  • ...when I was dating /single & focusing on myself as a total package--I never had trouble attracting quality men w/ my natural hair. As long as I looked good, it was never an issue! As for fake hair, I have to say I think you're on point. Add fake nails to that list. Most men hate those too. Nevermind what they admire about celebrities these women present a fantasy image that they'll never have. That goes for men of all races, btw. So black men are not "confused". Think beyond our hair!

  • Ok. I'm a married woman. I'm going to tell it like it is. Quality black men are attracted to women who have the full package--not just "nice hair" but also nice bodies and nice personalities. Far too many of us blk women put far too much emphasis on our hair

  • continued...Some black women place great emphasis on their hair & neglect the rest! That goes for both natural head & relaxed ladies. Also, how u carry yourself/ level of confidence while you're out in the world will affect whom you attract. I'm talking from personal experience here. Men use compliments as convo starters to show interest. You don't want compliments from every random dude! I challenge every fellow blk woman to think beyond their hair cause usually its not that simple...

  • you are so pretty. what u mean black men dont get at u. girl where u live??? and whats wrong wit tony braxton??? i think tony looks good both with weave and her real hair. I like her better back in the days wit da lil short cut she had goin on.

  • Hello, my cousin forwarded me this link and I found it interesting. First I think you are pretty and don't know why brothers aren't approaching you. If you were around and i saw you you'd defininetly get hollered at. I am a black man and I love girls with natural hair. (especially if it's curly). When I see a woman with hair I think is kool I always have to compliment them on it. Hope you post another video as you grow your hair. I wanna see the results.

  • I remember at my university we did a poll on what black men prefer, natural or weave and a majority said natural. But I know for a fact that is not true. Most of them will go crazy for a long piece of yaki.

  • I think you look good sister ;)

  • bye the way. i love black women in their natural element. and i would and i do complement women on their hair. i just never see it southern cali aka hollywood. black women where their hair in the typical ways not just to impress black men but to suite other black women and society at large. their style of hair is their way of blending into society and mainstreaming themselves.

  • what makes the women that u listed attractive to black men has more to do with their body and face. (not to sound shallow) it was their choice to wear their hair they way they do. if that is what the white man, whose pays, likes than that is what they will do.

  • I LOVE BLACK WOMEN WITH NATURAL HAIR!!!! LOVE THEM LOVE THEM!!! I Have had issues in my relationships because I've tried to get some of them to go natural!! My choice would be to marry a natural woman...

I'm not gonna date someone Just because they have natural though. Some of the women you met are just FINE!! Weve or Not. Megan Good could be as bald as shande O'conor would not make a diffrence. I think it's sad that some women who are superfine feel like the need to have weve.

  • One thing that is imprtant to note is that the men who do talk to natural woman have much more to offer 9 time out of 10.

I go out of my way to complement any woman IC with natural hair. Old, Young, Teenage. Why because I love it. I I want to see more and more of it. All styles.

  • I haven't had the same response at all. Most of the blk men who have approached me have never made it an issue one way or another. The one's who have made comments, have been nothing but positive. It's sounds like there may have been some negative experiences and I'm sorry for that, but there are definitely a variety of blk men who like a variety of girls, including natural haired girls. More than hair though, guys respond to my confidence. So if they like me they do, if they don't they don't.

  • thank you! i love this video!

heck, i had my entire relationship end because of my choice to go natural. he thought nappy hair was masculine and ugly and just wasn't attracted to me anymore.

i stood firm with my commitment to being natural and he was clear that my hair was unacceptable.

glad our relationship ended then instead of if i had lost a limb or a breast.

my nappy hair is like a litmus test for superficial men.

(i don't get much attention from black men either-not anymore.)

  • omg! thats horrible. but I feel the same way. I know that now with natural hair I may not opitimise society's standard of beauty but that is more helpful in discarding the ridiculous men who are looking for that. i like your courage for staying natural!

  • I'm the wrong person to ask about hair. I could care less, I mean I've dated a rasta girl and my only problem with her was the weed (should have thought about that before dating her). I've also dated a girl who had short hair like mine, she just cut it off but she smoked cigarettes. I'm just into bubbly personalities, a nice smile, humorous, laugh at stupid stuff women who are health conscious and DON'T SMOKE. But your lack of compliments consider this there are a few different types of men...

  • ...A) Kamikaze type: plays by numbers. He'll compliment 100 women trying to get that 5% he can hook up with. His compliments aren't really sincere.

