There is no god to ask such questions. it's all fabricated nonsense--made up by primitive regimes to seize control of your mind and establish theocracy.
Is there more to life? We don't have all the answers but we're learning a little more and more each day. Evidence-based science and reasoned philosophy are helping us understand why we're here, how we got here (e.g. genetics & evolution) and how we can live better in society. Religion on the other hand makes the arrogant and unfounded claim that it knows the truth (yes, it does say that). Representatives of the alpha course have no privileged access to what a celestial supervisor might think.
That was unbelievably sexist, simplified and downright narrow-minded. I think they're extremely flawed to believe that this is the typical cycle of someone's life - the answer is yes, there is a hell of a lot more to life - culture, travel, the majority of people live their lives with passion, against the conveyer belt - you don't have to be a christian to unlock it.
Of course not. Heaven forbod they advertise too! THose filthy evil Christians have no right, I say no right, to try to peacefully convenceus of their message! Only everyone else has that right!
Now to go off and Reasd the God Delusion whilst I watch "An Inconveneint Truth"...
If there is more to life, then religion isn't going to be able to reveal it. It always make untestable statements then claims them as 'da truth'. I guess there are a lot of gullible people out there.
I would have liked it if some of the same sex toilet symbols fell in love with each other on that wheel. What would the alpha course do then? Death then Hell?
then why are you watching this, if it hurt's you? Besides there aren't any religious things in this clip, there's just the question - is there more to life? each person has got to find answer, because why else are you still living in this world!? Why do you think that it is something bad if this clip is made to make people THINK of their lives?
another sad scream out of religion to control more people without evidence and to think i thought this was a real cool thing for just people to talk about life but sadly with the poison of religion in it
I don't think it hurts to go on an alpha course, you can learn a lot. It doesn't say you have to become a christian at the end of it, but it can clear up some common preconceptions about christianity. I'd recommend it. Take some time to read books against and for christianity and make your own mind up. Some people grow up being hostile to christianity and don't try and make their own judgment by comparing the facts. Take a tolerant approach, don't be rude as you're attacking people's beliefs.
But it is Alpha that is hostile to atheism. Go to an alpha "course" and take the atheist position and see what happens. If you persist you will be isolated and not allowed to interact with the majority during group break out sessions and you will be given little or no opportunity to speak after the first week. If you are having an influential effect on others you may even be asked to leave.
What lurks behind the seemingly moderate window dressing of the Alpha course is a full blown program of Christian indoctrination and not any sort of moderate Christianity but a real odious brand of fundamentalism. Beware. Agnostics and fence sitters are mostly targeted as they are much easier to indoctrinate.
please actually read the Bible before attacking it. You plainly haven't, and if you try to tell me you have, I quite frankly won't believe you since you show absolutely no understanding of it whatsoever. Perhaps you heard this information from someone like Richard Dawkins maybe? And, being the bright spark you are, didn't bother to check out or research the information properly yourself...

I love this video, it first got me seriously thinking about my life and helped me to see the fruitlessness of it all at the time. And to boot, I've just found out that I know the guy who made it!
One of the problems with scriptures,is that many people interpret them so literally, not to mention the fact that certain important volumes such as the gospel of thomas, which describes, deeper esoteric knowledge, necessary for true understanding. For example if one observes there situation and realises that the world and the universe are inside their real self ,there would be no more fear of having to worship seperate heros because everything is then seen in a new context. watch tony parsons on here
Yes there is more to life than believing this ridiculous story about a god who kills his son, because of crimes his son didn't commit. But he rose again, so that's ok then. U can live forever 2 if u believe in this fairy story. It's all found in the best seller called the bible written mainly by anonymous writers, it tells the story of a jealous vengeful god who is racist and misoneist and loves the smell of burning flesh and encourages rape and murder. Warning do not take the book seriously.
This advert continues to interest me, because it shows how Christians trivialise the processes of a natural human life. Life for the atheist is not some monotonous treadmill leading to death, but a vibrant and enjoyable experience that should be celebrated in its cosmic significance. I think it also shows the underlying fear Christians have for the fact that they want to feel more significant than just living and dying.
I'm happy just being human and the rollercoaster it inevitably becomes.
i have experienced life wiothout God and it is monotonous, hard and incredibly dull. you may think your life is exciting, but you haven't had God in it yet. This is what many people forget about christianity, we believe in a God who invented excitement! he knows what its like to be bored and he's got a plan for us. also, that rollercoaster you're on, sometimes ypou may be alone, but i know i'll never be alone because God will always be with me, and thats something you'll never know.
Exactly. Very patronising view of life for the rest of us. A similar advert could contain the Christian life of boring talk after cheesy song after guilt trip conference, whilst the enjoyment of life passes by. Would they like that? Plus, if Christianity is so great, why are Christian bookshops crammed with self-help books for the screwed up Christian?? Not quite the answer they claim it to be. Though, they'd never admit it. Once trapped in it, they need the self delusion to continue.
I set this video to accept comments 'pending approval'. This enables me to ensure that there is no abusive language in the comments before they are published. I allow all comments, including those that are negative and critical about this video (see those approved!) as long as they are not abusive. Cheers, Mark.

so you don't think that this video and indeed, the bible project philosophy? the bible would a great book for kids to learn a generally humanistic moral code, if it were not so long and at some points boring. it is a very interesting book on the whole, but NOT a true story. I'll be interested to see if archaeologists discovered an ancient snake with a human larynx.
I do feel that there is more to life than the things mentioned in the advert (drinking, shopping, etc). Does that mean you need Jesus? No. I am an atheist and I believe that there are problems in society. This does not mean religion is the answer; religion only makes things WORSE.
