The Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore. It collapsed in 1991, Nazi Germany fell in 1945. So, who again was the more successful regime? If it wasn't World War 2 that ended the reign of Hitler, it would have been something else. A nation can only survive so long on dreams of grandeur before someone releases the jig is up.

another fighting the Russians in eastern Europe, and lastly down in Northern Africa and the Middle East securing those wondrous oil fields. He had to completely off his rocker by that time or dangerously overconfident. Either way, it was undoing to fight the way he did, the blitzkrieg worked for Germany's fast moving forces, but anything requiring time to fight and secure caused problems because of their use of horses instead of motorized transport vehicles.
The German supply lines were long, easily cut-off, and not easily tread by the German forces who so desperately needed them. Hitler had finally pissed off far to many nations to defeat them all, he tried so desperately to hold onto what he had gained through his so-called "noble conquests" and ended up putting the German people (The allies as well) through years of hell to that end.

The League of Nations pitiful display in curbing Japanese interests in China and Italian interests in Abyssinia gave Hitler the confidence he needed to carry out his gearing up to war.
Though, it's doubtful that the British and French military was in a fit state to carry out any military action against Germany without incurring severe losses.

The Germans were not "scum" as you say. The Germans were a crushed people; they had been forced to take full responsibility for the entire first World War, pay all the reparations, and were left with nothing but a dead economy. Hitler, while not being the a greatest person around, was able to lift the spirits of an entire nation and pull them out of an economic downturn. His military buildup gave Germany jobs, stimulated the economy, and brought back national pride.

Either way, it was undoing to fight the way he did, the blitzkrieg worked for Germany's fast moving forces, but anything requiring time to fight and secure caused problems because of their use of horses instead of motorized transport vehicles.

The German military was unmatched in Blitzkrieg warfare, but it was the long, drawn out battles that were the downfall of the German upper command. They hadn't anticipated the United States being such a formidable foe and when they declared war on us like the Japanese did with their sudden attack on Pearl Harbor, there was only one way for the to be won. The Nazis would have to go through the United States and our industry building up weapons for the rest of the allies.

Nearing 1945, the Germans were outnumbered 10 to 1. These foolish decisions made by the Axis were really just ignorant and a good sign of how one can become so overwhelmed in power that they think they're some sort of a god. The Axis however had much potential, and nearly took all of Western Europe, an accomplishment to be admired.
