It looks like jmn120176 doesn't even know what the issue is about. The Republicans stood in the way of a substantial health care bill for health victims of 9/11. A few Dems voted against it, a few Conservatives for it, but it wouldn't pass because it needed a 2/3 majority. So most Republicans tried to hide behind not voting so that their names couldn't be attached to such an atrocious "nay" vote but, true to form, they still voted to accomplish nothing, this time against our 9/11 heroes.
Why do people believe that the Reps only wanted to add amendments to prevent illegal imigrants from receiving compensation? Makes no sense. From what I understand, the Dems was trying to prevent the typical stall tactic that would have been used under the normal procedures. The Reps would have tried to add amendments to water the bill down and then vote no anyway.

There are in fact multiple programs already in existence to provide these services. Of particular concern for both parties regarding this bill was the exclusinon of rep input through the ammendment proccess. Dem felt this exclusion was worth not passing the bill and Reps felt this exclusion was worth not voting for it.

OUR government (the Bush Admin. at the time) told people it was safe for them to come down to Ground Zero and help out, now that those people are dying from mysterious illnesses, it is OUR gov's RESPONSIBILITY to help THEM. If this cause is so important to you, then you should be at least equally upset at the dems and the current admin for their inaction over the past couple of years. From what I can tell the ammendments that reps wanted were fairly harmless. Basically they wanted this bill to be paid for through the existing Obamacare budget or via unspent stimulus (which there is a lot of still). That and an ammendment preventing illegal aliens from participating.

There were 414 representatives there. 2/3s of 414 is 276. There were 247 Dems and 167 Republicans there. So even if every Democrat voted yes, they still needed 29 Republican votes. 243 Democrats and 12 Republicans voted Yes. 4 Democrats and 155 Republicans voted No. The bill lost 255-159.

It was never about immigration. The bill was designed to help ANYONE, regardless of immigration status, who is having health problems as a result of being a first responder at the attack site. The Republicans wanted something tacked onto it saying that illegal immigrants be barred from being included - which is an assinine reason. I mean how many illegals are we talking about here? A few Dems voted against it, a few Conservatives for it, but it wouldn't pass because it needed a 2/3 majority. From what I understand, the Dems was trying to prevent the typical stall tactic that would have been used under the normal procedures. The Reps would have tried to add amendments to water the bill down and then vote no anyway.

There are in fact multiple programs already in existence to provide these services. Of particular concern for both parties regarding this bill was the exclusinon of rep input through the ammendment proccess. Dem felt this exclusion was worth not passing the bill and Reps felt this exclusion was worth not voting for it.

OUR government (the Bush Admin. at the time) told people it was safe for them to come down to Ground Zero and help out, now that those people are dying from mysterious illnesses, it is OUR gov's RESPONSIBILITY to help THEM. Simply put, the republicans choose not to vote to help them (I don't care for what POLITICAL reason).

From what I can tell the ammendments that reps wanted were fairly harmless. Basically they wanted this bill to be paid for through the existing Obamacare budget or via unspent stimulus (which there is a lot of still). That and an ammendment preventing illegal aliens from participating.

Then the dow went back to normal and we had a record consistency of job growth under bush and the republicans. Then the next recession happened and the dow plunged again. The rich are the ones who create the jobs and pay the taxes. When you tax something, you get less of it. The rich already pay more than their fair share of proportionate taxes. If you increase the tax burden on them, they must do one of two things: relocate out of the country or cut jobs. Increased taxes will lead to increased unemployment.

Republicans added the amendment to the first responders bill that would not allow compensation for first responders that were illegal immigrants. Thats what Rush is incorrectly referring to as "an immigration reform ah buh amendment, I think".This is all a load of BS propaganda.

All the Republicans voted no and blamed the other party for the failure of the bill to pass because why? according to the bs you can hear at :52 to 1:02 the Democrats cannot stop the Republicans from killing the bill. Does this make sense? The answer is no because you cannot vote no to a bill and blame the other party for the failure of the bill passing. It doesn't make sense. Democrats have a solid majority in the house and 1 vote short of a fillibuster proof majority in the Senate. (they had it through Obama's first year) That is as much power as any one party has had in a long long time. The truth is that Obama wielded more power than any other president in the last 30 years and has FAILED.. horribly. The economy is in taters and our debt is overflowing. He is about to lose a lot of that power come November. Facts are your friend.

@jamesp6282 You're ignorant to the "facts" you keep talking about. This bill was brought up under a suspended vote, that means they needed 2/3 majority to pass the bill. There were 414 representatives there. 2/3s of 414 is 276. There were 247 Dems and 167 Republicans there. So even if every Democrat voted yes, they still needed 29 Republican votes. 243 Democrats and 12 Republicans voted Yes. 4 Democrats and 155 Republicans voted No. The bill lost 255-159.

@jamesp6282 You don't make any sense. The Republicans voted no. This no vote is very much a reason why the bill didn't pass. This no vote of the Republicans cannot be ignored. This no vote of Republicans contributes to the failure of the bill passing. The blame cannot be put entirely on the shoulders of the Democratic Party. Rush and you make no sense.

Actually the dems bear a great majority of the blame. They suspended the rules to prevent repubilcan ammendments. This cost them rep votes and raised the vote requirement for passaged from a simple majority to 2/3 which they did not have.

@ihmen Might I but in for a sec? The reason as to why California is collapsing is because the majority of the state voted for a actor to be governor. Arnold has no political experience prior than being governor. He spends money left and right on funding the state never needed. I'm not saying he's completely in charge of all the decisions, but things seemed to start to go down hill after he was put in office. Also, I live in a conservative state, but were one of the worst states off.

Class Act that he is. At least when he went for hearing tests those dr.s picked up on why he was losing his hearing & he had to come clean for the drug tests that followed.
