  • Billy Joel is going to drop a big law suit on them for ripping off "We Didn't' Start the Fire". Maybe they should focus some of their innovation on video production.

  • sounds like we didn't start the fire.

  • Dude you have to upload this @ a highest resolution! The video is awesome!

  • Great video, I just wish the guy singing wasn't jacked up on speed when he sung this.

  • thats the way to do it boys!!!!!

my congratulations to everibody who were part of the revolution and thank you.

  • Dear Bell Labs,

I miss you dear friend; where did you go? Please come back!

    Best,

    W

  • can i get the lyrics for this song?

  • My dad was a mid-management (Accountant) for Western Electric->Illinois Bell->AT&T for 40-odd years, and has seen a few of those developments. Namely, the ESS (Electronic Switching System)... For which he brought home a T-shirt (Issued to employees only, I'd imagine) promoting the 5th ESS (No.5ESS) that joined all the preexisting units together nationwide. I still have that shirt... Shame shortly after the Lucent takeover he was booted, because he was replaced by software.

  • @nickelindimer sad to know abt the replacement...but 40 years in att..thats something hes got to be proud of..

  • @venkatguitar And so he is, as I touch with him upon the experiences of working for the company. Such as... The resounding difference (Emphasis on sound) between the ESS in operation and the the old automatic pulse-dialing triggered mechanical analog one. Imagine 10K crickets in a room, all sounding-off at once. Now amplify it by 100x. That's what the old dialing system was like to endure.

  • Billy Joel could have done better

  • @SepherStar agreed

  • awesomeness.

  • This is a great video that describes all the innovations that brought the communication to where it is today. Proud to have been part of the history 29 years with the Lucent.

  • Great Video, proud to be a part of this Lab for 20 years in Lucent Optoelectronics, PA

  • oh my god the music is horrid! cool video tho.

  • @Maxbullis video was awesome..song wasnt surprisingly aweful actually...it was pretty good!

  • I hate guitars!

  • @Shape84 :u got to learn it to really love it..

  • Makes me really proud but it's so sad that this innovation engine for the industry has largely gone the way of the dodo. The song's a bit dated (from 2000), with the saying "Lucent's star is on the rise" (as the hot air balloon lifts off). Um, not so much now that it's been acquired and is a part of Alcatel...

  • WOW - very cool song. Unbelievable in which HUGE amount of innovations they were/are involved.

  • In the day two more ex-colleagues have been awarded 8th Nobel Prize, I raise my glass for them and I remember all the good work and moments with hundreds of co-workers all over the world during 10 years in that great piece of my life called Lucent. Thanks to all. Proud to be a (small) part of it.

  • Really great! Sometimes i wish i would be born a little earlier ;-)

  • nice!!!! so many great inventions/inovations.

Also my parents both work there

  • we didn't start the fire, it was always burning....

  • hao

  • Where can I download this song?

  • You mean, except from here? ;)

  • So many great inventions and so many genius there. Still feel sad and unbelievable for what it is now although have left Lucent for some time. I don't believe any other corporations can fund projects like that and achieve more brilliant outcomings......

  • a girls mom named cheryl coyle works there and brought a grammy into my class and i got to touch it!

  • COOL! My dad works there also. :(

  • Great music video! My hat goes off to all the R&D people of the past. What would the World be like today if Bell Labs never existed? Think about it for a minute....

  • At 10 years old I watched the Bell Labs TV series "Our Mister Sun". I knew at that time that Bell Labs is where I wanted to work. I never invented anything as important as the transistor in my 20 years working at Bell Labs but made significant contributions to a lot of projects.

It is sad to see what has happened now....

  • Sad sad sad.... They had a jewel and a bunch of idiots managed to utterly destroy it.

  • Is it just me, or does the verse to this song sound like a rip-off of Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire?" Also, Lol

  • <3 My heart goes out to all of the folks who have been involved with the various incarnations of Bell Labs. You guys are heros.

  • This was very nicely done. Sad that there would never be a R&D like this again. Maybe the new AT&T/SBC will continue this type of work??

  • Yes this is such a swan song. It tugs at my heart because I saw a clip of my old boss and remember the interesting Government Research Project I was a team member on back in the 80's. What a sell out. The death of pure R&D just for the sake of innovation. Those days are gone at least for the rest of my lifetime. Corporatizaton will never fund projects like these and the Government is busy funding a sandpit in the Middle East.

  • love this video! brings back many memories and at the same time makes me very sad for what was and what never will be again! gee thanks pat and the cheese eating surrendor monkey french! LOL!!! (PS i know the demise did start long before pat and her selling us out lock stock and barrel but damn she sold our souls to the croissant eating latte drinking devils and that is the end of for me and my current co-workers!) au reviour my friends!

  • lol, can't get it out of my head!!!

  • where can I get the lyrics? -_-b

  • Bell Labs demise started about 15 years ago while still AT&T under Bob Allen. The removal of Ian Ross was the first step in the systematic destruction of the world's greatest R&D institution - just part of the broader mismanagement of AT&T. The ill conceived birth of Lucent Technologies accelerated Bell Labs' demise with a new set of poor leaders focused on near term stock price instead of sustained business performance. I will choose to remember Bell Labs as the great place it once was.

  • nice

  • Can I get the link to download this ?? I am working for Lucent currently..

  • The vocal on this is me. I remember making this. Quite a story. Part I is that it was made for a big 75th bash that was to be world-wide, with a world-wide simulcast. More facinating stuff to follow....Here's to the REVOLUTION!

  • my mom works there...lol

  • I've been working in Bell labs for one year, this is the song I saw as the new comer orientation. I love it so much!

  • For those who haven't worked at Bell Labs or Lucent Technologies over the past 10 years... Bell Labs is Dead. All this is history. Its future is a myth.

  • Wow--it was made in the middle of the 7 1/2 years I worked at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, but I never saw this before! It makes me remember just how wonderful it was to be a part of that. It also makes me miss many of the folks I used to work with--many of which were actually featured in this video.

  • Absolute load of corporate crap

  • i forgot...we won't forgot you :)

  • they written our history...i hope to work there a day :)

  • wow lol
