Reagan was democrat when he was the president of the Screen Actors Guild and was nicknamed "Red Ronnie" due to how communist he was. After marrying Nancy, he became a conservative and turned in a few actors to McCarthy that were in fact not communists.
I personally think he was part of the infiltration of communists into American politics that The Naked Communist(wiki it) warned about. Hence why he was able to end the cold war.
Ronald Reagan also won the Cold War, you can't really say that he taxed and spent on welfare... He spent a SHIT LOAD of money on some bogus programs with the military, such as "Star Wars" That everyone knew wouldn't work *Minus the Ruskies*, and this was a huge bargaining chip in the Cold War negotiations.
Oh, and open borders, or amnesty, is consistant with free trade (not to be confused with FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS, which are anti-free trade, like the PATRIOT ACT is unpatriotic)...free trade is consistant with free market capitalism...since labor is just a good/service, and it moving over borders is just free trade (treaty-less trade), free market capitalism and open borders are consistant with SOME (not all) conservatism.
Reagan was a neoconservative...he started off a Democrat, followed ideology from neo-Trotskyists like Irving Kristol...of course he was liberal...all neocons are liberals! FOX NEWS is a liberal network!
BTW, conservatism, not neoconservatism, is noninterventionist...so Beruit pull-outs were fine. And also despite the tax raises (instead of spending cuts), he left with lower overall tax rates then he came in under.

Great video man! Way to throw some cold water on those that are trying to deify Regan. Those on the right have tried to turn him into a mythological figure with the same stature as the founding fathers. I am really getting tired of the hero worship in this country.
Reagan did increase the debt, but he was also responsible for decreasing inflation, unemployment, and interest rates. His program created millions of jobs and $30 trillion in new wealth. He collected more revenue from the rich, while reducing revenue collected by the bottom half of taxpayers, and generated an economic powerhouse that lasted – with only minor hiccups – for nearly three decades.
This video is a little misleading. Reagan dropped the top marginal tax bracket down to 28% -- the lowest since the inception of the Federal Reserve, and he raised income taxes on the middle-class to partially cover the gap, which isn't very Liberal. He privatized airlines, deregulated banking, increased defense spending, and passed many other Conservative policies as well.
I wouldn't call him a Liberal hero; he just wasn't fiscal at all.
Reagan put his nuclear arsenal into Western Europe and made us live in fear of irresponsible US politics and policies. It is a shame that the assassin did not succeed in 1981, it would have saved the world a lot of trouble.
In my opinion, it seems that a president's charisma in office has more of an impact than his actions or policies. If Reagan is more like a liberal than a conservative, then why do we see different results from his term in office to Obama's if not his charisma? Anyone got a good answer?
Reagan was an out and out fraud. His so-called legacy is pretty much a lie. I have no problem with his tax raises, because how else can government run itself? I am sick of all the fucking praise he gets as the model conservative. They are all the same. And their dull admirers keep the stupid myths alive.

Reagan assisted in HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS deaths by not helping HIV & AIDS sufferers, Didnt fund federal research. pushed back treatment many years. Made the public fend for themselves while MANY MANY ppl suffered & died a horrible death. The man never even spoke the words HIV or AIDS publicly while in office. He is NO hero.
@sleekcartim Oh get off it you idiot, HIV wasn't even named until 1986. Bush did more than any other president to help the HIV infected and you all still hated him. You'd find any excuse to hate a republican president and excuse the mistakes of any democrat.
Of course, the "heroes" of the left include people like Mao and Stalin who flat out murdered hundreds of millions of their own people in order to advance their collectivist ideologies.
@thegoodlocust Listen, I commend Bush for what he has done for HIV research. That is the one silver lining in an otherwise bleak presidency. I thought his father was highly underrated president who had to sacrifice a second term in order to give Bill Clinton an assist on fixing economy which tanked because of Reagan's policies. Also, you sound like an idiot when you try to link Mao and Stalin to the left, quit watching Glenn Beck, you're smarter than that.
@thisisntme Bush the 1st and Clinton both deserve some credit as do their congresses. Clinton was lucky in many respects that his presidency occurred during the Internet bubble which bursts towards the begining of Bush 2's 1st term.