    B) The gambler type: unlike type A he weighs his possibilities of succes and strategically targets high hook up ratio women.

    C) The nucular bomb type: to this man, a compliment should be used only on rare occasions like nukes because he doesn't want to give egotistical women more of a reason to feel themselves. His compliments are the real deal...

  • ...I'm guessing in your city there aren't many Kamikazes. The gamblers think that they're going to get an L so they don't even try ("she's probably in touch with herself and spiritual, couldn't get her to poll dance or drop it like it's hot"). As for Mr Nuke, he's either analysing you to see if personality-wise it's ok to drop a war head on you or there aren't many in your city.

Even though I'm not a hair freak, I think I speak for all fellow Nukes when I say thiss...

  • ...You are that breath a person takes after being underwater for five minutes: sweet and an absolute necessity. Consider yourself bombed.

  • It is a shame that the texture of your hair (we all know that black folk run the gamete on textures of hair) denotes how acceptable it is. Maybe, folk just need to become more open minded and make the decision that all hair, no matter how coarse or not, is equally beautiful. Especially black hair... we have so much versatility. Do you know how many white girls say they envy my hair? I don't believe many of them but some I do. Your hair is beautiful, girl and I will tell you a million times more!

  • This was an interesting video. I've told you in numerous video that you're beautiful and your hair is divine. I personally, have gotten my last relaxer in November 2006 and started wearing my completely natural hair in December 2007. Not to brag, but I have gotten numerous compliments from men and women, black, white, hispanic, and asian on my natural hair. Quite honestly, because of my "hair texture", people have told me that it's more acceptable. It's less coarse, not as rough.

  • If a black man really like/love you he should like/love you even if you wear your hair naturally. If not more. Not under certain conditions regarding your hair. As long as it is looking good he should not have a problem with it. More of them really should be more supportive of it anyway since a lot of them hate weaves so much. But perms come into the picture. That's fake, TOO. Black men be real. A lot of you don't seem anymore real than a black woman with a perm or weave. Yet love to talk mess.

  • loving the eyeshadow

  • I'm shocked that you haven't had good response from men. In all the years I've been natural, especially when I use to rock the fro!? I would have compliments left right and centre. Your beautiful and your hair is beautitful. Maybe they are intimidated by you and don't know how to handle a beautiful, confident women like you. And if that's the case..that's sad. If you were here in Toronto or even in england or in the islands, you wouldn't be able to keep them at bay.

  • Eyeshadow is off the chain!!

  • sometimes it depends on where you live and what type of enviroment you are in. in DC many women have natural hair and guys love it. I have dreads and my boyfriend likes my hair , he's not black though =o

  • Interesting vid and to an extent you are correct, but like you said depending on where you live natural hair can be loved or hated. I live in Philly and it is loved, if not envied. But as a beautiful woman such as yourself, validation comes from within and you don't need validation from others. Everyone has preferences, some are confused as you say, but it all boils down to preference. In the naturals perfect world, natural would be loved, but our world is diverse which makes it so great.

  • I FUCKING LOVE YOUR EYE SHADOW!!!!!!!! **love**

  • Some men are ridiculous!

But Vanessa William (soul food tv actress)

has natural hair, and she is GORGE!

You kind of remind me of her (hair wise)

  • I have to stop commenting on this video - I'm going to look like a stalker (lol) But OMG...I almost laughed out loud when you were talking about black men and weaves "UGH!" Your facial expression just killed me. You're hilarious.

  • Yeah, I agree with a lot you've said. But Im amazed Black men dont approach you. I mean, you're beautiful. Where do you live? South Dakota?? LOL But seriously, yeah, I have gotten both ends...people calling me queen and stuff (LOL) and the ew yucky why would you do that to yourself?!? LOL It depends on the person and the state of my hair. When its curly and longer, of course everyone loves it...BOOO I really dont care. I love my hair all the time

  • Well, I've been watching your videos and your hair is beautiful. I have been natural for over a year and my husband loves it. Being natural is very liberating, and I don't think I'll ever relax my hair again. Keep your head up and know who you are, whether guys compliment you or not, know that you are beautiful and let no one tell you differently!

  • i do that all the time. i just complimented one of my teachers at school on her naturalism..lolz and she happened to be going through with her hair.. not saying that her hair was not good but it was a small thick afro that just would never cooperate so i referred- her- to- you!..

