  • stau Quebec sa? ayoye!! en quel anne ? 1956? lolanyhow where in quebec is this ? the sound make s it sound like its from the fifties!!

  • @daretohaveorangehair Réserve Faunique La Vérendrye. This was a test hike. The actual trip is also posted. Its called Wear the Fox Hat 1 2 and 3. When we told people in Ontario where we went they said "Wear the Fox Hat?"

  • Im not gunna lie I think its kind of weird that two grown men went out to the woods to try out a meal like that... although I did sit through the whole video so maybe im the weird one..

  • @Jordyjg Well. The truth will help you feel better. The purpose of the trip was to do some early recon of the area we were going to hike during the Econo Challenge in August of that same year. It is good to get first hand knowledge of the area before you plan a 10 day hike. We brought this along to test if it would be something good to take with us on the same hike. Did not want to waste the opportunity to try something new. It failed and did not travel with us on the hike in Aug.

  • Nasty

  • @marcmantione Not exactly the best looking stuff eh?

  • exothermic reactions FTW

  • @shoopwhoopX playing with chemicals in the wild. Doesn't seem right does it?

  • Thanks for review!

  • @ShoeManShoe68 This would be the first meal review. Or at least the review that gave us the idea!

  • huh?

  • @afterthefox7 If they called it a jetenginelite it would be more descriptive. LOL

  • I'll stick with my MSR whisperlite and my soda can stove which would make that food piping hot.

  • @afterthefox7 Don't you wonder why they decided to call it the whisperlite? I have one that is why I am asking.

  • Get Dinty Moore Dinner (s) 10 oz, different varieties (Beef, Turkey, Chicken, some have gravy, some have veggies like potatoes, etc). Put in pot of water, boil 5min to heat dinner. Eat. Plastic bowl ( less than 1 oz) pack it out. Use hot water for tea or coffee, or cocoa, whatever. Weight limit of 2# per person per day is about right for most (exc "ultralight"), cost half of freeze-dried. 250-350 cal.17-25% fat 15-20% chol 54% sod 7-10%carbs 15-25g protein. It's an option.Happy Trails

  • @finishstrongdoc For overnight or two day weekend trips you offer a great option. Much better than the 5 minute meal idea if you use a portable stove to heat your water. Rather than these funky heating pads.

  • Two men, alone in the woods, wanting piping hot beef? Why do I here the Deliverance theme, 'dueling banjos' in my head?

  • @Robikus That is a new perspective on this video. Wow. Did not see that coming. Gave us a laugh though. Thanks.

  • @EconoChallenge I'm maturity challenged. Great vid, Keep up the good work.

  • retarded hillbilies

  • this is exactly like an MRE

  • @skoz14 Wow finally! That is good to know. You see we have not been able to purchase a MRE yet to see for ourselves. Thank you.

  • @EconoChallenge Usually "civilian MRE" taste better. The companies that make those civilian MREs usually also make MREs for the military cutting down on costs. So usually less "tasty" but also less packaging.

But very good video you underline the problems with those meals: too much garbage.

One thing you should have done: talk more about the energetic data (calories per meal, proteins etc..).

    Cheers!

  • @Victortrotska Thank you. We will put your suggestion to work in our next video on the subject. It seems that Mountain House has a flameless oven that uses a similar heat source for preparing a hot meal. We will give a bit more information about the meal when we do our review. Spoiler alert .... we will be canning the idea for the same reasons as given in this video. Have a great New Year!

  • @EconoChallenge Thank you for your videos :)

Best wishes for 2011 and beyond!

  • Don't knock it guys. You're in the middle of nowhere, Cold, Hungry and exhausted. For 6 dollars, £4.00 sterling, you have a hot meal to save your life. I would call that a bargain. U.S army MRE's cost at least $15-20 over here and yours looked better!!

  • @reddog694uk I fully agree.

  • nah the one in the hat is ighttt.... that other one tho is ..... o.0 what what in the buttttttt

  • trew

  • Wish we had such food in our country....

  • @MEH4O Bulgaria should stick to home made. Always better!

  • that guy is a fag.

  • @FALUBWA Which guy?

  • @EconoChallenge both of them. i think theyre canadians. lol

  • @FALUBWA You are correct. We are both happy Canadians. Subscribe to see more.

  • @EconoChallenge the only kind of Canadians...

  • that guy is a fag

  • @artironc Which guy?

  • add rather make stew on the fire less packaging and 6 bucks for that that seems a lot

  • @hanghoodiescum Cooking on the fire. The low impact way to eat in the wilderness. We killed this idea because of the weight and packaging. Thanks for the comment.

  • keep in mind in a survival situation this may not be growing on the ground or nearby tree. Unless this is with you and you have enough to pull you out of a sticky situation great. If not learn to know what is around you and what is good to eat and learn how to collect water safely.

  • @whisperingdeath308 Great comment and suggestion. Thank you for watching.

  • is this considered a mre? or is there a difference

  • @shidoink This meal uses the same heating tech as the MRE's. However, you only get the a main dish with this meal. MRE's have a main meal and desert. Thank you for watching.

  • Not very useful in the woods, but I could see this as useful under other circumstances. One that happens to me quite often as a matter of fact. I work security, and every now & then my relief never shows up. I get stuck working an additional 8-hour shift beyond last minute's notice.