As for Mao, look up Anita Dunn, one of her favorite political figures is Mao. Anita Dunn, like many of these modern radicals was of course hired by Obama for his administration.
@thegoodlocust I know what you're referring to with Anita Dunn and you are misconstruing it. Dunn is not the first person to quote Mao or endorse one of his ideas, and she won't be the last. Besides that, you're painting the left with a broad brush. And when you do that, you lose people and it turns into a partisan fight. Finally, what Bush 43 did was make a bad situation worse with his policies, wars, and cronyism. He had an opportunity to build this nation after 9/11 and he blew it.
@thisisntme I'm not misconstruing anything. She said Mao was one of her favorite political philosophers. He is a mass murdrer. She is just one of many radicals Obama hired for his admin because he is a radical. If you don't know what I'm talking about then look her up.
Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of Bush 2 either, but I don't have an irrational hate of the man either unlike so many that are brainwashed by the media.
@thegoodlocust Dude, stop with the Glenn Beck nonsense. She was talking to graduating students about following their path, and she said admired Mao and Mother Theresa for the "follow your path" philosophy, not because he killed people. And please tell me how Obama is a radical? Nothing about him says radical, that is just another caricature made up by the Glenn Becks, Rush Limbaughs, Fux News, and tea drinker crowd.
@thisisntme If you believe that revisionist history, then you not only look like an idiot, you are one. "It's the economy stupid" was invented for Bush SR, thats why he was rightfully booted out. ppl were pissed cuz he cause a bad recession, dont piss on us & call it rain BUSH. I lost a business then due to it. THEN had the best years ever during 2 terms of clinton, so did everyone else i know!
@sleekcartim Dude, take that argument to goodlocust. All I said was Reagan caused that recession. I also said that Bush assisted Clinton rebuilding the economy. He raised taxes, which pretty much contradicted his infamous "read my lips" slogan. What I gave isn't revisionist history, it's actually supporting your argument. Calm down.
@thegoodlocust Im 48 y/o graduated HS in 1980, being gay i was worried about the so called "gay cancer" around the time of my graduation. I marched with "silence = death" this organization named because of REAGANS innaction. I was an AIDS buddy for years, helping those afflicted with this horrific disease. Reagan was owned by hateful religious right assholes, who thought AIDS was "gods wrath", "gays deserved it". Reagan's homophobia KILLED americans, their blood wrote that history literally
@sleekcartim The disease has been around for 100's of years. As I said they didn't even have the term HIV until 1986. i feel sorry for the people who get HIV, but the vast majority of them got it because they didn't practice safe sex. The fact is that a lot of gay men are really promiscuous and anal sex is inherently a very unsafe practice. So yeah, I feel bad for them, just like I feel bad for drunk drivers who get killed in accidents, but I also realize there is a personal element too.
@thegoodlocust Umm which Bush was that? the one who caused the savings & loan crisis costing ALL of us BIG BUX? or maybe you refer to the "It's the economy stupid" one? you cant be talking bout "W" dont even respond if you do, cuz you will be laughed off the internets.
@sleekcartim The policies under the 1st Bush helped to reduce the deficit just like the policies under Clinton. I'm specifically referring to some of the Omnibus Reconciliation Acts. This was long ago confirmed by the CBO.
@sleekcartim Republicans have plenty of good ideas; democrats have plenty of bad ideas, which makes "obstructionism" essential when they are in power. Both parties have serious issues, but the democratic party is a greater slave to special interests at the expense of the country as a whole.
The best political philosophy with the best ideas (as shown by history) is Libertarianism, but they don't play simplistic games of identity politics like the two main parties abuse in order to gain power.
@thegoodlocust Dude, the Repubs haven't had an original idea in 30 years. So if you think the Dems have bad ideas, I say bad ideas are better than no ideas at all. Also, I reject the notion that only one philosophy works in politics, Libertarianism is good in instances, but not in others. There is a reason for child labor laws and the FDA.
@thisisntme You think bad ideas are better than no ideas? That is illogical. If the question is "what do you want to do tonight?" and someone says, "Jump off a bridge" just because I don't have an idea doesn't mean jumping off the bridge is better than no idea. Anyway, all the progressive ideas have been around and implemented for over a 100 years and the results are usually failure, death or bankruptcy.
