I agree Thechamp.... During our production we had about 250 students over 25 Scene changes that conveed the whole stage.. A trap door under the stage that resembled a sewer they then ended up in a HUGE SEWER the whole size of the stage.. There was dry ice Fog coming from pipes... It was awesome!!!! i will post a video when i get the movie...e,,,
First off your missing some stuff that's mentioned in the script. 1. Crap shooter sitting on a pipe up R. 2. Harry the Horse and a Crap Shooter are standing on a platform Right Center Upstage. 3. Two crap shooters hanging on a ladder upstage C. Watching dance. Another platform up Left Center. And none of them were wearing their red carnations. That's all from the original Broadway script.
Do you really think that those elements detract from the actual intent of the scene?.... With budget constraints you have to make the most of what you have. Thanks for your advice though, in 99% of the show we maintained the original intent of the script.
@onigiriponystaar After taking another listen after two years, I still think that the orchestra could have used a day or two to practice. Overall it wasn't completely horrible, but around 3:20 the brass section just sounds like noise to me. Perhaps it's the recording. . .
we have about 11 males and 5 girls in crapshooters our show is better than anyone else who performed this musical of guys and dolls everyone fits there part and its just AMAZING we win go BCHS!!!!!! we have opening night tonight
If I had the guys, who were good enough, they would have been on stage. I'm all for a strong male chorus but sometimes you gotta make do with what you've got!
well, guys and dolls is particularly dance-heavy.... so poor choice from your school. The scene can be achieved with clever stage movement and acting, but it really just needs an awesome jazz number with about 12-15 crapshooters. It's one of broadway's proudest moments! (up there with the Jellicle Ball from Cats)

@xLiLxHaHax Actually, my first impression was that it was pretty strong. The trumpet/low brass/percussion is particularly nice.

Are there girls in this crapshooters dance?
jus400track 2 years ago
There is. We didn't have 16 dancing males available at the standard that the choreographer required.... It made for a better number, believe me

You're right.. Men aren't flexible ...I just don't know why.

we're doing this soon at school and we probably won't be able to pull this off as there aren't that many good guy dancers...

use girls, and pull back their hair. Just make sure they dance masculine. No flexed wrists or hips. ;-)
And who said there weren't at least some female crapshooters in the 1950s ;-)

lol
thanks! trouble is, most of our school is actors and singers.... :?
