In the U.S. police shoot anytime. In France, firing may be the last resort, but security is there. There are lot violent crimes in the State of New York in one day than in France in one year.

I am so happy for my protection. Only the Gendarmerie (military police, and i'am) can open fire without self defense, and it rarely does.

Well, in the U.S the police must feel that there's enough reason to shoot, if they feel threadend by suspects. I agree with you about less crime in France, and the statistics show that too. Well, if you say it's safe the way it is in France, then I must believe you. You know it better than I do. I always enjoy traveling to Europe.