@thegoodlocust howz the weather in that alternate universe? although i do agree with libertarianism, but R's would throw themselves on their swords to stop them from gaining any real power.
@sleekcartim My "alternate universe?" I guess I just know history better than you do. Progressivism has been around for quite a while and has failed spectacularly where it has been implemented. Liberals are really bad about looking at results and correcting behavior, which is why they are always spending more and more money on things and getting no results.
@thegoodlocust your really saying R's are not slaves to special interests. wooow i almost fell of my chair! fat cat R's are undeniably owned by big business, their whole arguement against healthcare was badly defended by BIG PHARMA owned Republican mouthpieces. it's a matter of public record. dude theres so many more examples it's sickening. nice try didohead
@thegoodlocust there are no greater slaves to special interests & big biz than R's. Big Pharma owns R's. this was painfully obvious during the healthcare debate. i could go on all day...
I can believe that. According to my Dad, we lost a lot of tax deductions under Reagan.
Several things he did...well he didn't do us any favors. There were rumors of alzteimers might have been effecting him...could be true.
Also, as much as W. Bush has been attacked during his presidency, so was Reagan. All this good thing that he was god's gift to conservatives, didn't come until his (Reagan's) funeral.
Thats maybe when this love affair began...or attempt to rewrite history.
I'm a Libertarian. I liked Regan overall but I had ONE HUGE problem with him. He sucked up to Christianity and thereby invented the "religious right." Right or left should have NOTHING to do with religion or secularism. And prior to him most in the "bible belt" voted democrat. This fundamental change in politics turned the Republican party to shit.
@WKaliberr socialism fails. It starts to break down with numbers more than 200-ish people. It only works with small numbers, like small tribal communities. There's a reason Socialist countries are generally fairly poor, and eventually fall apart. most of the socialist countries out there now only manage to get by because they are financially propped up by capitalist governments.
@nate556 Socialism paired up with Capitalism is a good system. Capitalism on its own fails because it neglects too many people. Socialism is also not a perfect system on its own. This is why countries like Poland have such a booming economy while still having universal health care and a good education system. Capitalism is dangerous if you let it run wild. It needs to be held in check by some socialistic ideas.
It's hilarious to see the Rabid Conservatives fapping furiously over Reagan, when they never truly understood his track record.
Oh and by the by... when the AIDS epidemic was just in its infancy he could have stepped in and starting funding efforts to stop it and he didn't... because it was a primarily "Gay" disease.
Yeah, but it's not really government's job to fund the curing of diseases. If he were really a Conservative, then he would have kept govt small, reformed the currency system (Ended the Zionist Federal Reserve!) and allowed private charities to prosper. I imagine that, e.g., Red Cross hospitals would be much better at treating diseases than government programs would.
Nice Liberal sleight of hand used in your characterization of Ronald Reagan. You fail to mention that he had a Democrat House and Senate throughout his two terms in office. A lot of what he did was compromises but the net gains were still huge.
@MarkyBlueyes Sorry but congress on average voted for a SMALLER budget than Reagan request. Remember the president writes the budget. The sleight of hand is yours. Somehow when a democrat is in office it's the president’s fault where as when a republican is in office its congresses fault. What about Bush 2? Whose fault was it then? This is why as much as I would like to see the National Debt gone, the Tea party is just full if shit. They ignore reality and history. Vote 3rd party.
To be fair, I don't think administrations of Democratic presidents are any less hypocritical. It's just that their rhetoric is a lot nicer. Obama and Clinton are good examples.
When Clinton left the White House we had Budget Surpluses, and a $5 Trillion dollar Debt.
At the end of Bush W. regime we had massive budget deficits, and a $10.6 TRILLION dollar debt.
Both Parties are there to spin bullshit, take the criticism, and anger of the People, and shield the Shadow Government that actually runs this circus.
