  • You should make nitrocellulose a.k.a. guncotton

  • hi! how do you purify the tree stump remover to become just pottasium chlorate?

  • Comment removed

  • Or for the potassium nitrate example you could just note the explicit nitrogen dioxide and other NxOy's

  • Technically, its not only a sulfuric/chlorate mixture that will ignite sugar, even a sulfuric/permanganate mixture will.

  • LOL shortyjk95 just got pwned by the awesomest nerd on youtube. Good job NurdRage. =)

  • what stump remover has KClO3. i want to know

  • nurdrage is like the most awesome chemist on youtube

    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!=D

  • doesn't it just say what it is on the label?

  • the brown gas is Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) right?

  • @shortyjk95 Its painfully obvious you didn't watch the video, at no point do you ever use elemental sulfur. Don't complain about things that don't exist.

  • @shortyjk95 Sulfur is not equivalent to Sulfuric Acid.

  • @shortyjk95 You're mistaken, the problem isn't me being a nerd, It's you being a moron.

  • @NurdRage And We have a winner!!!!!!!

  • @NurdRage NurdRage, the ultimate troll

  • @NurdRage those comments completely made my day.

gotta love those trolls that fail.

but where exactly would you be able to get say.. 6M sulfuric acid???

  • @mikefx12 your best bet would be a car battery, but i believe the acid is only 3M.

  • @ThePickledsoul oh, cool beans, thanks lol :D

  • @mikefx12 U can try drain cleaners. I got my sulfuric acid from one. It is concentrated, but you can perform a simple titration to determine its concentration, and then dropper it into appropriate amounts of water to make acid which is 6M

  • @shortyjk95 Never try to argue with someone who knows more than you....You will always end up making a fool of yourself...

  • @shortyjk95 he is supposed to be a nerd hence the name nurdrage

  • @shortyjk95 you can get sulfuric acid at lowes it's the best Drain Cleaner you can ever use.

  • @killoger or a car battery

  • @MCDEVVOMAN that only about 35% Sulfuric Acid Drain Cleaner can be up to 85% to 90%

  • @shortyjk95 in fact if im correct i think nurdrage showed us in one of his videos how to make sulphuric acid? im not sure

  • It's a Hell-Turd!

  • if i burn pottassium nitrate diractly what reaction i see ?

  • @snipereye2000 It won't ignite at all, it's an oxidizer which means it needs fuel for ignition like a sugar.

  • @snipereye2000 KNO3 => KNO2 + O2

  • @snipereye2000 2KNO3-> 2KNO2 + O2

and the O2 help to burn the sugar.

  • Another way to check whats in the stump remover is to check the materials safety data sheet (MSDS). You can find that on the manufacturers website. Although looking at an MSDS isn't as cool as the methods shown in this video.

  • what is a good website to buy chemicals from? thanks!

  • Awesome video I bought a container of stump-out at my hardware store, trying to make rocket candy. It didn't list the ingredients, but I assumed it would be potassium nitrate. Upon melting while making my r-candy, really noxious fumes that smell quite acrid and cause your nose and lungs to close up are emitted. I have a hunch it's because it's a chlorate, as I cannot see a nitrate decomposing into anything that would give that smell. Anyone else have any similar experiences?

  • i wish all stump rermover was KClO3 then maybe there wouls still be "Nosalt" left at my grocery store (as every body only uses it for chemistry)

  • How does this remove stumps?

  • @MrStradMaster You drill a hole in the stump and pour one of the chemicals in, and then some water, so it soaks in. After a period of time (weeks-months) you then burn the stump, and if it's got oxidizer soaked in, it burns even below the ground into the roots, so the stump is really gone. I haven't done it with the metabisulfite, but my guess is the wood is decomposed so it rots or breaks up quickly. Digging a stump out is a real pain.

