  • Now you have also original Sharp x68000 version of this game :P

  • Awesome layers of scrolling just like the Sharp!

  • Will this play in a US playstation 1 ?

  • I got for around 50 bucks sealed. Japanese version of course.

  • this game looks so friggin good, damn. graphics never needed to get better then this!!

  • Yes, this is the one from the Playstation Store. It was only $20 new when it first came out. It would be a ripoff to pay more than that for a physical copy, so if you don't want to pay that much, the Playstation Store version should be fine. Plus, you can play the game on your PS3 or PSP.

  • I had and most likely still have it for my playstation but the uk version.

  • Man I love me some Castlevania but I have never played this version. Is this the same version that is on the PSN store?

  • @MrTechnoSqueek

    Yes it is :3

  • Are you JAPANESE?

  • wow thank you very much! I'm a big CV fan, and I didn't have this game... Now I'm looking for it!

  • I liked this Castlevania, not my favourite one, but it IS fun :D

  • you can get it on ps3 for $ 5.00

  • How the hell your Playstation still works after all these years?I bought three Playstation 1`s and they all broke.

  • where the hell is poison mind! UGH

  • Wow that is some excellent music.

  • Man, Original mode on this game was so brutal!! It was hard man, HAHA. I love the design of Simon on Arrange mode. Classic game for sure, great vid as always.

  • Man the Playstation had some great games.

  • Got a copy a few months back, and loving it

  • haha at the end... it's Skeleton Ridley!

  • psx :) omg... so much nostalgia... started with the nes and snes but did not bother to play them that much. With the psx I started to game hardcore :P

  • I got this off the Playstation network, I didn't know what it was aside from it being a Castlevania game, kinda disappointed me at first that it was a remake of the first game, its grown on me since.

  • Castlevania IV would have to be the best simply because of all the directions you can hit. However this game still looks amazing.

  • Holy crap. I hadn't heard the start up sound of the PS1 for like ten years. Got goose bumps all over my arms from hearing it.

  • cool game

  • the graphics are really nice for a game over 20 years old! colors are awesome too. love the shading and the parallax in the background. there are enemies outside the castle! nice effect :D

  • 50 bucks in Japanese still sounds like a lot. I had the 64 instead of the PS1 and there arent many really rare titles in the 64 library. The PS1 games however that are good can also be rare and I'm forced to spend loads of money trying to pick up all these classics when I could have bought them earlier with more ease.

I like my 64, but I think I made the wrong purchase back in 1996.

  • I have never played castlevania, ever. it just never appealed to me but maybe I should give it a try.

  • @tripdeezy Yeah I'm not too into Castlevania myself, so dont feel alone lol.

  • swwweeeeeet.....

  • god damn he whippin that whip hard.lol sweet

  • I don't like the key change in the music.

  • @shaurz There's regular and remixed versions in the options.

  • Dude that's awesome

  • Can you whip in all 8 directions like in Castlevania 4?

  • Awesome it is like a enhanced remake but better and tougher A.I. added soundtrack and newer levels. Appreciate the new video.

  • Dude that's awesome. Never heard of this one before. Then again it was only on a Sharp PC in Japan and I assume the PS port is only in Japan too?

  • Makes me think of Runescape.

  • Holy crap....the sound on this game is AWESOME!!! I don't think any other Castlevania game has such awesome sound (the music is great, the sound effects are great as well, and so are the graphics!)

  • Oh, what'd I'd do for an x68000 with a handful of games... The sound hardware in that thing is just grrrreat.

  • victory in the end! great!

also, fast paced scene with the water level rising there, almost didn't look like a castlevania game, looked much more like a treasure game, you know?

  • when you use you roland gs mode the some of the music plays more parts

  • I'm loving the sound of the music and effects. I only like the traditional Castlevania style, not Metroidvania stuff. I'll be buying this. Thanks for showing it, Luke.

  • One of my fav Castlevania games. Like you said...a must in the a CV fans collection.

  • I got this game off the PSN. Probably will not be getting the disc version. This is truly an amazing game. Challenging but that is what makes it fun to play.

  • o god this game this is one of THE most hardest games i have ever palyed

  • The Japanese PSX disc suffers from some bad stuttering audio issues in later levels. If you're seeking this game out for play rather than collecting, you want the bugfixed US version. This game is REALLY tough, and something about the character sprite being so large always put me off. Still, great game, great soundtrack. I do wish Konami would have ported Nemesis '90 from the X68000 instead.