I agree that both are corrupt, but I think that Clinton's alleged surplus was due to the Republican Congress which didn't allow him to spend any money. They just couldn't find enough to agree on. I say "alleged" because the M2 and M3 increased during his regime as well, so one might speculate that he simply used the Fed to print money to effect the surplus. Everything is kind of an illusion when there's a central bank that prints fiat-money.
@LibertaerUeberAlles The surplus they always talked about on the news back in the 90's was a budget surplus. A budget surplus is when you spend less than what was budgeted. What a lot people don't realize is the government budget is always larger than the government's income. Look at the public debt under Clinton it increase. They spent less than planned (budgeted) but more than their income thus went further in to debt. Words are important, "budget surplus" and "surplus" are different things.
the fact that he raised taxes some doesn't change the fact that by the time he left office the tax rate was at 29% compared to when he came into office where it was at 70%, according to YOUR sources.
Reagan sadly had alzheimers for most of his term as president , Which would probably explain a lot . The War on Drugs , Reaganomics , George senior just continued his policies and the debt ticker clicked away like some crazy gas pump as they paid scientists to break ashtrays and measure the shards of glass and weigh nails in government studies . I remember that stuff lol .. Crazy spenders .
@SUPerFreakUsa There is absolutely no medical evidence to support that claim. but then again, this whole video falls pretty short on evidence in context. So it's not surprising most of the people watching are probably pretty stupid like yourself. Condemnation of the debt that Reagan supposedly racked up is the perfect example, Tip O'Neill and the Democrat controlled House and Senate deserves much blame for that debt is anyone, but of course we're not supposed to talk about that.
I agree. My impression is that Reagan kowtowed to the Dems on their spending, but only so they'd reciprocate on spending that his administration wanted. And let's not forget, his administration marked the ascendency of the Zionist NeoCons, who essentially hijacked his otherwise sorta-good-intentioned agenda.
@bigboss686 I think it would be much Kinder to chalk up Reagans Erratic and befuddled Behavior to alzheimers than to think that he was just acting naturally ,Mind you he was properly diagnosed three years after leaving office , He referred to Vice president Bush as prime minister Bush.. repeatedly , And maybe you know better than his son who says he saw it during his first term .So dont be a fool ..I will spank you so hard you will be calling me mommy .
@SUPerFreakUsa Sure to a hate filled fascist freak like you it would seem that way, but it is still not true an you have no evidence whatsoever. BTW not only do I know better but so does every doctor that ever examined the man. Besides that Ron Jr. is a piece of human garbage. However if you think he was a great diagnostician then do tell where he graduated medical school from? oh that's right, he didn't. As a matter of fact he recanted that lie regarding his make a buck book, try again dummy
I think catching that bullet courtesy of Bush's buddy Hinkley might have influenced Regan's politics a little. Check out Regan's 1964 speech "A Time For Choosing".
I don't believe Ronald Reagan is a hero, he is the one and the first that brought into illegal immigration law in the first place and George W. Bush continued it.
And both had brought up this stupid comment: if you don't accept illegal immigration law your a racist. How stupid.
Reagan slashed taxes on the rich big time. The top tax bracket paid around 70% income tax for most of the 20th century. Reagan slashed that to 50% as soon as he took office and by the end of his reign had dropped it to around 30%. Ronald Reagan gets so much good press because he was the rich man's best friend, while in reality he butchered the rest of the country.
Also..he deregulated, smashing any hopes of an actual ethics based free market and replaced it with the beginnings of the criminal corporate monopoly driven take what we give you market we now have. Lets face it they have all been crooks since JFK.
Reagan also passed a measure that would give amnesty to illegal aliens. Looking at the voter demographics of Hispanic voters an astounding amount of them vote Democrat.
One of the main injustices in this world is that our best scientific minds are working for defense industries or pharmaceuticals giants like Baxter or in biological labs run by our armed forces.Instead of a true technological age that benefits mankind, we see technology being manipulated away from potentially dramatic advances in public-use energy or medicine or infrastructure, away from the greater general good and toward the very agencies who have proven to have no regard for human beings.
The reason Reagan got away with so much is because Americans listened to his rhetoric whilst paying no attention to his actions. Reagan championed capitalism, yet in practice pursued socialism, just so long as it was socialism for the rich. Much like today I'm afraid.
