@dummy3300 K-1 is basically glorified kickboxing, so actually, you haven't seen TKD succeed in MMA. There's no way a fighter could be competitive in MMA using only his TKD training. Competition TKD is point fighting, and not combat oriented. I do agree that karate kid got a beating when he got home, cuz Asian parents beat the $hit out of their kids for punishment. Being Filipino, I'm kinda joking, but kinda not : )

It's very irritating how a lot of people are underestimating these fighters. Because Watanabe Daisuke isn't even a well known fighter and Park Young Soo recently got knocked out by Musashi who recently used to be considered one of the worst heavy weight professional fighting in the majors.
Im a black in tkd myself but i would be nothing without boxing. My advice to anyone who takes TKD combine it with a decent upperbody art like boxing , this will make for a better all round fighter.

your right because its a sport with rules so if you practice tkd learn boxing for sure you need to cross train to do mma even muay thai guys needs to cross-train to do mma you need striking and also grapling skills for mma, thats why they call it mixed martial arts mma = cross training

very smart comment, i do Krav Maga and Taekwondo, an MMA of speed/agility/swiftness, power, all strickes such as kicks, punches, knife hand strikes, etc. plus all of the takedown and grappling techniques and boxing, i'd say that's a pretty good base once i throw in some muay thai or kung fu. what arts do you do?

Uhm...lol? TKD does teach punching, thing is, the punching we learn with TKD is kindda forbidden to use in the ring ;) and I totally agree with the cross training thing, but its childish to say TKD suxk because of one clown out there who (lets be clear here) screws it up pretty bad. But again: TKD is not designed as a ringsport so I dont think you should compare it with arts like Muay Thai and such.

tkd and karate are martial arts for self defense tkd can be very agressive but is not that good in close range karate is good for life due to master movements with the hands, if u dont practice tkd u lose skills with ur legs,dont disrespect the sports, i have seen better tkd fighters than him that dont join ufc or k1 is disrespectful 4 a real traditional tkd student this is not to make money is a science of self defense

My goodness.. having now looked at the whole vid, I can only say that the knockdowns had nothing to do with any particular style, it was just a brawl and the TKD bloke managed a lucky hit :) The Karate bloke was just 'swinging wildly' from what I could see.

Serkan seems to have done what few TKD fighters I've seen have done.. combine boxing/kickboxing into an overall personal version. He clearly uses his TKD to great benefit, but most of his KO's are from punches.
