  • Holy Cow !! This brings back memories ! Had tons of Paia modules and gear ! I actually drove to Oklahoma City (from Ohio), with friend of mine, in mid/late 70's to visit the Paia factory. Met John Simonton and Marvin Jones who were both very gracious about showing us around the business. Still have pictures from that trip somewhere.

Had loads of fun building the kits and burnt many hours just playing around with the stuff. I still have this demo record along with all Paia Polyphony Magazines.

  • I had the disk when I was 11. I wanted one so bad.

  • @ jafafah0ts Do you have any cool old home organ demos, or home organ records by obscure artists? I just picked up Harry Wach 'Californian Here I Come' on the Cardinal Record label. Harry plays the Thomas Organ Co. model- Californian 262.

I have a Californian 263 w/ the built in Wah Wah pedal ( plays just above the volume on the pedal). Other than two 6-pin IC's these organs are fully transistorized. You are hearing the transistors sing!

    Also have a Wurlitzer 4500

    YT- Mr.Fantastic Wurlitzer

  • @paulj0557 Yes, actually I have quite an extensive collection of home organ demos (and a few pro and church organs too) which I hope to upload at some point, though it may be a while... I moved across country and my collection is still on the opposite coast.

Eventually I'll probably have more organ demos up than anything else.

  • Very cool! I haven't heard this in over 30 years! Back in the day I built a 4700 synth, a Stringz 'n Thingz and a couple smaller PAiA kits. I particularly love Richard's "Planet Fall" peice!

  • Something about that girl's voice is just so quintessentially 1960s/70s, yet I can't put my finger on what it is.....Laurel Canyon? Weed? Sleep deprivation? Some combination of the above? Think of the Suzy Creamcheese dialogue in Zappa's Uncle Meat....

  • Oh my. I remember playing this disc until it was totally destroyed. Where did you get this old gem? What memories. I had just previously found synths via Pink Floyd. WOW!! Once also had the EML demo flexidisc. It too was played to ruin. Maybe if I search YT.........had a tune called Witch Hunt 1692 or something like that.

  • @Booger6995 I'm taking a bit of a break, but I have many more to come in the future. I have a large collection of these demos.

  • @jafafah0ts Sure hope you have the one from EML. It was quite cool.

  • I keep expecting Dr Pierre Chang to show up in the vid

  • I remember this record! I built a Paia 2720 in 1974. It was a fun project, but you could never get the damn things to play in tune.

  • Wow. I used to have the ARP demo disc, but somehow managed to miss the PAIA demo although I was fully familiar with PAIAs stuff.

  • Intriguing stuff. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the complete recording of Richard Bugg's Epsilon Boötis (without the voice over)? It doesn't seem to be available anywhere...

  • I found the plans for the 2720 somewhere on the net! At a first glance it seems rather primitive compared to some of the other DIY projects out there, but christ what great sounds! This coupled with a modern DAW and some reverb and delay would be just amazing.

  • Has anyone built the PAIA Drum Tones kit, would love to see or hear it...

    Thanx for the cool video..

  • Haha. I just built a 9700 series. Great stuff! They used to make a module, a low pass I believe, that was just a face plate, a jack or two, and a couple Caps and Resistors soldered straight to the jacks. No PCB or anything. Then it was all linear though, now they have midi converters and all sorts of crazy stuff. BTW, If any one has some tips on how to calibrate their new VCO's PLEASE let me know.

  • I have thisecord and booklet and PAIA literature from back in the day. One of the people who worked at PAIA (Linda Brumfield) was pregnant when this record was made. Does anyone have a recording of PAIA's phone 'demo line'? (featured Oz with capacitive touch and a 'wah' sound). I remember the 'beautiful robin's egg blue' (as described in literature) color of the DAC chip for the multi-note keyboard kit published in Polyphony magazine. That magazine is known today as 'Electronic Musician'.

  • i imagine someone(in '74) smoking up, black lights on and exhaling...wow mon!!!

    cool stuff.

  • Richard Bugg is an unfortunate name, but this sounds amazing!

  • great! thank u five stars

  • This is AWESOME!! GREAT STUFF!! Thanks for the post!!

  • Wow, Where ever did you dig this up from.

I bought and assembled one of these when I was 16 back in 74, it was my very first synth. I must have worn out this demo flexidisc waiting for my 2720 to arrive.

    Thank for the memory.

  • Well, thats a rare item. Some of it sounded like "Forbidden Planet".

  • The studio was recorded at the end. Weird.

  • wow that is strange...