  • @orangeActiondotcom I just got nemesis = nightmare

  • oh yes i love this game i have it in fact i have 2 lol awesome luke and thanks for sharing now i have to go did this bad boy out now i want to play it lol cheers bro talk to you later my friend cya and a huge thumbs up as always

  • Love the Castlevania series, from the challenges, character and great level design from '86 onwards. Would imagine if any original concept art reached Ebay it'd cost a fair load! Really enjoyed this insight mate, do you know how much the original Sharp x68000 version goes for? can't imagine it'll be cheap though! :)

  • Top game and very good show!!

  • im So glad i still have my original copy so i don't have to worry.

  • I dont know if it just me...but I prefer the original opening to the Playstation one.

May have to find a copy of this...the soundtrack is the best part. ^_^

  • This reminds me a lot of Super Castlevania 4 on the Super Nintendo. Im definately going to find a copy of this for the PS1. And you got to love the soundtracks for the castlevania games, they are so awesome <3

  • That was a great way to end it!

  • Great game, I should look into it!

  • Thanks so much for the videos coming out! You always make my day :D

  • Pop that in and play some of that!

  • I'm so intrested in castlevania right now, lol.

  • i did a walkthrough on this game like a week ago in beat the game and must say darcula is a bitch

  • For US viewers it is available on PSN if you have a PS3 for much less than a CIB copy for PS1 goes for.

  • Excellent review Luke! I'm really happy to see you putting out lots of reviews again :)

  • AHHH, that start up screen reminds me of so many great memories.

  • this game looks like a lot of fun

  • Yeah, this is an excellent game. 'Let's Pop that in and play some of that' - good to hear that sentence spoken again! LOL

  • @markvergeer i was about to say the same thing when i saw your comment, havn't heard that for some time lol!

  • The main character looks straight out of Legendary Axe for PC Engine. :)

  • I remember been psyched for this when it got announced and I bought it the day of release :D

  • This was a very over looked game. A nice classic to the series.

  • Great timing :p

  • Castlevania FTW!

  • i got it on psn such a fantastic game

  • was kind of upset at first, but then I seen the second stage which kind of looked like the end of four and the idea of the second boss being a dragon is awesome, very cool game.

  • i have this..i must pop it in again!

  • I remember getting this game on the psx over here in the states. When I went to pick up my preorder at eb games, There were only two people who had preordered. The game was incredibly overlooked (at least in my area). I still have it (really cool game).

  • Awesome gameplay luke,i forgot about this title i should pick it up.Castlevania rocks!!

  • Awesome stuff luke. I still haven't played any of the Castlevania games. I've gotta find one.

  • Awesome vid Luke,

Game look Great, Just bought a Copy, thanks for the review.

  • You can buy this for few bucks if you decide to buy it from PSN :)

  • Looks great. Can you whip diagonally?

  • The music is much better than the NES/Famicom Port.

  • very nice have to find it !

  • Nice one

  • Luke, You are Awesome! :)

  • castlevania is such a great game!

  • I'd love a copy of that to go with my Symphony of the night. another great video man keep it up =]

  • Still have my CV SOTN UK Collectors edition here, love it. However I would have to say that CV IV on the SNES is my fave.

  • @LeShark75

    can i have it ? =)

  • The one thing this game had was a fantastic soundtrack, however I must admit, I've always preferred the OPM/MSM soundtrack over the MIDI-based outputs, it just gives the game an extra feel of originality. That said, the PS1 version does a good job, and it is one of the all-time best Castlevania games.

  • great vid

  • Heheh, nice timing.

  • I actually don't have this. It looks great though so maybe I'll pick it up.

  • is it possible too find a rom for this?

  • Man Castlevania is one series that I have tried to get into but I just can't for some reason. I don't hate the games by any means. I guess they just don't scratch my gaming itch xD

  • Any game that references Bloodlines is a-ok in my book! ;)

No, but. This game is really fantastic, all the way through. If I dont remember this all wrong, the japanese version lets you set what sort of soundchip you want the music processed by, since the sharp had quite a few o them over the years. Think the US and PAL have it as well, but "hidden"

  • Cool stuff man!

Always great to see a new gameplay video of yours.

Say, can you show us the original Vampire Killer for the FDS sometime?

  • I loved this game so much when i had it.

    Absolutely classic!

  • Ahh I hope to get that game one day. Great video Luke.

  • Hi Luke are there any converters for ps1? so i can play Japanese & PAL games on my us version....& will the pocketstation work on the us ps1?

  • You almost didn't make it at the end there. Well done!

  • Man the music for that game kicks ass!

  • このX68000 versionのアレンジが一番好きです。Great soundtrack !

  • You can get this for $10 on the PS3 store. =D

  • Ahh luke that is awesome. Wish I could get my hands on the hardcopy, I have it downloaded from playstation network though which is cool

  • That whip sound is awesome.

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOOOOVE CASTLEVANIA
