@JohnQ1127 I think Popeye and Pals was taped in the afternoons (probably in between the noon and 5:00 newscasts with the late Bill Elder), and the Popeye's fried chicken was pretty much their lunch. Today, you would be fed Subway sandwiches.
@JohnQ1127 I know it seems that way. By modern day standards, yeah, it would be hella funny. However, back in the day, I would watch it every Saturday and beg my parents to take me to the show. They'd play cartoons, then hand out the chicken and go around the audience. Brings back a lot of memories. :)
Nice guy greg. The early years.

When I was on this show in like 1977, you got Burger King, Pepsi, and Haydels cake. The host was Don Westbrook I think.

@JohnQ1127 Don't hate, player. This was the BOMB back in the day. You just don't know how many kids WISH they could be on that show. Seriously.

@madskillzdotcom,
I'm from the New York area so I've never even seen this show before it was on Youtube.
It really looks like such a bizarre show.
I actually thought this was some kind of spoof or something.

It's too obvious...Popeye's Chicken sponsoring Popeye cartoons.
I thought this kind of sponsorship tie-in was outlawed by the 1980s.

I wish I could find earlier footage of the show! My brother and I were on it between 1970 and 1972.
