On New Years` Day of 1995 I was working in theatre when two guys came in, both had broken fibula, both from sky-diving ( as unlikley as that may seem ). High risk activity, don`t you think ? A single shot of Vadka contains 12 units, and some people will have more than 10 shots a night. Even if they only have 6 pints of 5% and 2 shots of 40% 30 CL their having over 40 units of alcohol. These people put young people to shame, then they go and abuse the police. This week I'v hade 2.7 units of alcohol, I only buy the cheapest alcohol and it lasts me a long time, I spend at least 20 minuets to an hour drinking them at least.
Some of these people drink on a single night. What the heck, some people drink, no kidding, 13 pins on a single night thats thats more than 36 units in a single go >: ( More than 10 time the amount I drink in a weak. Ps. I have spent a lot of time in southern Europe, over the years - where alcohol has traditionally been inexpensive. Even 2 years ago I could see nothing ( in terms of anti - social behaviour / crime etc ) that remotely compares with that which we experience here. Ergo, in my view, these problems have nothing to do with the price....but with British mentality.
I`d like to say to Dr. Alison, I drink. And if the price of alcohol goes up substantially, then I`ll simply cut down on the amount of fruit and vegetables I eat. It`s not as clear cut as the politicians and professionals like to think !
