I think this song was composed after he came back from the symphony in london.
I mean what a different plane of mind. He does hardcore western classical work and then comes back and gives this ooozing melody backed by a western classical ensemble.

Why IR is not well known in India and outside India?
Illaya Raja is NOT venturing out his comfort zone! He is quite satisfied with what he has in Tamil Nadu. Where as OscAR Rahman is bold and is ready to jam with any other talented musician in the world! He entered into Mollywood first, then into Tollywood, then into his own Kollywood, then stormed Bollywood - 25 Filmfare Awards to his credit. Finally, he went to London and then to Hollywood! So, I believe IR must take risks!!
He is a genius.. since he struck to south indian films largely, he never got d attention from rest of india and infact he wasn't atall considered to be given a CIVILIAN award even after he prevails to be THE FIRST INDIAN COMPOSER TO SCORE A "SYMPHONY" !!!

Many music directors may come and go but only Raja's composition stood against time which are immortal. The more i listen to it, man what a lesson for bass guitar. How can a bass guitar(alone) accompany such a slow song ? Well, its possible and here it is.
That 3.37 to 3.39 she gave an ethereal touch to this Maestro melody. Her 'Live' performance gave me goose pimples more than the on screen version. Just love it.
I sincerely think that Ilaiyaraaja has transcended the border of being number one and all. It doesnt matter anymore. He is way up there where no one can even come close..

Many music directors may come and go but only Raja's composition stood against time which are immortal. What a melody! what this song shows is a good composer doest not need to rely too much on instruments if he has the ability to compose a melodius song. My eyes are filled with tears listening to this song. God bless our Maharaja of music.

"ARR was trying with different singers for Yaro Oruvan song in Alaipayuthe, but ARR was not convinced with any of the voices, he felt the voices didn't reflect the exact situation. Then finally Swarnalatha was called, just one shot, she brought up all the emotions ARR was looking for into the song". My all time favorite singer, she's capable of, range of emotional songs to all type of kuthu songs, not every one could do.

As a Laymann tamil music listener: Tamil music world has a list of great female playback singers who are left unnoticed; Vani Jeyaram, Jency, Uma Ramanan, Minmini and now Swarnalatha. However even they couldnt continue their work towards music for some reasons. Atlast the world of music miss something like these singers voices.....
