As I watch this video, I am kind of surprised by the lack of reaction from her coach Elvira Saadi. She made no attempt to reach forwards and grab her gymnast as Madeline Gardiner fell. I thought that would have been the coach's first instinct when a gymnast whacks her face on the bar like that. If Elvira Saadi didn't feel strong enough to catch Gardiner, then maybe she could've gotten another coach to do the spotting.
do you know how fast an accident like that happens? plus, gymnasts are used to falling to their stomachs on yaegers--they do it all the time when they start throwing them by themselves. you can't catch a girl dropping that fast, even if you have good timing; its just not safe for the coach to even try and risk tearing a bicepts or what not. it stinks that she hit her face, but it happens.
she needed four stitches in her lip :(