Heading out to a 24-hour Deli and having to immediately come back means a cold sandwich when I'm looking forward to a hot meal, at home. (Had my relief shown up.)

I can see this as a good alternative.

  • We agree. It is a hot meal. It has everything you need inside the box, grab and go. Just don't take it out into the wilderness. Thanks for the comment.

  • ha, I meant beef.

  • search for MRE and you'll see that the military has been using this technology for a long time. I love the jamaican beer with rice but I hate the rice it smells like pay doh to me.

  • Too High a Price and too much garbage to take with you.

For a rating of 6, out of 10 - Not worth it at all.

    Try a do it yourself - meal.......Geeze!

  • We agree. Back in those days we rated the meal based on flavour only. If we were to rate this on garbage it would be a 1 out of 10. Thanks for your comment.

  • @cwaj you can always skin your ration - MREs can be taped to be waterproof with only the meals in and the junk can later be easily compressed. Rations like that are to be used when time is essential and conditions are bad, or transport is available - and in rescue, military and similar operations.

  • @cwaj still better than a 10$ montainmeal (term of what you get for X$)

  • dont mean to be a smart ass but that is not steam it is hydrogen gas you put a match to that and boom trust me ive done it.

  • Are you joking with us? You think the packaging would have some kind of a warning. Caution may explode perhaps? I do not remember seeing anything like that.

  • We found it at Europe Bound in Toronto. We did not like it for hiking so we have never tried to find it again. Try cooking the same flavour as a freeze dried meal from Mountain House. Much better!

  • Look at me--I'm sittin here lickin my lips & swallowing watchin you guys eat! I'm hungry!

Where do you find this food?!

  • thats soooooooo stupd!!

  • rather have an MRE

  • How do we get our hand on a MRE? Several viewers have mentioned these meals but we have no idea how to get one to try out. Any suggestions?

  • You can get them online or go to an army navy store (ANS). If you go to an ANS they even sell just sections of the meal so if you only want the main course you're good. The cost is about the same but they're lighter and its more of an actual meal including a crappy desert; typically live savers (no pun intended). I guess in the end there is a lot of extra stuff in the MRE but it can all be used in some way. Open one you'll see what I mean.

  • I am not familiar with ANS stores. We do have army surplus store in Canada but I have never asked about MRE's. Next time I am visiting one of these store I will ask. Thanks for the reply.

  • "army navy store (ANS)"... it really means nothing but I thought i would type army navy store a lot so i gave it a reference. I call it "shortcut to laziness"... and it backfired.

  • Look for a surplus army supply store in the country. Guaranteed they'll have them. Make sure it's a mom and pop type operation.

  • I just thought of a place not far and it seems like a mom and pop type store. I will check it out and post a comment.

  • AHH THE BOX IS ON FIRE!

  • steam = position compromised

  • Love this comment. It made us smile. Thanks for posting.

  • how slick!

  • Yes. It was very slick. Just way too much packaging. Thanks for watching.

  • Im hungry!

  • YAY SCIENCE!

  • $30 plus s&h for 6 on amazon, different varieties.

Thanks for reviewing this product, interesting.

    5*

  • thats pretty cool

  • similar to an MRE

  • Those things aren't really designed for backpacking. They were marketed for people like construction workers in remote areas who wouldn't have access to heat up lunch.

  • Steaming is a better way to reheat meals than the microwave

  • Nice

  • i carry 2 small packs of noodles in my survival kit ^^

  • How many days? That does not sound like a lot of food.

  • in my survival kit

but in my bp i carry more ofc

  • Ah yes the survival kit. Thanks for the comment. I carry a small zip bag of "Good Old Raisins and Peanuts" (GORP) However I have added many more ingredients.

  • No refrigeration necessary correct? Is that similar to an iron oxide heating pad?

    Interesting review-thanks.

  • No refrigeration required is correct! The reaction plate included magnesium and it reacted with salt water included in the package. It was heavy and not the best choice for the backpack. It tasted good!

  • Thanks for the response!

  • What happens if it gets rained on, would it start steaming or is it packaged in a no moisture allowed way? I didn't see any packing that would protect the "gets hot" stuff. Thanks for the test, cool video.... get it, COOL video (hot/steam)..... what?!

By the way, just found... Wilderness Survival: Building and using a wilderness survival kit... on Google, by Google, just in case you guys are interested in the info. Later.

  • Everything was sealed in plastic. If the packaging was damaged and got wet you might have a problem. We decided it was COOL but not for wilderness hiking. Thanks for your comment.

  • Thanks for the reply.

  • unhealthy because processed and wasteful cuz of packaging

  • cool

  • Hmmm i recon there was to many parts to it... Would take to long to get rid of it an to much hastle

  • Very interesting. Was that CAD $5.99?

  • Yes that is correct. Canadian $

  • The heating pad did not stay warm for much longer than the meal. Don't think it would help you.

  • we know how to throw a box on a fire

  • Far too much rubbish to get rid of! It would be ok for a day hike.

  • We agree! We did not think this would work for the Econo Challenge but would make an excellent emergency meal that can be stored for long periods of time without refrigeration.
