I think the "screwup" was because when you first play the game, you have a hard time catching the damned thing, since it bounces around.

That may be true, but in all honesty, I think it was due to an audio blunder. If you look at that part again, you notice the music dissapears even after he catches the star, and only comes on after most of the running is done. Still, as I said, made it all the more enjoyable.