  • alot of guys are intimidated by the fact that a woman is confident enuff to wear her natural hair

  • thats right.

  • This is a good topic. You're a beautiful lady by the way and I commend you for going natural. I say commend because I am actually afraid to go natural because of the way of the world (meaning my black community). I wear weaves but I STILL am in the same boat as you. I get a lot of attention but they'll always ask me "why don't you wear your natural hair" yet worship the clebs...i guess they DO want natural meaning no weave but maybe permed. I dont feel it should matter as long as she looks good

  • I thought you were very beautiful, but after watching this one, I have changed my mind. This is just my two cent; you can take it or delete it. I also thought it was very stereotypical that you would generalize black men in such a poor light. It would have been more appropriate if you said the men you encountered were XYZ but to say how black men are over the web was very irresponsible. I am speaking as a successful strong black woman married to a successful strong black man.

  • i hope you're saying that to all the black men on the web who say "black women are XYZ." are you defending/protecting us too?

  • Seriously. It never ceases to amaze me how we always defend them, but they rearely defend us.

  • THANK YOU! Thats what I say all the time!

  • Comment removed

  • RusticBeauty those aren't real brothas you are dealing with. Shoot I love my wife with her natural hair. I can't stand weaves, I wish more sistahs would rock the natural hair. Nothing like a sistah with some natural hair.

  • i thought jada pinkett smith hair was natural because i seen the pics of her hair short afro and just assume she grew it out. anyway my black celebrity hair heroes are renee goldsberry, erika alexander, t'keyah keymah, rachael true, aunjanue ellis, and ami brabson.

  • i have been natural for a year and seven months. i have gotten many compliments and respect for my decision of going natural. i also have a boyfriend and he doesnt have a problem with it he actually loves it

  • Keep it up honey please! please keep up the hair tutorials i need to learn how to style my fro! Black men in canada always approach me especially with my fro. At first i was so scared until i realised that the only haters were unfortunately some black women, just because of their own insecurities im sure.

You are beautiful, and i am happy to say and sad that it has to be said but you are a strong woman, stay true to you.

  • It takes alot of confidence and self love to rock a natural do. So it should come as no surprise that these shallow black dudes are scared as hell to approach a sistah who exudes these qualities. You natural sistahs should appreciate the fact that your natural hair helps you filter out the trash.I dont know what media you guys are talking about, but I've noticed that 99.9% of black women on TV commercials rock natural hairstyles. So someone out there loves us natural! Heyyyy!

  • pretty shadow/great topic....

  • I'm light skinned and I think that dark skin is sexy. My boyfriend has the most beautiful deep complexion. I talked to him about my decision of going natural, and he was very supporting. Recently when I was about to quit he even persuaded me not too. I can't wait to get back to my roots, just the way God made me.

  • Excellent!! I loved your video. I got my hair sisterlocked Mar 08, I have not cut my relaxed ends..I braid it to make the texture look more uniformed. I feel FREE, liberated, confident with wearing my locs. I have gotten more compliments from men of all races and women. I date all races of men. I have discussed and been confunsed hearing mean say negative things about weaves but drool over the next celeb with weave--they would be my definition of confused as well...

  • Brothers aren't confused. They have been indoctrinated into the white world's definition of beauty: long hair, light skin. So, its not all their fault. And, if more sisters started wearing their hair natural, it would become the norm. Personally, brothers have approached me regardless of what my hair looks like and I am in the deep south. If a brother is into you, he's going to look into your eyes and see who you are not look at your hair and wonder who you are.

    Salaam Rustic. Bless you.

  • I liked your last 2 minutes alot cause i think people should know that they are being admired for somthing brave and beautiful

  • I totally agree with you on black men and natural hair. I too have natural hair and live in NYC and find it surprising when black men come up to me and state stupid comment. Also most of these black men whom like these celebrity, like these women because they are lighter skin or rather the "hot mulatto". I find that to be sad.

  • Come to Chicago. Most Chicago Men LOVE NATURAL HAIR. It is the craze here.

  • Most of the compliments I get come from white guys and older black men. *shrug* I haven't had black men insult me for it or anything but then I've moved to a predominantly white town (I'm talk 97%) so...they're kind of rare around here. I didn't get a chance to wear my hair out back in my hometown but I'm sure people would have left me alone about it for the most part and ignored me. Other black women though...oh boy. The rude comments I'd probably get. SMH.