It doesn't make things worse, depends on what you mean, if u have this attitude that religion is responsible for all the wars and the hardships in the world then u have the same type of mentality as Mel Gibson. Christianity as i know it is all about love, kindness, compasion, charity and grace, there are no aspects of it that have been damaging to me. How does religion make things worse?
Why do the non-believers use the term "X-ian"? Are they afraid of the name of Christ? Also, their negative comments appear to be ill-researched. Try the Alpha course if you have so many questions about life & true faith!
I have done the alpha course in my own local area.I think they are brainwashing young people with blind arrogance. The original message of scripture meant unconditional love.
Light that shines on everyone regardless of their orientation, but the alpha people in our area have rejected some people even on grounds of not being married. Now some of them are needing councelling because of feeling unworthy.Where is the unconditional love in that?
This is a horrible advert, as it trivialises human life. It also gives the hidden message that if you aren't part of the Christian faith you're just another unremarkable creature on a production-line headed for death. Keep your cynicism and your so-called faith.
The Alpha Course is doctrinally flawed and does not present the gospel of free grace received by faith alone in Christ alone. It is an ecumenical tool to bring Protestants back to the Harlot system of Romanism.
@trimjon The symbolism of Alpha from the Book of Revelation "Alpha to Omega" refers to a start state, with Jesus' Omega completion of pupillage as 100% omniscience. Look in Barcelona's Sagrada Familia for a symbol of the Alpha being the mirror image of Jesus Omega, the shape of His Resurrection cave mouth. The Alpha is, of course, the barred pyramid apartheid heresy, Isaiah2.2 bans it. The pyramid apex must be abstract higher order, of Trinity.
Conclusion: The Alpha Course must change its name.
encouraging believe in god is discouraging indepedendent thought by allocating all that is unknown about the universe to god, i don't understand the justification for the idea of explaining life through god.
i.e. we don't know how the universe was created so we simply allocate the answer to 'god' with no explanation. thoughts?
An interesting view, and I see your logic. However, many Christians who believe in God don't do so because they can't work out how the world began. They believe in God because of other prompts, such as their view on Jesus or they've had a spiritual awakening / enlightenment / miracle etc of some sort, or another reason.
This certainly is an engaging video, the problem is while it may, to some extent, encapsulate what young people may perceive to be a facile attitude towards life, it does nothing to encourage any independent thought. Yes there is more to life than this, there's a wealth of beauty, experience profound and otherwise to be enjoyed. There's science, literature, art and human relationships, none of which require a religion to be enjoyed.
As for the comment "christianity isn't a religion", I got news for you - IT IS!, not a 'relationship with Jesus' lol!, I think you'll find a Xian is someone that believes the whole bible to be the word of god. Typical 'moderate' wishy-washy cherry-picking. It's good that nowadays, in order to defend your religion you have to completely reframe what it is.
roots909 - You need to go on the Alpha Course mate - you might learn a thing or two... or are you chicken? ;-)
The thing is, I used to be an Atheist and I used the blind faith line as well...
...quite a lot. Now I run the Alpha Course in our small town. I've even met the bloke who created it - Nicky Gumble - nice man. Funny old world innit? May God Bless You!
You may well have seen peoples lives transformed through blind faith in a superbeing, you may well be able to provide us with useless, vague anecdote about non-xian friends being more closed minded but it's neither here nor there.
And it doesn't make xianity true either, I'm not concerned with whether it happens to be nice way of thinking for some people, I'm merely concerned with the truth claims.
I find this general message quite offensive. We are all so statistically improbable and lucky to be here in what can only be described as an amzing and fascinating world, that it is insulting to say 'is this all there is'. We should wonder at how amazing the world, cosmos and mysteries of science really are without having to resort to God and superstitions for something 'more'.
There's much more... but it's not to be found in christianity. Which itself, gives as much to life as just another few frames of that video. In fact as a christian you are more clearly on a conveyor belt, pushed to single minded approaches to life and the question of living. Religion is never an answer, just a diversion. Pass it by.
I can see where you're coming from, but the point of the Alpha Course is for people to explore the answers to their questions, and to explore what the views of others are as well. Also, Christianity isn't a religion. Christianity is a relationship with Jesus, which I think a lot of people don't realise.
...I don't think that Christians are taught to be single minded, in fact all of the Christians I know are the most open minded of all my friends. It's my non-christian friends who are most unnaccepting of something new, where as all of my Christian friend's are always willing to listen to one side of the argument and they never force upon people what they believe, they pretty much just say what they believe and if they don't believe that then that's cool. It's what works for you...
The problem with this kind of anecdotal evidence is that it can be immediately contradicted by someone arguing for the opposite case, who is backed up by equally flimsy experience. I would argue that while religion may appear to be a very comfortable and convenient 'answer' to those who subscribe to it, this derives more from a desire to avoid a situation where we simply have to accept our ignorance.
...Also, no offence, but by saying Religion is never an answer, just a diversion, you're being single-minded yourself. But yeah, I do see what you mean, I just don't really agree. But then everyone has their own beliefs I suppose. That's it. Aha! xxx
Not all of our curiosities can be satisfied and in constructing the pretense that they have been we only puspone any real endeavour to answer these questions.
It's an abstract picture of our lives from the cradle to the grave. It asks the question many of us ask,"is this it?, is their more to life?" Their is! Maybe they do alpha in your local area? I'm sure you would get a lot out of it!
It attempts to show that the 'average' person in the UK goes through the motions of life and dies but asks the question 'is there more to life?'. Christians believe that there is more to life than the 70 odd years you might get here and that life can be better now and can continue beyond death. I'll happily chat more about it if you like as I believe in God myself and see people's lives changed as a result of faith in God.
There is no god to ask such questions. it's all fabricated nonsense--made up by primitive regimes to seize control of your mind and establish theocracy.