You forgot to mention the Iran Contra and the fact that the Reagan Administration armed Iraq and Sadaam Huessein to the teeth with chemical weapons that he used on his own people.
Reagan also was president during the end of the cold war spending wasnt a issue then. Yes after the cold war ended he did also cut taxes again. He is considered a conservitive because he believed in civil libertys and states rights. He tried to put the power back to states and not to a central govt. Thats why conservitives support him
@LanceDirk lol do u even know how long the cold war was? one of the main reasons the cold war ended is due to spending. Reagan was all for removing centeral power in washington and protecting rights. Basicly not stooping to tsa the patriot act and other shady means to "protect national security" Thats why he is considered a icon. He faced "terrorism" and a debt but respected the constitution. In short he put his faith in americans not special interest and control or resources
It don't matter who you vote for, all that matters is that you, the American is choosing where you money goes, and how, but it does not affect you in anyway what so ever.
Ha!! Love it. Of course, the Reagan apologists will continue to turn a blind eye to the facts, as they always do, because they can't bear the thought of their "standard bearer" doing things they fight against daily. Thanks for posting.
Reagan was involved with Iran/Contra. He shipped in cocaine to finance CIA Black Ops programs. He sold missiles to Iran while arming Iraq during the Iran/Iraq war. Isn't that playing both sides of the fence? The cocaine Reagan shipped made its way to people like Ricky Ross. Ross turned 250 lbs of coke into crack every night before being busted. Reagan passed an anti drug bill in 1986 to increase crack possession penalties all while shipping in the cocaine.
The "Tea Party" types that advocate for Reagan are going off of what he said as Governor, not what he did as President. He even make a record, sold throughout the country, that warned of the coming evil of Medicare. Then he bails it out from the oval office.
I read in a posting somewhere that Reagan is the worst president in modern history, and that is by the numbers. Greatest tax increase, debt increase, amnesty program and number of staffers fired for corruption.
Well, I'm not a huge fan of Reagan, but let's make a few things clear. He cut the upper bracket income taxes from 75% to 28% and the "tax increases" you are referring to are basically the closing of tax loopholes and the broadening of the tax base.
As for spending, most historians agree that Reagan's spending policies forced the USSR to try and outspend us which caused its collapse.
Like Bush, Reagan made the fundamental error of thinking that reducing tax income would force spending cuts.
On the contrary, lowering personal income taxes was actually a good thing, since high income taxes generally support oligarchy. That's why so many billionaires vote Democrat.
@LibertaerUeberAlles Oh no, I actually liked his stance on taxes. The government spends way too much, but Reagan and Bush thought they could starve the beast and eventually force spending cuts. They were both certainly flawed when it came to spending - Reagan spent money to collapse the USSR while Bush thought he could bring democracy to the Middle East. I personally think a non-interventionist policy would've been preferable, cheaper and it would've set a better precedent on spending.
Ok, I misread your comment. I agree with you. Non-interventionism and normalized trade relations would have induced the SU to change. But I guess that's not what the MIC wanted..
RR was a master at saying one thing to one group of people and saying the exact opposite to another group of people. He was known to do it even in the span of a couple days.
This is a very misleading video. Reagan cut taxes far more than he raised them which is why under his presidency their were such high deficits. During the summer of 1981 the central focus of policy debate was on the Economic Recovery Tax Act (ERTA) of 1981, the Reagan tax cuts. The core of this proposal was a version of the Kemp-Roth bill providing a 25 percent across-the-board cut in personal marginal tax rates.
I'm always skeptical when people say "he lowered taxes then raised them 11 times." Because if you lower taxes by 100 and then raise them by 1 eleven times... you still lowered them.
But IDK. Seems like funny math to me. Why don't you just say "he lowered taxes by X and he raised taxes by Y" and then we can see which is bigger? Why the games?
@LoklarYsera You make a good point. However, the issue is not as simple as lowered taxes by X and raised them by Y. Because the fact is that he lowered taxes more for one specific group, and raised them more for another. Gee, I wonder which group made out the best.
