that's supposed to keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what the hell Rosebud is.

  • If they do another one of these Lists, Dark Knight is virtually guaranteed to be on it.

  • @KingGopherNuts

    STFU

    TDK Sucks ass.

  • @Skeletonwitharaygun tell that to every major movie critic in Hollywood, not me.

  • I still haven't gotten Citizen Kane and why it's so good. Yes, it was good with its cinematography back then but overall it's a sleeper. I mean it's so dull and slow without one little attention grabber. I'm a film student and I've had to watch this 4-5 times and I couldn't stay awake through any of those showings.

  • @Erik393 Choose another career because you don't belong anywhere near film if you can't appreciate this masterpiece. I've seen it 15 times and loved it every time. Yeah go watch Michael Bay shit idiot.

  • @Chris25698 I can appreciate a good movie and its fine qualities. But it also has to keep me awake. But this coming from a guy that has the most retarded videos on his favorites. Go back to watching Sound of Music for the 15th time also.

  • The Greatest Movie of All Time ... Citizen Kane is truly a masterpiece, Hollywood classic. "Rosebud" is an icon ... power and wealth without happiness is like a dead man walking.

  • @machiavelli1st

Except this movie is not considered a classic, due to its very cult fanbase and influence.

  • "I think it would be fun to run a newspaper?!?" hahahaha i love quoting this movie

  • citizen kane IF YOU ASK ME sucked. ---mat eliscu being naughty--IS A BETTER CLIP GO CHECK IT OUT .

  • i have asked several people what they think the best movie ever is but no one ever said citizen Kane. a few of the answers i got were enter the dragon twin warriors skeleton key spirited away TMNT star wars episode 5 golden eye moon raker tropic thunder italian job Wayne's world trading places and lion king. does anyone agree with these?

  • I saw the movie and was disappointed. I lost two hours of my time. Boring movie and overrated.

  • Excelente pelicula!

  • This movie bridged the era of silent films and radio into our modern age of movies. It took special effects (yes there are actually tons of them), lighting, camera angle, sound, visual story telling and matured those arts to such a degree that it has shaped the movie industry to this day!

  • I do like Citizen Kane, it is a masterpiece, but Gone with the Wind and Casablanca to me are higher and better.

  • @toplaycool19 im agree with u GWTW and casblanca is out of this worls and im happy i bought both movies 4 me godfather deserve be in the 3 first places

  • It was his sled! alright?! HIS SLED!!

  • I sing about Citizen Kane, Welles, and other actors in The Celebrity Song.

  • I love him.

  • I dunno; I still think The Godfather is pretty good.

  • Great movie. the shots are incredible throughout.

(I did foresee the ending but that does not detract in the least)

  • Not to be discreet, but Citizen Kane was a piece of shit. No, I have never watched the movie.

  • @mmm4466 How can you hate a movie you've never seen?

  • @lilmissfab96 Because it's old. Old movies suck. Ok Im joking, but seriously the movie looks really bad.

  • @mmm4466 No =( old movies arent bad... i agree the trailer isnt the greatest but its a really great movie if youre into oscar winning movies and stuff like that or you want to watch a movie with quailty it amazing believe me

  • Comment removed

  • @shadowclaw46 Ok, technically I wasn't being serious so just chill out. Maybe you'd like to tell me exactly how it "redefined" film making?

  • @mmm4466 I did kind of go to far, sorry about that. Allow me to explain how it redifined fimmaking. Orson Wells not only stared in this movie, but he also wrote, directed, and produced it. There aren't to many people who can do that. The only other director that I know of that did this is Ed Wood.

  • @shadowclaw46 (cont) He made a movie called "Glen or Glenda?" and he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in it just like Orson Wells did in "Citizen Kane". "Glen or Glenda?" ended up being one of the worst films of all time and Ed Wood was eventually named the worst director of all time. I could tell you more about Ed Wood but you wanted to know about "Citizen Kane" so if you want to know more about Ed Wood watch the Tim Burton film "Ed Wood".

  • @shadowclaw46 (Cont.) Anyway, Ed Wood's story is proof that it takes true talent to pull of a movie like "Citizen Kane" the way that Orson Wells did. Another thing that was ground breaking about "Citizen Kane" was the cenimatography. It's absoulty brilliant. If you compare "Citizen Kane" to other movies that were going around at the time, then you'll realize how diffrent it was from the others. It was so advanced for it's time and that's how it redefined filmmaking.

  • @mmm4466 Have you watched some of the older movies? Some of them are brilliant.

  • @jediapprentice6700 I've never been much for plot though. I prefer movies with good special effects :P

  • So like

What is so great about this other than the nurse is a teleparth that caught his dying word "Rosebud"?

I mean he's clearly alone and stuff when he says it, then he dies, then the mutant comes in and is like omg he's dead you know?

