The fighting prowess of this division cannot be disputed but I think that the French probably remember them more for the massacres at Tulle and Orandour-sur Glane....wiping out whole villages of civilians in the name or partisan reprisals. Nice

In March 1941 200 luftwaffe planes hit Clydebank, a small town 10km from Glasgow, and destroyed the whole town and killed or injured many people.
