Actually the next generation EV1 should have been a hybrid version. Not a "Fake Hybrid" like the Insight and Prius (both of which I own and drive), but rather a real Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). Such a Hybrid Fueled vehicle could use both gas and electricity as fuel sources, which none of the current hybrids do. So really the current generation of hybrids was a step backwards to gas only cars. ps:(Regenerative Braking isn't a fuel source)
Your arguments lack careful consideration. Most people who work in an industry that becomes obsolete always find work in another field. The change is not instant either, people will not suddenly scrap every vehicle that is powered by an ICE, many will have their vehicle converted to electric, and this in itself would employ many people. Did the whole electronics industry suddenly collapse when the VCR was replaced by DVD's? What we need is clean air - and we need it NOW.

I totally agree, I think plug in hybrids are the next step to having full, 100% electric vehicles