Actually he was a "fiscal conservative" like all other "fiscal conservatives" in the past few decades. They all follow the philosophy of "decrease revenue, increase spending", while preaching the opposite. The actions of a labeled group determine the meaning of it's label. If you want to think of yourself as one of that label, but what it used to be half a century ago, then you should really look for the current label of your position.
Socrates said..."The Key to Wisdom is to know thw difference between things as they to appear to us, and the REALITY that lies behind those appearances."
The appearance is that Reagan was a great Conservative President who fought for Smaller Goverment...the REALITY was that he was mediocre, and saddled us with HUGE DEBT and BIGGER Government.
Reagan was a MYTH, and Conservatives erroneously perpetuate this Myth.
And so many people point to Reagan as evidence that at least since his administration the United States has been this amazingly and terrifyingly free market with no rules, no regulations and little taxation. Nobody cares about what people do or something, just what they say.
Yeah I heard Noam Chomsky somewhere saying that Reagan was the man who made the biggest spendings and created the biggest governement ever in American history.
Every one of Reagan's proposed budgets was larger than the one actually passed by the Democrat-controlled Congress. "Party of fiscal responsibility," my ass!
Dont forget Reagans contribution to the drug war. Crack cocaine for every ghetto.

@sleekcartim Oh get off it you idiot, HIV wasn't even named until 1986. Bush did more than any other president to help the HIV infected and you all still hated him. You'd find any excuse to hate a republican president and excuse the mistakes of any democrat.
Of course, the "heroes" of the left include people like Mao and Stalin who flat out murdered hundreds of millions of their own people in order to advance their collectivist ideologies.
thegoodlocust 1 year ago
@thegoodlocust Listen, I commend Bush for what he has done for HIV research. That is the one silver lining in an otherwise bleak presidency. I thought his father was highly underrated president who had to sacrifice a second term in order to give Bill Clinton an assist on fixing economy which tanked because of Reagan's policies. Also, you sound like an idiot when you try to link Mao and Stalin to the left, quit watching Glenn Beck, you're smarter than that.
thisisntme 1 year ago
@thisisntme Bush the 1st and Clinton both deserve some credit as do their congresses. Clinton was lucky in many respects that his presidency occurred during the Internet bubble which bursts towards the begining of Bush 2's 1st term.
As for Mao, look up Anita Dunn, one of her favorite political figures is Mao. Anita Dunn, like many of these modern radicals was of course hired by Obama for his administration.
thegoodlocust 1 year ago
@thegoodlocust I know what you're referring to with Anita Dunn and you are misconstruing it. Dunn is not the first person to quote Mao or endorse one of his ideas, and she won't be the last. Besides that, you're painting the left with a broad brush. And when you do that, you lose people and it turns into a partisan fight. Finally, what Bush 43 did was make a bad situation worse with his policies, wars, and cronyism. He had an opportunity to build this nation after 9/11 and he blew it.
thisisntme 1 year ago
@thisisntme I'm not misconstruing anything. She said Mao was one of her favorite political philosophers. He is a mass murdrer. She is just one of many radicals Obama hired for his admin because he is a radical. If you don't know what I'm talking about then look her up.
Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of Bush 2 either, but I don't have an irrational hate of the man either unlike so many that are brainwashed by the media.
thegoodlocust 1 year ago
@thegoodlocust Dude, stop with the Glenn Beck nonsense. She was talking to graduating students about following their path, and she said admired Mao and Mother Theresa for the "follow your path" philosophy, not because he killed people. And please tell me how Obama is a radical? Nothing about him says radical, that is just another caricature made up by the Glenn Becks, Rush Limbaughs, Fux News, and tea drinker crowd.

Reagan's homophobia KILLED americans, their blood wrote that history literally
sleekcartim 1 year ago
@sleekcartim The disease has been around for 100's of years. As I said they didn't even have the term HIV until 1986. i feel sorry for the people who get HIV, but the vast majority of them got it because they didn't practice safe sex. The fact is that a lot of gay men are really promiscuous and anal sex is inherently a very unsafe practice. So yeah, I feel bad for them, just like I feel bad for drunk drivers who get killed in accidents, but I also realize there is a personal element too.

