J'adore l'histoire, et ce p'tit film est vraiment pas mal ! Ca m'inspire beaucoup vu que je dois faire une "couverture" sur une nouvelle et j'ai choisie celle-là, merci beaucoup.
As an experimental interpretation of "The Outside" the first half of this is brilliant and effective. It lost its effectiveness for me near the end, but the beginning, with the view from ye narrator's point of view of climbing the castle wall and the opening of the trap door was superb. There are many interpretations of the story, different people see different things in it -- for me that's part of its allure.
As huge fan of the short story, I fail to see how this video is even related. The first thing it does is make the viewer aware that the main character is a monster. That was the twist at the end of the story! Beyond that, it's just some dark, disturbing sound and imagery.
It's more than that. Call it a reinterpretation or re-vision if you want. It's an auditory and visual textural experience from the main character's perspective. Original art in other words derived from the Lovecraft work.
I stand by my prior comment. The Lovecraft work was a superbly crafted narrative. Perhaps I miss some things since I can't read French, but I this is a non-narrative audiovisual piece. So, first, it's hard to compare with the original because it's a totally different genre. Second, it's as you said "derived" from the original. Like any sequel, it's unfair to compare the two because the later work could not exist without the original.
what do you mean at the end? They hinted that he wasn't human at the beginning. with the whole lack of mirrors and thus assuming that he looked, which seems like an odd thing to mention if he WAS, in fact, a normal person.
Awesome video. You obviously did a good job. Surely it's sort of surreal, but I guess that's what makes it interesting, and that sound fits the video excellently.

and btw, when exactly did it "make the viewer aware that the main character was a monster"?

I have yet to read The Outsider, but the imagery certainly feels like Lovecraft and the music is great.

I thought that the sudden inclusion of color, and then zooming in on the sky-scraper was a bit sudden and gave a slightly cartooney feel.
However, for the most part this is a very creative and evocative work. Very nicely done!

Commence donc par lire la nouvelle originale, avant de dire que c'est de la merde... Au contraire, il y'a du travail dans ce petit film.