I guess if I was the film that launched the X-Men franchise I'd be a classic too.

  • Citizen Kane is the best movie ever made.

  • Rosebud.

  • I know I'm gonna get thumbed down and bashed for saying this but when I watched this movie I was bored out of my mind. Its like watching paint dry. I don't see why this is the greatest movie of all time. Same thing for Casablanca. Should be Casaboring.

  • @TheDeadLegacy Then maybe you should giv them another try. Those are not movies that you're gonna like at the first or second time you see them. They kind of grow into you 'as time goes by' (sorry just had to). They're really good movies and I think you'll find that too. But you're entitled to your opinion anyway.

  • Boring, pretentious dreck, in my not so humble opinion. I'd rather watch Jackass.

To the fans of this awful film, keep pretending to see things that aren't there, keep reaching for the stars and keep thinking you're not a pseudo-intellectual.

  • @TheRealChadMustang Being this stupid requires balls. You have balls man, you have balls.

  • personally citizen kane isnt my #1 favorite all time movie (its definately top 5) but i can completely understand why its given the title of the best film ever made.

  • I love this movie so much I could watch it repeatedly. I can't call it the greatest movie of all time because there are other movies I like better, but I have no trouble calling it one of the greatest movies ever made. Welles treated the film like a combination of a stage and radio play, and used the camera to elevate it further. THAT is the right way to treat a movie. Not an inch of the movie was done without thinking, everyone is absorbed in their roles, and it constantly grips you.

  • Especially if it is a movie that some people care for or even like. There is no such thing as the greatest movie ever made.

  • Yeah, you can list the best 100 movies, but after that you can't order it.

  • So to dissect a reason why a movie like CITIZEN KANE is better than, say, GRAND ILLUSION, or 8 1/2 than LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, or RAGING BULL than PULP FICTION is useless because none of these movies are like each other aesthetically, emotionally and intellectually. Like Roger Ebert said, it is pointless to make a Top Ten list, let alone a Top 100, and then put down other movies to elevate the status of one.

  • Citizen Kane laid the foundation for what we all cinema today. It's the most important American film ever made.

You see, AFI doesn't mean "greatest" as in being better than all other films, they mean that it's "great" in its impact and innovation. They looked at cultural significance and historical value of films, not whether or not they were "better."

I was pretty bored while watching Citizen Kane, but I understood the movie's value.

  • @HelenKellersArmy Exactly, as far as boring, it is a very slow paced film, but it was wonderfully written and acted at the same time, it was a breakthrough film, it layed the ground for the basis of films as we know them.

  • @Bash316 other than to make you WANT to watch them.

  • Comment removed

  • Wheres goodfellas?

  • IT WAS HIS SLED

  • "Yeah, I just saved you two boobless hours."

    -Peter Griffith, FAMILY GUY.

  • No one heard him say "rosebud." The nurse came in after he dropped the globe. Am I missing something?

  • i think the reason Citzen Kane is praised so much besides the kickass camera techniques is the story (which seems chicle now) but was unique back then.....

  • i think the godfather is the greatest movie ever made.

  • really? best movie ever? i doubt this is better the godfather

  • the best movie ever is always a matter of opinion

  • freddy got fingered is the greatest movie of all time, way better than citizen lame

  • @ilovefrankandbeans obvious troll is obvious

  • @ilovefrankandbeans I second Freddy Got Fingered as greatest movie. Tom Green is a comical genius. yes!!!

  • if there is one film that deserves best movie ever it this one surely. Saying The Godfather is better isn't wrong in any way of course but this changed nearly everything for movies. Every picture after it was influenced by it and every shot could win an art contest. I can't see a film topping Citizen Kane.

  • @aerosmith760

    God, Shut UP.

  • Even judging on cinematography alone, how can this movie be better than Clockwork Orange or any other Kubrick movie, for that matter?!?

  • Clockwork Orange was a self-indulgent, incomprehensible mess. Kubrick was a visionary for sure, but lets not pretend that his vision was always worthwhile.

  • @nastyasav because it has a much better script movies are not merely about visuals it's a cooperative art form for a good movie everything has to be good: music sets acting dialogues lighting story etc. Clockwork Orange is a mess. 2001 is the only Kubrick movie that could compete with Kane

  • nastyasav, your comparison is well-taken in the sense that you've rightly identified to two American film makers who really deserve the title "artist," Kubrick and Welles. The intellectual, cinematic and creative boldness and complexity of their work is unmatched by any other. It's not possible to say who's greater, of course; together they are a pantheon of two. Both deserve to be honored (not pitted against each other).

  • I've been watching many great movies, almost all of 100 bests from AFI list and I've arrived in a conclusion: the greatest movies like this one or Eight and a half from Federico Fellini etc, are evaluated in an academic perspective from directors or critics and to other peoples including me they just don't fit well. Probably it's difficult to perceive them is such perspective.

