he i just got the mini dvi to hdmi cable, and i hooked it up to my HDTV, but when i hook it up it only lets me do 1080i and not 1080p, i not sure if my tv is 1080i or 1080p, but is there anyway to make the display 1080p
the only settings that your tv will let you use are the ones that will come up to be chosen, if your setting says 1080i, your tv is prolly 1080i, not p. so unless you have a 1080p screen, 1080p is unattainable
Perhaps its not as good quality because on OSX, the display settings were on 1920x1080 (interlaced). or in other words 1080i, not 1080p. I have pretty much the same setup as you. My TV is a 37" 1080p. I recommend Quicktime Pro for HD Videos. I find VLC lags at times. The TOSLink can also support DTS 24/96 and Dolby through Quicktime with no lag. If you are having problems with Quicktime Codecs, download Perian. You can also select 24Hz in display settings to get 24p IF your TV supports it
hey. ok u have the 2008 macbook pro, with vista, with aero enabled. did u upgrade the video card or did u do that somehow thru a hack or something. cuz i have the 2009 unibody macbook pro. i have windows 7 and aero glass will not work for me. please help
well wile your in vmware insert the disk and install the drivers, when using vmware your still using a separate operating system, and not using the drivers from osx in windows 7...it might not be bootcamp but you should still have to install the bootcamp drivers for windows to work properly with your pro lol, idk i could be wrong
im still on decision of getting a pc and a mac so can you give me so pros and cons. also what if i want to boot windows 7 or something like that on my mac how would i do that. and do you still get viruses when you use windows on your mac. one last thing did you regret buying a macbook
hey when you connect your mac to your HD tv, do you get more room, because my macbook is only 1280 by 720 and i want to play 1080p movies but when i play it on my mac its to big and i have to scale it down, if i connect it to the tv will it play full screen
ok lol sorry 1 more question, because i have been wanting to do this for like months, is the mini dvi to HDMI better quality then the mini dvi to vga, or is there no difference
ok, i made the same mistake man. first when you log back on to the OSX side close your macbook then wake it up without opening it (with the remote if you have it) it will allow you to use your hdtv to watch the moive... but go to preferences first and change the display output specs to fit your tv. once you have it on the screen you can open it to use the keyboard....
Looks fine on both i dont see anything different except the colours are warmer through vista...which is just a colour profile thing ...saying that the contrast and saturation on your tv is really blowing out alot of the colour range in you picture anyway.
This system is running perfectly!! The power of the Macbook is making short work of Vista - and your DVI to HDMI cable is making this look stunning on the X LCD! Nice Amp BTW!!!!
it just works, if you have the drivers installed. My mac mini even runs aero, and that graphics chipset in it is pathetic. 3.3 vista index.
Also you don't need bootcamp on your os to do this. You can create a 2nd partition at the install screen of osx (make it the 2nd one) and after installing osx, install xp or vista into the new partition. You can control which OS boots with keyboard commands at boot, which every mac has. Holding down option (or alt) gives a boot screen.
the only problem with quicktime is that if you are not playing a native format to the quicktime player it will pull in other codecs. this can introduce differences in quality. VLC on the other hand only uses codecs that are bundled inside the vlc program itself.
true, but a side effect of this is you need to update the program often, instead of just a codec. And they seem to be breaking features every other release. I was unable to stream live tv with the last one.
true...but my sony has like this rgb port but its not like the three seperate ports. its just one port...i have a sony v series..so is there a dvi to rgb?
when doing this is image uality good on a TV????... I used s supervideo and doesnt have good image on a TV or plasma.... does VGA and DVI or HDMI look better?
Im a designer and some people say that TVs dont have same depth field (n colors) like monitors do......
it's a toslink to toslink mini that i got from ebay. i connected the mac to the hifi (amplifier) and it recognised the 5.1 dolby digital signal. it sounded great, pure digital...
dude, to full screen it on the tv, the vlc program, not just the window needs to be on the tv as well. But yeah, it looks crappier than on vista, hmm.
so all u need 2 hook up to hdtv is mini dvi to hdmi then hdmi to the tv??

If your tv supports 1080p you are ok. You will not have a problem. You won't need to downscale.

redendos 2 years ago
mini dvi to HDMI is better than mini dvi to vga.
HDMI is just a dvi with sound so there is no signal loss or a signal convert.
Use the the mini dvi to HDMI.

to do a real comparison you should use the same player on both os. Use VLC on windows and see what it looks like.
realfolkblues12 3 years ago
or use quicktime on both. It works with the remote control.
LordOrwell2 2 years ago

the quality is almost like a pc monitor if not the same, and it's a 46"...
babisvovos73 3 years ago
they make an adapter for the ones with the ati graphics which has composite and svideo outputs. Looks crappy compared to hi-def though.
LordOrwell2 2 years ago
Hi,
what kind of toslink cable is that?
is that a toslink to toslink mini or does it have an adaptor on it?
How does the macbook pro go 5.1 surround? does it work well?
thanks