  • the funny thing is my hair is really short and natural, i just cut it and i get compliments on it from men and women. and my husband personally hates permed hair or weaves or braids so i really think its where you live. I think Black men just want booty, i dont think they care if it comes attached to a weave or a puff LOL. but thats just my experience.

  • i really do agree w/ what you're saying!

  • hey thats my response up there but you trippin cuz ill holla at yo ass quick ya dig it aint nothing wrong with the natural naps!!! ay foreal i bet you got a nice body Lol;3) ;3)

  • to us the right way....treat us how we want to be treated? I don't think so! But scratch what I said about black men being confused about everything I should say ALL men. White men don't normally approach white women with pink hair or jet black dyed hair....its all about looks with men bottom line. Natural or not, white, black or whatever....MEN are all about looks and only go by what is conveyed to them from the media. They're merely children in that sense.

  • @ Corbetj1

I beg to differ on that comment about all black ppl being confused. U can only know how black men feel about women with natural hair only after being with them and being natural yourself. There are some women who want waves on her guy....I don't know any, but there may be some. But mostly what do brothers present with? One-braids Two-Fades Three-Locs. Me personally I will take them all I don't give a damn about hair. Most women don't I mean...is hair gonna treat us right and talk..

  • i dont think this is fair to men in general. i figure you are targeting a certain type of man but you have to think about society as a whole. in our society outward beauty is the long hair and the flawless skin, so if you think about it, that is what our men were brought up thinking, then there is no wonder they look at women with weaves and make-up. its just like black women would prefer a black man with waves instead of beady beads or cut muscles rather than a belly right?

  • thank you for this post! they are very confused!

  • I have a mixture of responses from men, more good than bad.I love natural hair.A diff. type of man is attracted to me now cuz of my natural hair. One guy who used to like me for years and when he saw my hair he said "you look like an african". I have the other type of man who is attracted to me, speak positively of my hair and says how he wished more women could do what I do, etc. Black ppl in general need to just chill out and think about what they're saying. FYI - I live in the south.

  • dont refer to all black men this is a serious issue within african american society not in britain

  • Dont be crazy moosegrizzly

I know 4a fact tht when I hav had long extentions hair dwn my back Black guys r more likely 2holler at u

&when I hav my own natural afro hair Black men hardly approach me, normally i get the odd white guy approaching more

moosegrizzly Black people in the UK have all the same problems with natural afro hair as Americans do.

If anything things r worse in the UK (not so much London)Black men r mor likely 2b with white women anyway let alone natural haired Black women

  • THANK YOU, its just the same as men saying "i dont like women who wear make up" but they like celebs right, and celebs wear TONS of make up

  • Do black women like men with natural hair? Or do black men have to brush their hair 50 times a day and wear a du rag? I think black people as a whole are confused about image sometimes.

  • Personally, a man with dreads is like omg...*drool*. haven't met any other black women (yet) that are opposed to how men wear their hair as long as it looks good.

  • LOL if a man defines a woman by judging her hair, then he is in trouble. When we get all it all falls out anyway LOL!!! Keep being you and the right man will fall in line.

Jay 26 Black man not confused LOL

  • Black men are naturally confused not only about a woman's beauty....but pretty much about everything.

  • Well, some guys care and some dont. *shrug*

By the way, would you stop being so pretty!!! :)

  • It has taken a while for my husband to accept my natural hair. It's almost been three years now. He is a black man and he loves me and my hair. When I'm happy,he's happy. He's glad that I stopped perming lol. I was an unhappy person when I was chemically straightening my hair and then watching it fall out by the handfulls. I teach my children that curly hair is wonderful and I love my husband to touch my soft curly hair....which he often does.:) Love my curls!

  • Girl I don' attract blackmen either what kinda race do you usually attract?

  • i dont think men really care

  • i want to know how you did your purple eye shadow?

  • (HARRISINGH)I used the Beauties Factory 120 Color pallette. I basically played with some of the colors on there.

  • I think men pick those celebrities because they are pretty. Although they hair is fake and they have on pounds of makeup doesn't to them. There aren't many natural celeberites out there. Maybe if there were more to choose from? I don't know.

I have always gotten positive feedback on my hair from men. I only recieved one negative comment from a man. He said I looked "African". I told him that's the look I was going for. lol.

  • That was hilarious, nice comment.

