@jingenoske yes. they try to make all their engines very modifiable, plus the movements are just part of the game. look at the Quake Live training thing, it even shows you how to rocket jump and strafe jump and such.

There are very nice tutorials, training maps and training mods (extra hud elements) on the net. I tried it, and while I'm not *that* fast, I can be pretty fast myself. You *must* have your mouse set to absolute, and have *very* exact control over the movements you make, so you can use the bugs, thereby accelerating you. The tutorial videos (not on Youtube, but higher res!) will show you how.

It is a mod for quake 3 which contains maps specifically designed for player to travel through a lone as quickly as possible.

Strafe jumping, rocket jumping and plasma climbs are the three main things to learn.

Splash damage can be taken off.