  • i need sodium metabisulfite.. to make sulfuric acid

  • will it have relatively pure chemicals in it? like if it was potassium nitrate, would it be pure or would it have other chemicals in it?

  • Hi Nurdrage!

I have watched alot of your nitrate videos and almost everyone of them

    have burned.

I have a question about magnesium nitrate and calsium nitrate.

Do these nitrates work for a substitue for potassium nitrate and do they

work as a ingredient to smokebomb :)?

  • my ice packs arn't as cold as they used to be.a counter agent that stop the product to do anything but cooling my wounds.the stuff in my ice pack is less good than a few previous ones.at first i wanted do make rockets.but now this just rdiculous, now i acctually need the damn thing and its just not cold enough to stop swelling.i checked inside to see if the stuff was brownish. The fucking thing is white.the agent that was brownish baej in the previous pack, the key to a decent cool reaction?

  • during the sodium metabisulfite and iodine reaction what happens chemically?

  • Good bye sidebar :(

  • when you where burning the potassium chlorate i saw a "tube" coming from the burnt chemicals.. is this how they make "glow worms" they are a firework and i was wondering if they would have these chemicals because they would seem a easier source

  • it made a poo XD

  • potassium ntrate confirmation means to me time to make black powder

  • Since everyone is talking about hydrogen peroxide. I thought I would ask a question. Since H2O2 has a colder freezing temperature than H20. Could you take a sample of 3% H2O2 to 0C and then use a chilled vacuum filter to filter it from a majority of the water crystals to make a more concentrated H2O2?

  • does sodium metabisufide kind of hurt your sinuses when you smell it, because i have a stump; remover with the brand 'stump out' from home depot

  • Comment removed

  • sulfuric acid must be concetrated?

  • cool

  • cool video but how do you dispose of the chemicals when you're done?

  • @panzuman mine was metabisulfate, and i hate it, i cant blow anything up. If it doesn't say on the package, its not KClO3, as that is actually one of the only "dangerous" ones. Don't be afraid to open the puppy up anyway either, no one will honestly care. (you cant tell by sight, but smell yes, if you've experienced them first hand.) btw k2s2o5 reacts violently with h2o2. Idk about the others. perchlorate might not because its also an oxidizer, but what do i know. i might try it later.

  • how often do stump remover contain kclo3? and what is the brand name?

  • lol, when he was a kid he must have been exposed to depleted uranium because his voice is so deep, 5/5 stars

  • 1) i thought it waz illegal for companys to use chlorate for this purpose andis it common if im wrong?

    2) the metabisulfate is its only purpose sulfuric or are there other uses?

  • where do we obtain hydrochlorich acid in sweden

  • pool shop

  • you make it! lol, jkjk just google it

  • where do you get the water? lol jk

  • does ur name really have lithium in it?

  • @howie094

...I was only trying to help, but I see how your answer is better. I'll remember that, next time I need 'cheap' HCl. Thank you.

  • can't find nitrate in new york

  • I hope I'm not sounding haughty, but I listed the metabisulfite as a popular stump remover on a nurdrage vid a little bit ago. Any chance I was involved in persuading you to make this video?

  • Could an OxiClean solution be used as a (more concentrated than 3%) hydrogen peroxide substitute?

  • @carambatsr

Oxiclean also contains sodium carbonate. So those reactions in which sodium carbonate would interfere cannot be substituted with oxiclean.

  • I thought Oxiclean was sodium percarbonate. That is, it generates hydrogen peroxide upon addition to water. That's how it bleaches clothes.

  • @pyropakman

It does, but that doesn't change the fact it has/produces sodium carbonate, a base. If you use it for reactions that require acids, or have purity requirements that can't accept sodium carbonate contamination then you can't use oxiclean.

  • you can get more concetrated H2O2 in beauty supply shops. they use it to 'bleach' hair.

  • next we will learn to extract urea from our piss.

  • thank you i like science class for today mr NurdRage!

  • wow..