  • I've heard some of the same things and I don't think any man other then my hubby(so screw the rest anyway) as complimented me on my hair I didn't go natural till last year so I was already married and dating was an issue to consider I think SOME black man just get caught up in the Hollywood idea of beauty which is look European

  • Great topic! I feel like if a girl is really rockin her hair it can be anyway. My two sisters and I have had natural hair our entire lives and are all married to black men and I nevr had a problem getting compliments. We did grow up in (northern) California, but there was still alot of adversity from women mostly.

  • I soo understand...I live in mississippi, and the majority of black guys do not like girls with natural hair..i've been natural for 3 years, and single (but I'm lovin it) anyway guys here are so closed minded, narrow minded, not exposed enough, and definately confused!! Even some of the black women here in mississippi are ignorant when it comes to hair, like whenever I wear my natural hair out I get these disgusting look from black women and men...its really sad!

  • lol white women wear weaves too :D

  • fuck hair straight up shit can be anyway natural, fake, perm, flat, messed up, fucked up, as long as she beautiful im good real talk lol

  • Seriously...I don't attract black guys .. I get more attention from White or Latin guys.. and recently more Asian. The biggest compliment I get is the texture and who I change my style up everyday..Usually if the relationship gets deep enough I can get a scalp massage out of the deal... but that's another story. The point is I get more compliments just from plain interest and fascination than appreciation..

  • YOUR EYES LOOK GORGEOUS!!!

  • let me be #4 to say that your hair is pretty

  • I am a natural black woman and I get the most compliments from white women. Maybe I should start dating them.......... HA!

Naw but for real. This issue is REAL, Rustic Beauty kept it 100 wit yall. This just proves that going natural MUST be for YOUR own reasons. If no man looked at you EVER again, you still gotta be cool with it. Self-love people. SELF-love. Living from the inside out. 2 fingaz out tha roof. DEUCES.

  • Stop settling for blk men. One of the reason I went natural was because I didn't want to limit myself. And I wo't limit myself when it comes to dating. A lot of Blk men have internal issues w/ hair and color and they might not get over it w/in this century.

There are so many men out there why spend time worrying about a blk man who likes straight hair. It's the 21st century and we're going to have to start looking outside our race. I have.

  • Thank you so much for saying this, young black girls need to know hear this. Broaden ur horizons when it comes to looking for a mate. I have girlfriend making six figure salaries, living in n'hoods where all they meet are men of other ethnicities and they are turnig them down hoping to find "a brutha". SMH

My hair is natural, when it's flat ironed straight guess who I get the most attention from? Ironically my hubby is Latino and he prefers my curls n'coils.

  • greetings! i am a black man, and i LOVE LOVE LOVE natural hair. alot of black men have the same issues as black women. self hate. keep rocking that fro. youre GORGEOUS! peace

  • I totally Understand what you are saying! when I got the big chop NO ONE looked at me-unless they saw me from the back! When they saw my hair, they would pass me by. One guy said "you have beautiful hair." and he had locs. I'm glad I'm already married. He just has to deal with it. He says he likes it.

  • My husband and I were having this discussion a few days ago and he could not refute my obsrevation. Black men and black women have alpha personalities and as we know 2 alpha personalities in a relationship can't work unless your black man is passive and calm or until you finally allow him to think he wears the pants in the relationship. lol. They love us, but their personality & rearing don't allow them to accept the challenge by a sex that is stereotypically supposed to be the "gentler" sex ;)

  • black men it is true have thier contradictions also, your natural hair choice naturally helps cure our sickness;thank you.why don't black men approach you?the media brainwashes.

  • dont use celebs as a test for fact; there arent many cebs with natural. different strokes for diff folks. my opinion is that beaty is at best natural. and you are right guys need to affirm a naturally beatiful woman. when i see my fiancee in natural am turned on. thoughtful vid.

  • great vid people tend to be more liberal online then in person

by the way i am natural and love yur hair

  • some of them, but not all! i know lots of proud black women with weaves our relaxed hair!! ya shouldn't be ashamed of your roots,

and being afro-american is not cuz of ya hair , ya don't just turn white ( thank god ) if ya don't wear ya hear natural! why's this such a big issues, be who you wanna be !

the only reason why i relaxed my hair cuz i wanted something different,

  • Relaxing your hair does not make you different. It makes you the same as every single other lost black woman...

