@totalepicwin Quite alot actually. Great Pyr's are much bigger than a samoyed and have a much different coat. Appearance wise samoyeds are fluffier, have pointy ears, and a curly tail. Their personalities are greatly different as well. I suggest you read up on both breeds to learn the differences. :)
@JohnnyBladeakos ayee they really are , and very very friendly so they are ,, :') umm mines a male and he loved to play even a bit waaay too much :L ? umm i thikn you should get it but ye needy give a lot of care for her/him , the hairs fall out wile alot thats why you needy brush it like 3 times a day ? :')
I do not use a book. The method for training I learned was called clicker training. There are lots of videos demonstrating how to use a clicker properly but I started by going to training classes locally with a great trainer. He taught us how to use the clicker the right way.
Be patient with you sammy and lots of training and love will need to be given :). Enjoy
is it hard to train this breed of dog? i'm getting one in a couple weeks and i've never really trained a dog before. i'm taking it to a training class but i'm still nervous!
@tAlYaH84 These dogs are very very smart and taking a training class is a great start. They are quick learners but they are also smart enough to know what they can get away with. They may cause some trouble if they arent exercised enough but they are fun and smart so keep the training classes up and keep up with the homework you have learned in class :-). Good luck with your new pup
@tAlYaH84 i had a Samoyed, main secret with my one and i think with most Samoyed is to make it fun they are very playful dogs, love to run around, jump and play, they are NEVER tired, so make it fun and it will be easy.
@WoogieWoos Thanks. Zero reminds me of mine looks alike, question how did you get him to sit & wait, that was the only thing mine wouldnt do, in fact if you asked him to sit still there was no chance of him doing it, he was super hyperactive wouldnt even lay still when sleeping. Anyway geat looking dog 1 of the best looking samoyeds, treasure your time with him, it's really precious. Onething about Samoyeds when they are gone they live a big void that cannot be filled
@K3n4ovs Zero was always really good at the sit stay. Maybe it is just a personality difference. It's harder for him to stay when i leave the room though. I will cherish every moment with him as I know that day will come when he is gone and it will crush my world. Thank you so much for the compliments, i always think he is gorgeous but I am his momma ;)
@WoogieWoos Thanks. I have a samoyed too. His name is Mate and he's 6 months old now. He likes to learn cool stuff too. Like, when I say Earthquake, he lays on the floor and hides his face. It's pretty funny :) But he has only learned half of the stuff Zero does. Still, I doubt I could find a better bestfriend. :D
@MoreThanUMoreThanMe I grew up with a Sammie. Had her from age 3 to 21. I picked her out when she was a pup. I had to put her down 14yrs ago as she was old, couldnt hold her functions anymore and couldnt climb a single stair. She was such an earth shattering friend, that all these years later I still think of her all the time!
@WoogieWoos Unfortunately we lost our girl just after Christmas due to illness. She was suffering alot so it was only fair on her she be put to sleep. It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. She died in my arms and I buried her in the forest they loved to walk in.
@hollysdad I'm so glad to hear you had 14 years with your sammy. Thank you for the comment. I'm very glad to share. My Zero is fantastic and I love him dearly, hoping for 14 years with my guy as well :)
Absolutely beautiful!!! I had a samoyed whose name was Wolfgang. He was amazing, I've never met a dog who was as sweet, intelligent, and beautiful as him. I understand that those are common characteristics of samoyeds. I miss him so much and it's been about 8 years since he's passed.
@ianborn Thank you for the wonderful comment! This breed is amazing. I bet even though 8 years has passed, it's just like yesterday you had him. I will enjoy every second of Zero's life.
I am impressed! You two seem to have a very strong bond, and that's kind of rare nowadays! These look like great dogs, and I was planning to get one of my own. By the way, how long have you had Zero?
@Kirbylinkmix Thank you for your kind comment! I have had Zero for almost 3 years now (his birthday 3rd is on August 24th). I'm blessed to share my life with him and my other dog Holden. I adore both of them and live for them!!
Wow! I have come across many Sammies and Huskies and while they all seem very intelligent and quick learners, they generally have a mind of their own. Yours is very very obedient though! Very impressed!
@d63sx5 Thank you very much. I made a recent video of him as well with newer stuff. He's my little angel and I love him very much. Such a smart obedient dog! Thanks for the comment. Have a great day :-)
@Dezzieatwell Thank you from both of us! Patience indeed was a great factor. He has learned so much more since this video even and i adore him. Great breed and a fantastic companion.
How did you manage to train him? I have a 10 moths Samoyed and he knows some orders but if I let go the lace he goes crazy, for me has been very diffcult to teach him things... :(
@MrSlashdave I put my dog and myself into training classes (clicker training) right away. He responds great to the clicker. Also I excersize my dogs for about 2 hours every day which in turn keeps his energy levels at a lower pace that way he can really focus with me when we train.
Even though my dog is 2.5 years old we still train new things and refresh old things. It's a never ending process but I love every second of it.
WoW...Your Puppy is sooo well behaved n beautiful. I have a 3 yr old small Samoyed, Piper. She is a BRAT!!! Huge heart but hates commands...Honest. She shakes her had and groans when I ask her to sit, n av to repeat myself numerous times to get her to listen. I thought it was normal for their breed to be disobedient but I must say you have proved most books n myself wrong...Any tips...I just taught her to lie down the other day so she is still learning!!!
@VanessaCooneyMusic All i can say is patience and the CLICKER it's an amazing tool and i wouldnt have such a well behaved dog if I didnt :) thank you for your wonderful comment
Hi! I just subscribed to you! Your dog Zero is so awesome! I have two Samoyeds, Blizzard and Klondike. They are 8 months old and so far, I have taught them "look" and "sit". I would love to have them be as well behaved as your dog. Do you have any advice? Would you ever consider making videos showing how you train? I really enjoyed watching and will check back again soon!
Thank you so much for subscribing! I have had a few people ask how I have done my training with Zero. I will post a video soon of my training techniques. It's done with a clicker.
Thank you! He is now a year older since this video and he knows more. I really should do a new video. He is such a smart boy but it takes alot of time and devotion to it. I currently have a 7 month berner pup so I do training with him and i do special training with my Sammy Zero. He's my world!!

I hope you know what you are getting into. Samoyeds require a ton of attention. They are wonderful dogs, but it takes an exceptional owner to be a good owner with them.

Your Sammy is so well behaved! Mine is the same - not well behaved (yet) - he'll only do something if he knows he's getting a treat! I think I'm going to work on "spin" with mine next.
Sams r amazing. Hardy the puppy knows about 30 word commands n 6 hand (silent) commands. I think that boy Sams will do anything for food until they meet their first female in heat and then it's all over.... no more food rewards... have to get them dates. Actually sounds a lot like my me when I was young :)
well he is 1 year and a half and he has learned all those tricks in that time frame and every day we are working on new ones. He has learned 2 more since that video was made last week so with positive reinforcement he can learn a new trick in one day and I have to continue repeating that trick for the next week or 2 after to make it solid

@WoogieWoos Thanks a lot for the reply!
I live in Finland and don´t know about any trainers around. But I´ll surely take a look at some videos.
I´ve heard about the clicker method and even saw some in the local pet shop.
Well, thanks again and congratulations with Zero!
