@Chugiddy Well, the Iphone 4 has the same PowerVR SGX chip that the 3gs had.

The processor is different, and is probably underclocked yet still faster than the 3gs.

So I don't see much of a 3d improvement. However, there's no need for it to be honest.

The new Droid X has the same graphics chip as well... people just need the right developer tools now... the hardware power is there.

ive been doing a lot of development on the iphone 3g-s lately, and the phone is definitely a close match with the psp. the 3g-s and 3rd-gen iphone use programmable GPUs instead of fixed function rendering pipelines like the older iphones, touches, and the psp use (psp-go may be programmable?). this allows programmers to use shaders to render their data which can allow us to do much more, and more efficiently. the iphone also supports hardware texture compression, higher-res textures, etc...

the iphone 3g actually had the same processor as the ipod touch 1st gen and the original iphone only upgrade was the 3g and its aperence while the 3gs had a processor upgrade along with ipod touch second gen and ipod touch 3rd gen( the ipod touch 3rd gen processor is a modified version of the 3gs's processor. they improved some rare overhaeting isuses and improved power consumpsoin.

i own the 32gb 3g and love it... it actually is a modivied processor from iphone 3gs. but there are know diferences between the ipod touch 8gb 3g and 2g like you said. but my ipod touch is only barely faster than my friends iphone 3gs