  • yo i wouldnt date any of those girls they dont fight for the cause and if its important enough to risk your life for then itll play a major role in the future. and i think it is your business thats what leaders do

  • I guess I'm lucky that only one guy didn't like my natural hair (BC April 06).He was my ex & the thing he actually didn't like was the shortnes after my BC.But after it grew he had no problem with the nappy factor. Not that I cared what he thought :-) I think if most black men got to stick their hands in some squishy soft squiggly coily natural hair, they'd never want to touch weave again LOL!! If I happen to not have my ipod on,the compliments I get from Black men usually include the hair.

  • I'm thinking about "going natural" or rather...going back natural (lol) and this is definitely something I've thought about. If men would be attracted to me (isn't that sort of weird..to just be your original self and have to worry about being romantically rejected?) Anyway, it's not like I have such a happenin' love life now (lol). But thanks for posing the question and posting the video.

  • I get more compliments on my natural hair than I ever got with a relaxer. But I also get a lot of strange looks and stares... like people are trying to figure out what it is LOL

  • Well let me start by introducing myself, I'm Mike, and I left a comment on another vid that was kinda like this one, but I do love a woman with natural hair. The Nappier the better, I guess. LOL. I have natural hair I guess, not that it was ever permed or anything but I enjoy taking care of my hair and I know it must feel 10 times as good for a woman with natural hair. Oh and as for my list of celebrities I would date. LOL. It goes...

Erykah Badu, India Arie and my all time favorite...Jill Scott

  • Me personally, i like my natural hair and cant wait until it grows out. I have found that black me like me MORE that I have gotten rid of the perm, and not just afrocentric ones, but fly guys yada yada all types.

I seem to get more dirty looks and coments from the women with weave and perms.

The way i lokk at it.....if you are so hot because of your weave of perm why do you feel a way when i walk into the room? lol people are funny.

  • I've been natural for about 1-1/2 yrs, wearing cornrows since. About 3 mos. ago, I sported a "Pam Grier" or "Angela Davis" afro. My hubby loved it. However, I got many laughs from people that knew me & a friend of another race who said to me "It's not you." Very discouraging. I'm lt. skinned w/o the "good hair" that most lt. skinned people have. Any sugg. on getting started wearing my hair out with the right products? Thanks. BTW, pls no disrespectful comments.

  • girl rock your fro!!!

  • Does it really matter though if the hair is straight, relaxed, or natural? In the end, it is just hair and people like what they like.

  • just want to say that you are beautiful and I love your eye makeup

when I had a texturizer in my hair it was chin length after shrinkage, I got black men asking how long it was when I straightened it

Now I did a big chop and started over, I have about 4 inches of hair, type 4a and black men don't say anything to me at all, I do get compliments from white people

  • I rarely received compliments when my hair was short to medium puffy curly fro, when it was first cut (shaved in the back with a little on top) everyone loved it. Now that it is close to my shoulders (dry or after shrinkage) I get more compliments however I have gotten insult mostly by black women & the runner ups were hispanics. I get the, "why don't you get a perm" talk and then I off course put them in their place because I feel why should I not where my hair how I was born to wear it.

  • I think brothas like natural hair more than they would like to admit. I've been asked out more now than when I wore weaves and perms. I have short sisterlocks right now and I am very surprised by BM's reaction. I guess it depends on where you live. :)

  • Black men are confused...

  • what's the issue with weaves our relaxed hair!

damn, i mean white women have extensions, & they do permanents!!!

  • Yes they do...but its not because they can't take their natural hair texture...they are actually making the choice to for themselves. Some black women feel compelled to and feel that they can't wear their hair any other way. You can't compare everyday black people wearing weave with white people wearing weave. Its not the same.

  • black men don't like natural hair eitha yew have long hair or a weave and they would rather you wear a weave than natural hair

  • and u know what gets me is how black women got straight DISSED when they wore weaves back in the day! They even had parody songs about it like "Hair, Weave". Now the script has flipped.

  • EXACTLY!

  • the thought of boys didnt go through my mind until after the bc lol. when i asked my bf what he thought about it, he said it's just hair =] the boys at school like my hair texture lol, they get jealous becuase i have a hairline :p they love touching my hair. one boy even told me "you got that good negro hair!" i was like thank you but excuuuse me? xD

  • I've been natural for 8 yrs and my hubby has come to appreciate it. For the 1st 4 yrs of our marriage I was permed, braided, short hair, long weave...he's seen it all. But I do know guys that have been brave enuf to tell me they liked my hair better straightened...we gotta rock what we wanna rock. No more lye for me! This is what God gave me and I'm gonna rock it. Been loc'd now for 3 months.