  • Sweet :o

  • awesome NurdRage!

    i love your videos!!!

  • were can you get it?!

  • @ NurdRage:

could you please remove my comment which I asked you how to find out if the ice pack is made with sodium nitrate or ammonia? Cuz after that I chained a comment saying that Im unhappy that I cant find way to remove my tree stump cuz the the substance is not available here cuz gov think is too dangerous. But they dont care about drugs. Then, people start to flame and troll All over. Those replies became pointless and disturbing. So could you remove my Comment+the all those replies?

  • Some stump removers will list their active ingredients I just look for saltpeter or potassium nitrate as the active ingredient.

I use the stuff for rocket motors so KNO3 is the compound of interest.

  • I tried making sodium chlorate through electrolysis of saltwater, and I succeeded! I tested it by mixing it with sugar and burning it. It burned a bright yellow! :D

  • when are you going to show us how to purify U235? I have access to a 1M gravities centrifuge.

  • @4Dmetricology

Can't do any cool experiments with it.

Nuclear explosions have been done to death, I don't think we can do a better job than what's already out there.

So probably won't be doing anything like that.

  • He wouldn't be able to make enough U235 to do anything cool plus building a nuclear weapon would attract the kind of attention you don't want just watch the Manhattan project.

Though a basement fission reactor would be pretty cool if you could make it safe and not have the feds busting the door down.

  • Well..I think you guys are nuts as me. Thought for sure you'd say something else entirely. Besides, as I understand it, a 1M gravities centrifuge would take a very long time to produce the gradient required.

A basement breeder would be nice though.

Your channel is 6/5 in my books.

  • 5/5

  • Nother 5/5 for nurdrage. keep up the good vids!

  • Great video!! I've a stump remover that is composed by sodium chlorate (40%), but i can purify it by dissolving, filtering and evaporate. I've never seen potassium chlorate as a basic component, probably in italy there aren't =(

However you should make a video that shows how to make sodium!

  • Nurd Rage, your videos are awesome and i love how you respond to peoples comments

  • hey somebody or nurdrage (= plz reply.. i bought this ''land held'' set to get kmno4, and in that there was 20 grams of kmno4 and 200 grams of sodium bisulfate, not metabisulfate :/

but.. can i make sulfuric acid with bisulfate instead of metabisulfate? (:

  • yeah, but not using the method we show in our videos.

Sodium bisulfate can be pyrolyzed to sulfur trioxide to make sulfuric acid. We might do it in later videos.

  • bisulfite and bisulfate isnt that the same stuff?

  • @antiswatt2

    NO

  • thought so (: so bisulfite isnt usable for any cool stuff? like making sulfuric acid?

  • Bisulfite can be used in place of metabisulfite to make sulfuric acid like in our videos.

  • alright.. thanks (=

  • were can you get it?

  • what kind of international store can you get it?

  • YAY! new vids from Nurdrage! Lovin it!

  • Not a verry clear experiment, all the tests that are done arn't verry reliable. If I would needed to test the content of stumpremover I would rather choice a more analytical method like titration and so on....

  • @potassiumperchlorate

Titration is a quantitative technique, my specific objective was a qualitative technique that could be done by "garage chemistry".

But feel free to post a video of your methods.

I'd love to see this more "reliable" titration method based on garage chemistry.

  • Nice experiment!

  • NurdRage, your videos are so well-organized, linked, narrated, and executed. Thank you for your professionalism.

  • what is stump revormer for...and if u say its for remobving stump ...wat is stump???

  • Tree stumps

  • I get it now! Now I have to remember the video I needed this for :P

  • great vid and demo 5*

  • I don't understand. What's a stump remover?

  • @ NurdRage :

Thanks for the info about how to test the nitrate.

But now I have a new question; where can we get hydrochloric acid ? I mean what daily applicant has hydrochloric acid and is easy to buy?

