And AFIK they weren't even IN Abbey Road, it was a studio in Paris France that was used for the "Live at Pompeii" stuff that wasn't filmed in the actual amphitheatre... However as this was added 2 years after release, maybe this IS abbey road but it's still staged and not from the actual DSOTM Recording sessions...
The Eagle I think did land, but I do believe that evidence if it not occurring can be proven. Like those clips of the Eagle landing bon the moon, this images don't look real lime at 6:43 thats one small ship and one huge stage
I'm not entirely sure these are "staged", i know roger's synthesizer part is bogus, but i think this was in the finishing stages... ie. overdubs and such, here they obviously don't use this whole guitar part, but they use the little end flourishes from time to time.
@boonexy Nope... The whole of the Dark SIde recordings were complete and they were simply in mixing... ALL of the "studio in France segments" were done simply for this movie. Still one of the greatest music DVD's ever made aye. Floyd is like no other....
@4rescue no i understand and would tend to agree, but the France sections were live performances for the film, ie careful with that axe and such, but as for the rest, i'll have to go re-read that section in mason's book
@jnicothomas I agree, it's so beautiful the way the camera just drifts past Gilmour and all those keyboards as he adds those little notes. Just think, only a few years earlier, the Beatles might've been in that same room
I was not allowed to watch this until the guy that owned it got some gel tabs....it made no sense that night i think my girl and i were crying through most of it.......i love to see it not all sillied up nowdays and I can still remember most of that musical trip..GAME CHANGER.....he was right of course
@lucksantistaFC more like there will be a huge celebration of Darkside of the Moon, and i think you meant: and will anybody even remember Justin Bieber in 2 years?
You can tell Gilmour has passion for the guitar. That's how it was back then - about talent. The creativity and quality is just not there anymore in today's music. Everyone's after the 3 minute pop songs.
@LowRider1500 I was introduced to this back when I was 8. Floyd is so heavily ingrained in my personality that there's no hope of their music dying as long as I'm around.
"the only thing that's important is if it moves you....there's nothing else as important at all" roger waters - around the 2:30 mark. couldn't have said it better myself. no other band brings as much emotion with their music
The Pink Floyd looked pretty beast back then. Roger and David still being friends and the rest of the band being at their creative peak just makes this footage so much more worth while.
Man i wish they would have left this solo in the final cut of the song. It's so fucking awesome. I actually think of it everytime i here this song and wish it was there. I play it along in my head though.
What Waters says at about 2:30, that there is nothing as important as what moves you, is so right on. And Gilmour's guitar fills? Wow, such terrific stuff.
Roger Waters was the only one who approved/gave consent for "live at pompeii" to be released on DVD. I don't know why David,Rick,And Nick were against it, but thats just what I read. Thank You Roger
Musicians always bicker. It's about passion, not animosity. It wasn't until Wish You Were Here did things start to take a turn. And even then they were still working as a team. With Animals Roger started to dominate.
@5tonyvvvv OMFG!!! do you have to go on everything Pink Floyd related and repeat this ignorant statement? seriously, I ignored it the first 3 times I spotted it, but now it's just plain obnoxious. Leave Roger alone.
That was actually said by Pink Floyd's late manager Steve O'Rourke whom managed them from 1968 until his 2003 death. God rest his soul. Steve also managed the solo careers of David, Nick and Rick. He fell out with Roger in 1985 after CBS and EMI were pressuring Steve to get PF to do another record. Then Roger quit and proceeded to sue, David, Nick and Steve over the PF banner in 1986/87. Roger got all rights to Animals (save Dogs), The Wall (save the three DG co-penned tunes) and TFC.
I love Gilmore's comment. "Don't worry about that. Christ, where would Rock n Roll be without feedback?" He's such a great guitarist. An absolute master of his instrument
@theaxemeister hah, no he means its too loud for the amp. the guitar knob has to be always to the max when playing, but not in the amp; he must have turned his knob down in the guitar and someone must have changed it thinking it was too low, so when he took it, he realized it was louder than before
If that isnt the plain old truth. But after many years Ive begun to accept the notion that it was meant to be this way. Rogers got a chance of showcasing his solo work and Gilmour got to showcase his (under the pink floyd) still. I think the verdict clearly indicated that Gilmours work resonated with the fans more that Waters. And I hope that doesnt sound like Im taking too much away from Waters. They are both one of the worlds greatest musicians who just make it work better together.
Nobody really liked Roger the whole time. But tensions began to really rise around the whole "Animals" scene. So actually '76-'77. Please stop making yourself look dumb please.
@reioko I don't think that they all hated each other! It's that they had their own very different music and life orientations and well, Waters tried first to force his into the others, but failed and then left the band, which is quite sad... I like Gilmour a lot, but I think that the Floyd without Waters is lacking some depth... It would have been the best if they could have kept together, instead of following separate paths, but that isn't hate. They were angry at each other for a long time
This is great quality and so fascinating, I love these behind the scenes type of clips. Thanks you!