@sleekcartim Republicans have plenty of good ideas; democrats have plenty of bad ideas, which makes "obstructionism" essential when they are in power. Both parties have serious issues, but the democratic party is a greater slave to special interests at the expense of the country as a whole.
The best political philosophy with the best ideas (as shown by history) is Libertarianism, but they don't play simplistic games of identity politics like the two main parties abuse in order to gain power.
thegoodlocust 1 year ago
@thegoodlocust Dude, the Repubs haven't had an original idea in 30 years. So if you think the Dems have bad ideas, I say bad ideas are better than no ideas at all. Also, I reject the notion that only one philosophy works in politics, Libertarianism is good in instances, but not in others. There is a reason for child labor laws and the FDA.
thisisntme 1 year ago
@thisisntme You think bad ideas are better than no ideas? That is illogical. If the question is "what do you want to do tonight?" and someone says, "Jump off a bridge" just because I don't have an idea doesn't mean jumping off the bridge is better than no idea. Anyway, all the progressive ideas have been around and implemented for over a 100 years and the results are usually failure, death or bankruptcy.

@sleekcartim My "alternate universe?" I guess I just know history better than you do. Progressivism has been around for quite a while and has failed spectacularly where it has been implemented. @WKaliberr socialism fails. It starts to break down with numbers more than 200-ish people. It only works with small numbers, like small tribal communities. There's a reason Socialist countries are generally fairly poor, and eventually fall apart. most of the socialist countries out there now only manage to get by because they are financially propped up by capitalist governments.
nate556 1 year ago
@nate556 Socialism paired up with Capitalism is a good system. Capitalism on its own fails because it neglects too many people. Socialism is also not a perfect system on its own. This is why countries like Poland have such a booming economy while still having universal health care and a good education system. Capitalism is dangerous if you let it run wild. It needs to be held in check by some socialistic ideas.

@MarkyBlueyes Sorry but congress on average voted for a SMALLER budget than Reagan request. Remember the president writes the budget. The sleight of hand is yours. vearheart42 1 year ago
@EMPIREofPUPPETS
LibertaerUeberAlles 1 year ago
@LibertaerUeberAlles The surplus they always talked about on the news back in the 90's was a budget surplus. A budget surplus is when you spend less than what was budgeted. What a lot people don't realize is the government budget is always larger than the government's income. Look at the public debt under Clinton it increase. They spent less than planned (budgeted) but more than their income thus went further in to debt. Words are important, "budget surplus" and "surplus" are different things.

I remember that stuff lol .. Crazy spenders .

@SUPerFreakUsa There is absolutely no medical evidence to support that claim. but then again, this whole video falls pretty short on evidence in context. Reagan slashed taxes on the rich big time. The top tax bracket paid around 70% income tax for most of the 20th century. Reagan slashed that to 50% as soon as he took office and by the end of his reign had dropped it to around 30%.

Like Bush, Reagan made the fundamental error of thinking that reducing tax income would force spending cuts.
thegoodlocust 1 year ago
@thegoodlocust
On the contrary, lowering personal income taxes was actually a good thing, since high income taxes generally support oligarchy. That's why so many billionaires vote Democrat.
LibertaerUeberAlles 1 year ago
@LibertaerUeberAlles Oh no, I actually liked his stance on taxes. The government spends way too much, but Reagan and Bush thought they could starve the beast and eventually force spending cuts. They were both certainly flawed when it came to spending - Reagan spent money to collapse the USSR while Bush thought he could bring democracy to the Middle East. I personally think a non-interventionist policy would've been preferable, cheaper and it would've set a better precedent on spending.

TimeWarp66 1 year ago
I'm always skeptical when people say "he lowered taxes then raised them 11 times." Because if you lower taxes by 100 and then raise them by 1 eleven times... you still lowered them.
But IDK. Seems like funny math to me. Why don't you just say "he lowered taxes by X and he raised taxes by Y" and then we can see which is bigger? Why the games?
LoklarYsera 1 year ago 2
@LoklarYsera You make a good point. However, the issue is not as simple as lowered taxes by X and raised them by Y. Because the fact is that he lowered taxes more for one specific group, and raised them more for another. Gee, I wonder which group made out the best.
