Rest in peace Dr. Carr. Alpha Kappa Alpha celebrates your work and will continue your vision as a legendary Soror. What you have done for people of color and mankind as a whole will never be forgotten. I carry in my heart the words you spoke at our Founders' Day 2006 in Dothan, AL. Thank you for everything, and I know that our Heavenly Father has recieved you with joy as one of His good and faithful servants.
The Hymn "Beams of Heaven As I Go" was written by an African American Hymn writer and Pastor, Charles Albert Tindley. Rev. Tindley pastored one of the largest congregations in the United States in the early 1920's. After some disagreements with his congregation, ailing and aged, he passed away om 1933. Other songs and hymns by him are still sung in many of our churches today, "We'll understand it better by and by" "Leave It there" and over 100 more.
The soloist is Renita Galbreath. The song "Beams of Heaven." More information may be attainable through the Hall Street Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. This information is taken from the program.
I know not who is singing, but she has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard and the song is most beautiful also. Neither could have been better.SOmeone give me some info...who is she. This was a beautiful service.