  • I've been natural for 9 months and I get compliments from people of all races...even white people! Unfortunately the women that black men see on tv are very europeanized and aren't exposed to many naturals so they remained biased. I haven't gotten any negative comments yet honestly- nothing but positive words...and have inspired alot of other women to get rid of the relaxer.

  • I have naturally curly hair. I must say that I have recieved WAY more attention from men (BLACK men and others) since I started wearing it natural. In fact, I have been told by men that they prefer me with curly hair as opposed to straight. For me, my hair was always like an accessory and part of my outfit/attitude.If you look fly anD rock it with confidence that shows and men are attracted to confidence. I have to stick up for the brothas! Also, I live in Miami so maybe that matters.

  • And you honestly think BM would have had the same reaction to you if your hair were naturally nappy and not curly? Allot of black ppl still live by the good hair/bad hair mentality lets not discount that. It could be that they consider you to have good hair so its acceptable.

  • ive been natural for about a year. i dont know maybe bcuz im livin in canada its different. but, i feel that guys like a woman's hair if they think its looks nice, which is usually dependant upon the style(natural or processed). my father prefers natural black hair over any other hair type as well as my present boyfriend.

  • thanks superchick76. you just have to make yourself happy. i'm happy being natural i find it suits my lifestyle and personality. i'm trying to be. ... TRYING.. to be more health aware inside and out and i feel (I FEEL (don't wanna offend any1)) being natural is apart of MY process. you will never pls everyone but being happy with you whether thats being natural or not some1 will love you for being YOUSELF.

  • I like how you wear your make up. It's pretty. It brings out your eyes. As for this graceuntold person he/she can bequiet. Weaving and make up are two different things. You can instantly wash that make up up.

  • I live in Atlanta and I've met many men who LOVE my natural hair and verbalize it. Some men say they love the curl... others say that they like natural hair because it smells better. :) BUT! I've dated a white man for 10 months and he never mentioned my hair. When I asked him how he liked it... he said "I liked it that one time when you wore it straighter." Now I don't blame him, but from then on, it made me wonder...

  • i find that white men may prefer your hair straight but unlike many black men, it won't deter him from dating you at all if it's not.

  • Black men are so full of it. They talk about how they want a woman with natural beauty and when they see a woman with natural hair, they not attractive to that. I wore a natural 2 years ago but fell in love with a guy who told me I look better with relax hair so I put a perm in my hair. That was a big mistake! My hair broke off and never grew. I am all natural now and I am not going back. At this point, if a guy can't accept me for me, then screw him!

  • this girl is not throwing black men under the bus, lol. you must be paranoid. she is just stating how sometimes they can contradict themselves.

  • LOL. I don't think she means EVERY black man but then on the flip side...there's a lot of videos doing the opposite. BM against BW. But anyway I don't buy into all the hype. It's too broad, too general to apply to EVERY BM or BW.

  • Lol. I don't think that she's talking about EVERY black man, but go look up SargeWP and see how many black men are throwing ME (a Black woman) under the bus. I feel your anger. LOL

  • one guy i was getting to know stopped contacting me cuz i did the BC and went natural when i confronted him if was about my hair he confessed that he liked my hair when it was straight.well.....he got left 2 the curb vey quickly, i just don't care about what blk men or women like. i just do what i like what makes me happy. 2 me i'm showing the world this is the real me no weaves, no perms just natural. (i av nothing against weaves of perms by the way.)

  • Just do you girl...don't care what people say.. thats how I feel about it.

  • your comment has no place on this page U obviously dont get the subject of this video

  • (graceuntold)I can wear bright 'unnatural' makeup because 'I can'. It is the simple, undenialable answer that can't be argued with. How 'DARE' I advise...do you come on youtube for the truth? Were you so easily swayed by this message? If you were, that is something you have to deal with. These are MY opinions LOVE it or HATE it...I hope you noticed youself saying 'Just be natural' is YOUR defintion of beauty that YOU are PUSHING on me. POINT MADE each person decides what beauty is, not you.

  • You really are comparing apples and oranges. Rustic could wash off that make up right then and there if she wanted but in my experience, black women CLING to weave as if their lives depended on it. They yearn for relaxers and such. Makeup/Fake hair=not the same.

  • (graceuntold)The video did mention 'black hair' so that is kinda going be..er...the topic...however if you search 'clown' or 'makeup' I gather you will find videos on that.

