u just make a small cut at the top of the durian, where u then crack it open from. i don know , but it does not taste bad at all. and the taste is very unique and good, does not taste like normal fruit at all. milky, custardy and sweet....

Your Mum was in heaven! Because it is loaded with carbohydrates, eating too much will 'overheat' the body and it's recommended to drink salt water afterwards. My Italian bf loves durian too and he plans to come visit during the durian season. =)

Alright, we now need to teach you the second secret of durians: It, like potato chips or fried food, increases body "heatiness", resulting in a higher chance of stuff like sore throats and fevers. What we do is that after emptying the durian of its fruit, we take the empty shell, fill it with salt water and drink from there to prevent sore throats from happening.

We also eat it with rice, but that's because some of us are THAT crazy.

Well, I don't.

I love the fresh durian. Unfortunately the fresh ones cost twice per pound than frozen. I have to settle for the frozen ones which is soggy. It's better than nothing.

Sometimes I put the frozen ones in the blender and make smoothie. Now that is better.

you're right , cut the shells , cut it small , wash & dry under the sun for about 3 days or until they really dry . then drink as tea. Good for high blood presure

Wash them first , then boil them with a little bit of salt . then peel the skin of the seed ... and eat ... there's a little white part inside the seed , don't eat it . And don't you just hate the smell that the durians leave on your fingers after eating them? It's impossible to wash the smell away using soap. What some people do is they wash their hands using the other layer of the husks. Some use the stem as "soap". The stem works for me most times. I don't know why.

Lastly, durian is a very heaty fruit. If you don't drink enough water, you can develop sore throat from eating too much. What most people in Singapore do, is that they drink salt water using the durian husk as cup. Apparently, it works. Or you can buy mangosteen, also known as the queen of fruits. Durians and mangosteen go hand in hand together.

There are mainly 2 kinds of durian. The bitter ones and the sweet ones. I personally like the sweet one... though I can never tell how to differentiate the two just by looking or smelling. You always have to do a taste test.
