  • ***** JUST DRILL OUT THE CORD PLUG - If you do this you can reuse it no problem. *****

  • Yeah, pretty getto, could be much nicer.

  • Worked! Thx for the walkthrough.

  • Thanks!! This really helped!!

  • Ha, Ha! Too bad the Apple idiots didn't loop the wire inside or crimp the wire's insulation with the casing...like has been known for literally decades.

It's really amazing how dumb these "engineers" are that don't actually use anything or have any knowledge of proven methods as they slap crap together.

  • @Iggyocracy its just cheaper to slap crap it lol

  • lol don't be a dumbass

  • Thanks. Work perfect. Peace and grace !

  • Did that cable melt?!

  • haha a mac tutorial made on a windows movie maker ;)

  • Cheers man, all i needed to know was how to get into it, needed some serious power behind the pliers, perfect popped right open.

  • Thank you very much :) i just fixed mine... it came out way better than yours... but I cheated and asked an engineer to help me ;)

  • Dont be a dumass and unplug it first!

  • A magnet LOL it's a ferrite for RF protection....

  • I found some replacement cables on eBay...Only saw MB+MBP 13" listed, but its got the same plug as my '07 Macbook Pro 17" The standard little white plug...plugs straight in. 'Buy it Now' $20

My cord is shredded just before the magnet. The repair at that end looks like a pain...Don't the 4 pins get different voltages? 20 bucks for a new cable seems like the 'path of least resistance' to me. <-- Hey, an electronics joke! Sort of... :-)

  • Thanks, you saved my day.

  • Its not a black magnet, its a ferrite core to reduce RF.

I have repaird many power supplies with this fault, its much nicer if you do not cut the rubber grommet, once you have done the repair job, put a little dish-washing detergent on the cable to lubricate it and then slide the grommet over the cable, this will make the device look like new :).

  • Great job. I plan on soldering mine but whatever works!

  • And it worked! ta

  • Many tnanks!

  • Cool, absolutely cool! Just tried the prizing open method with pliers, worked a treat. THANKS!! Just need my replacement MagSafe connector/lead and off I go...

I added your vid to iFixIt so it'll help more peeps!

  • Thanks, worked here

  • hey, just wanna say thank you! I did it, yeaah!

  • God, great job!

  • Thanks a lot!! Yesterday I have exactly problem, and with your help I resolved it with no problems. Thanks a lot bro ;)

  • do the directions of the wire matter?!

  • Great vid. Sorry for others needing to cut case. Looks like they had fun though. A note on prying the case open at the ears. I had a little difficulty popping it open with the ears on. If the ears are carefully removed, the needle-nose pliers can go deeper into the brick and have more surface area to pry against. Do it on both sides. Case pops open a little easier. Thanks again mrbigbusiness1971

  • Thank you! It worked just fine...

  • Thank you very much! I've opened the case without breaking it! The other methods are just brute force. This is pure brain

  • Thks man! It really works. Helps me save money!

  • thank you 1000x! fixed GF's brick!

For those trying with older/newer/different models, the inside of mine was covered by copper sheets, pasted and soldered to the circuit board... so the wires have to be intact from the interruption point to the circuit, and long enough

  • thank you 1000x!

    fixed GF's brick!

  • Thanks. It works. Didn't have a glue gun or a zip tie so I used gaffer tape. Also wound gaffer tape round the start of the cable to stiffen it up a bit so hopefully it won't go in the same place again.

  • Thank you so much for your frontier knowledge, which may help save us wrecking the whole things. Cheers from Darryl and Chris, Australia.

  • Thanks for the great video. I can use my computer again without waiting to get another brick and saved some money too!

  • I concur, this video is the best around, please note that there are already cables available on ebay, complete from the magsafe connector through the soldered pins, no need to re utilize anything. I bought one and hope to install it per your tutorial.

  • Thank you for the guidance - saved me frustrations to open the box.

  • Thank's for the tu!torial - i'm one of the least gifted persons on earth with small parts and thin wires but i made it in less than ten minutes and it cost me 2 bucks including insulation tape and clip connectors.

My advice: spend 20 bucks at your local electronicss repair shop and have it done super-clean, that'll spare you buying a new PSU for 79€ ...

  • Well put together video!

  • I wish I watched this video first. I followed another video and using a dremmel I cut in too deep :( It's my fault but it would have been a better video if it had warned me.