  • Its funny because when i did the bc people loved it here in minnesota because its so diverse but when I went to missisippi they thought i was a lesbian or something... BUT

the men in mississippi approached me more because they say they liked my hair and I wasnt like those other girls but in minnesota I've had about... 2 men say something about my hair.

    wierd

    i know

  • Nice video! I am transitioning to natural and my boyfriend (a blk 28 year old) is actually the one who suggested it. I feel like I'm really blessed to have him not only behind me, but helping me and encouraging me thru these crazy-hair times!! But I do TOTALLY agree that many (not all) blk men are confused. But thats why God made us Black women so strong - we can handle it ;-)

*You're beautiful, btw - no homo!

  • Jada Pinkett is natural an I think toni braxton is too but she just wears wigs. Point Blank men dont know what they want. But your eyeshadow is to die for!!! What is it? It's beautiful. did you get lots of comments on your relaxed hair when you had it? you are a beautiful girl but maybe the men just werent interested in you personally for some odd reason and used your hair as a cope out. Just love you and your inner beauty will radiate out and thats what people will be drawn to.

  • you are sooo beautiful...

im 17 and i really want to go natural but my aunt would not allow it. yet she has dreadlocks..... (wishy washy much???)

yea i live in the bronx and many girls in my school went natural and i only think that the girls have compliments. however the guys laugh at the girls...

watever...cant wait till june 5th...(graduation) i will be making my trip to the barber shop...

  • terriakaSmylz, your story similar to mine. becuz me and you are the same age and both seniors. i did my bc in sept. i was going to do my bc in june also ! lol i cudn't wait! i sed eff it and my mom didn't want me to go natural either at first and she has dreads too. now she loves bcuz she thot ppl were going to bring me down and i wasn't able to take care of it. now it has grown alot and she really respects what i did. all i got to say is: do you! i'm going to add u as a frend. peace!

  • ...tell it like it is... an unfortunate, misleading and disrespectful double standard that us men perpetuate...

  • WOW! Now I can honestly say I came across a black man who "gets it". Well said, I appreciate you.

*throwing water on mistahjai to see if hell multiply*

  • Well said!

  • I'm transitioning and I constantly find my mixed husband staring at my hair. I understand that it looks more like a construction zone but I'd rather know what he's thinking. He's so used to me relaxing my hair that he doesn't understand that my hair is kinky. I think that once I BC he will fall in love with my natural beauty. I feel that I will also have more flexibility with my natural hair to do the things he likes to do i.e. boating, swiming, etc.

  • Congrats on your transitioning :) You post a video of your BC.

  • Rusticbeauty- You know the person that was talking crap about you and the other natural sistas out there? TALKMADSHYT? Guess what their account got suspended, lol. I knew it was going to happen. I flagged the videos as well, lol.

  • When you say "black men" the problem for me is most American black men who don't approach me, but men of other colors approach me often. I feel it is because American has conditioned them from an early age that beauty is what the media promote. This is another thing for me I get alot of younger brothers (20's) who approach me. I getz no love from older brothers lol

  • great blog.. im natural.. and its a shame how they are come to my new page 1nalawest

  • Sistah u speak truth as well as being beautiful!TEACH!PREACH !

  • I have to agree with shiz1246, men in TX love my hair, and not just black men! Ive been natrual for about 2yr and my hair has never been so long and healthy which makes me more confident which in turn attract men....

  • I think where your live does matter. I live in Los Angeles and have been natural since 2006, and I have never gotten more compliments and smiles from black men and women about my hair since I've been natural. I think there are plenty of guys who would prefer a woman to be natural, but are willing to get with one who isn't. I don't know...but it's been a positive change for me at least.

  • I think that is totally true black men don't approach women with natural hair often at all,I remember one guy said natural hair looks hard and he would want his children to have a(soft) hair that is the reason he would not date a woman with kinky hair,I think this is caused by a brain conditioning from the media from a young age, what was their first image of beauty eg. sleeping beauty,I was never approached by black men and now I am happily married to a white man because he saw me not my hair.

  • Girl, come move to Texas! All the men here always compliment my 'fro and natural hairstyles

  • her eyeshadow is HOT!!!

  • AGREED !FIERCE HONEY !

  • please dont tell me you only date white men! since you say you dont care for black men, and by the way if i saw you id make a move!

  • im a black man and i only "wife" black women with natural hair!they tend to have there own opinion rather than watch BET and form there mentallity. it would be alot easier to find a decent wife if all black women went natural! just my opinion!
