Glenn Miller wrote an arrangement of "Tuxedo Junction" that was much slower and funkier and which was much more popular, going all the way to no. 1. Glenn Miller also wrote a funky trumpet part not found on the Erskine Hawkins version. Glenn Miller was one of the greatest arrangers and composers of the Big Band era. And it showed on songs like "Tuxedo Junction". Buddy Feyn later added lyrics to the song. Feyn also wrote the lyrics to "I Dreamt I Dwelt in Harlem", which reached no. 3 in 1941.
This version was the hitman Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran's favorite song. His first date with his wife was to see Erskine Hawkins in Philly. Sheeran's life is being made into a movie by Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro, featuring Al Pacino and Joe Pesci.
@vintageaudiobuff I actually still play it from time to time on my own on my violin because it pops into my head a ton, I should record myself playing it for Youtube sometime.
Wow!!! I can only say wow, this takes me back to our sat nites and our community center, where we danced until 9pm. My parents,( all the parents ) I and my friends had to be in by 10pm. but the music we grew up on, all the giants of jazz, blues, ballads, etc. thanks to utube and vintageaudiobuff. Thanks so much from the 40's. postofc
This is by far the best recording of this song.

You certainly seem to take pride in your knowledge of vintage music. And rightfully so!