I wonder if the liquid used to clean ... you know the Taint on Urinal is hydrochloric acid or is it chloric / chlorous / sulfuric acid?

  • I know of a bottle called "The Works" that contain Hydrochloric acid, with other substance. About $1 for 28 Fl Oz. It will work for most of your experiments, and you can find it with all the other house cleaning products. (Use gloves when pouring it)

  • thank you very much

  • COOLEST VID EVER!

  • *****

  • Is that you're real voice? also, do you know any ways to make sodium nitrate?

  • buddy cheack out his other vids how to make it out of and instant cold pack and baking soda

  • yes, it is his real voice, he has seven testicles, is there a problem?

  • wtf

  • i lold

  • Comment removed

  • @ Nurdrage:

is there a way to quickly distinguish ice pack make with ammonium nitrate and the ones made with Urea(Carbamide) ? I can't find any stomp remover in Montreal( i think in canada they just dont sell things that can make fire work...) On the instant cold packs, they just don't write anything about the chemicals inside... Is there a way to quickly distinguish without doing the whole procedure of making Sodium nitrate and realize that I used the wrong cold pack to begin with?

  • @cytheh

run the full nitrate test as shown in the other video.

If it passes both nitrate and ammonia tests, it's ammonium nitrate, if it passes only the nitrate test it's sodium nitrate, if it passes only the ammonia test, its urea or ammonium chloride.

  • Thank you, nurdrage.

  • I believe that most stump removers have been discontinued here due to the KNO3 content. :(

  • @pyroflea53:

No, the spectracide brand is KNO3

  • You should do some research about cannabis before you come across as a moron again. Or continue to be brainwashed on your government propaganda.

  • i live in canada and i have never seen a magazine about how to plant/grow pot, EVER

  • actually weed can kill you and you ned to chill man that spaz was not called for and its creepy how you know hes a redneck

  • wow your the first 5 year old I've even seen that knows how you use youtube, clearly your parents mut be on some drugs to treat you so badly, cause i mean why else would you be such an angry kid, and FYI i dont play halo where did you get that idea from??

  • why does he have his voice depened

  • Some people like their privacy on the Internet. From what I've seen, he hasn't answered this question on any of his videos.

  • dont ask me i though its to hide his real voice

  • im guessing he is some kind of a teacher/professor/ta and the materials he is using isn't his property. Just being smart and covering his ass.

  • all the stuff he uses can be bought online

  • maybe...but i highly doubt he buys them.

  • His voice is *deepened* to maintain his anonymity.

  • @odin92681 Actually thatls not the real reason. And plus the real reason is non of you're bull crap.

  • Try not to use such vulgar words in the comments please. It burns my eyes o.O

  • wat's wrong with you people? Did I say I'll use pyro related substance to blow up things? sure they are more dangerous than drugs, but they are useful.I just find the thing weird that I can't get rid of the stump in my backyard cuz the door was too small to let a machinery in and i can't find stump remover. Also, when a Cold pack doesn't even mark what substance it's used.

So COULD YOU PEOPLE PLEASE,CALM DOWN??!!

  • @ NurdRage

    Thanks !!

  • What is stump remover used for exactly?

  • Its is used to remove tree stumps... smart guy.

  • yes just add sulfur and charcoal, lol!Actually because its hydroscopitic it kills the stump by drying it out taking all the moisture thats why they used it so much at the turn of the century to cure meats

  • hygroscopic

  • so what happens if you light the chlorate on fire?

  • Cool. We use a number of these techniques to characterize unknown chemicals submitted for disposal as waste. Saves us 1000's of dollars.

  • Great vids as allways, Keep up the good work NR.

  • Awsome

  • Really NICE!!!!

  • Have you ever thought of selling a dvd with all your vids on them?

  • @ chupamiubre

Not really, after all, who would pay money for something they can get online for free? :)

  • True but i think colleges and such might like having it on a disk.

  • nice

  • Second :)