  • It's only when you watch many movies you realize how movies like Citizen Kane, 8 1/2, The Godfather, and Vertigo are the epitome of greatness in movie making.

  • @swordpunisher : You said in a few lines what most people will never understand.

  • @swordpunisher

LOL. I've seen a LOT of films. I love movies. But, 8 1/2 has not inspired film like Kane or The Godfather or Gone With The Wind for that matter. I hate this elitist love of 8 1/2.

  • @LukeLovesRose

Agreed. Citizen Kane and The Godfather have had a vast influence over cinema and have been in parody's from just about every television show. 8 1/2 doesn't come close to the homages Citizen Kane and The Godfather have inspired.

  • @LukeLovesRose

I didn't know that you can be called an elitist for art appreciation.

  • @swordpunisher

No, I mean, "elitist" to those who trash other peoples' opinions, because they think they're superior. That's "elitist" and I don't mean to come off elitist by condemning elitism. But, the 8 1/2 fans piss me off.

  • To say that Citizen Kane is the Greatest movie ever is like saying its the Greatest story ever told EVER. It doesn't make since because every person has a different vision and a different opinion. But to say one movie is the best out of Billions of movies made throughout the beginning of Cinema is just nonsense. Its an opinion not a fact, thats why I don't see why they made up this list in the first place. There is no reason to come up with a list that not everyone will agree with.

  • Really? There's no reason for a group of people to express their opinion if other people in other groups will disagree? That kinda makes all speech worthless, no?

  • then how do Beatles say Beatles are greatest band ever? This film has been reviewed by many people and has been seen all over the world. It is the one of the greatest American films ever made.

  • Thats what I was saying. Its ONE OF the greatest films ever made but not THE Greatest film ever made. Yes it may be a good movie but there are different genres that have all different meanings to them. All I'm saying is for it to be the greatest movie ever, it has to be perfect in every way, in every category thats flawless. I think they should just call it one of the most widely recognized classic films of all time.

  • i agree, people have their opinions, nothing can be greatest of all time, in terms of how people like it. but this movie did set the gold standard. and in my eyes it took a while to see why this film has been labeled the greatest American film ever. but i dont disagree with you though.

  • @goodfella21f Beatles are the most overrated band ever. Mad homo gay too. Haha!

  • @Diachi26 i hate it when faggots like you talk about all this opinion shit. People can make these lists and the reason why they do it is for people to debate over it.

  • Hey no need for name calling. I'm just exspressing my opinion. That doesn't mean it will change anything. I won't start a stupid arguement with you over youtube. Even if you win you still look retarded. So there is no point.

  • This movie is structured so amazingly! I love how "rosebud" becomes that elusive point that draws the audience to investigate the life of Charles Foster Kane. I have seen few movies that allows for such depth in character analysis.

  • So fucking awesome.

  • Yeah ok really I think someone has hit you all over the head with something heavy. To anyone whowants to watch this film that is 3hrs plus long its a sled the thing he plays with at the beggining what a waste of time. Granted the man put alot of things in the frames and loads of mise on sene but really the film is about as intersting as my ass

  • @Ceejemoose88 it's actually like only 2 hours.

  • @TimofAwsome

the ending is sad. Why Casablanca is 3rd and Godfather is second.

  • Thank i thought i was the only one, i mean that movie was adecuate, but better than for example THE GODFATHER of course not.

Gone with the wind was much better, casablanca was better, forest gump was MUCH BETTER.

  • Citizen Kane took the art of filmmaking to a whole new level... it redefined filmmaking there's no doubt about it. But is it really better than The Godfather? Godfather came in 2nd on the AFI best 100 films of all time list. If I had to vote I don't know which one I'd choose.

  • Yes it is better. Just watch it again and say to yourself: "This was filmed in 1940/41". Amazing!

You can pause Citizen Kane at almost any point in the movie and get a poster out of it. THAT'S quite a feat. Orson Welles performance is astounding and captivates you. Best film of all time? Depends on your definition. But I will say that it is pretty damn close.

  • this movie PREDICTED MJ's life long before he was born!

    genius stuff!

  • Oh shit I never made that connection....it's so true....except instead of priceless greek sculpture it was ferris wheels and merry-go-rounds.

  • The scene where they take over the newspaper is absolutely cringeworthy.... Very good film, yes. Best movie ever made? Not even close.

I wish someone WOULD do a great film or miniseries about Hearst. It's quite a story.

  • what your not getiing is that look at the year this film was made 1941 not 1991 no other film comes close to advancing the art of film as this does.

  • My thing is they have no Warhol films on the list....The man invented Reality Television 40 years before it even was thought up...IDK I am a biased art student.

  • the cinematography in this film is brilliant, the acting could still be better but it was still great. the cin
