  • It's an amazing place Shetland it has the lowest unemployment rate in Scotland!!! It also has so many chances for young ones to do sports and music!! The wildlife brings lots of tourists and up helly aa which If you saw would be amazed at how good it is! Waiting for a job is not long, longest I've ever had to wait is 3 weeks to hear back!! fiddle and accordion festival is great time and so is our inter county!! It was said at beginning of 2012 it's the number 1 place to live in the United King

  • I never been to Shetland ,but i i would love to visit this beautifull island.

as a norwegian i feel strong sense of pride over the viking ancestry on Shetland, after all it have always had strong bonds to Norway:-)

  • I've always wanted to go there!!

  • I've had a little exploration of the Shetland Islands on Google street view, and I have to say, I don't know how anyone can live there. I love peace and quiet - that isn't the issue. The issue is that there's literally nothing there. It's a dreary, damp, depressing, featureless, barren, dull, isolated dump of a place. In fact, it's not even a dump.. it's just like... nothing. I mean, the Shetlands are THE definition of "nowhere". There's not even a fucking tree.

    I'd go insane living there...

  • @kramnodd9 Sorry, just realised that you looked up the place on google street view cause we all know that sitting on your arse and looking at a place through a map on a computer really gives you a feel for a place. Here is an idea get off your bum and actually visit.

  • @Clivebarker88

Agree with your point about chavs, niggers and Muslims, but the Shetlands do NOT look like paradise. They don't look like anything. Just a barren wasteland

  • i dislike this

  • @vesternor

Whats is it you dislike about it so much???

I assume it doesn't do your great islands justice???

    Greetings from Edinburgh

  • @SamsSpaghetti A few years ago the BBC did a tv series called "Blood of the vikings" and they did a DNA test on X number of Shetland men looking for the Norwegian/Norse Y(?) chromosone and the results showed that 60% of the men tested had the Y chromosone.

I have a family tree that goes back to a man called Hendrick Hendrickson in 1472.

    :)

  • @SamsSpaghetti Yes, but nobody was here, only perhaps one or two hermit picts!.

  • @MrChickybee1 @MrChickybee1 Yes, but its being flooded by english, scottish and polish settlers :(:(

Would the last Shetlander left please switch off the lights.....

  • i used 2 work in shetlands at the gilbert bain in 80s,find this video very nostalgic,no doubt it was the most memorable time of my life,i wonder if the people i worked with r still there, probably not!i still have lots of pics, no doubt they were the most wonderful people i came across, presently i am in north west pakistan, quite in contrast to the calm of shetlands, if any old friends c this comment it would b nice to get in touch again.

  • Hi, just to say that shetlandlive is featuring this video on our front page, is that Jonathan's voice I hear narrating?

  • I'm from the Philippines and I am very interested to go to Shetland.

  • Hoping to visit very soon..

  • This is on my list of "Must Visit" places.

  • I would love to come back! Loved the place, still do.

  • Hello from America. Quarter Shetlander from my Grandfather hope you are all well. Proud to be Shetlander

  • I would suggest that anyone coming to Shetland, will treasure their visit for years to come.Email me for a link of beautiful photos of mainland Shetland.I have lived here for over 19 years now,and think that people should visit Shetland in both,Winter and Summer,as it is stunning whenever you arrive.

  • My grandad was born in Shetland. It is a wonderful place to visit.

  • i come from shetland :) the winter is very cold though!

  • We were lucky enough to visit Lerwick in September 2009. It is beautiful - I would encourage everyone to visit - the beauty of the Island is outmatched only by the wonderful Shetlanders (did I get that right?). Wonderful video series - brought back many memories.

  • Looks absolutely lovely - would love to visit sometime!

    Greetings from California, Shetlanders!

  • @SabuPtolemy hia california from shetland

  • oh men, i dont know anything about shetland, except for what i have seen in this video, I live so far away from the UK. but i know someone who lives there, and im in lover with her, and watching all this images.... well,,, it just makes me more in love with her and her roots....

its an amazing place for what i have seen, and i hope ill see it with my own eyes one day... thanks for the video, its great.

  • haha 2:03 Mr Sandison! My primary 6 teacher!

  • gr8 video.i love the music by the lady singer.where can i get hold of the cd.

  • I live in Shetland too. I Love It! Sometimes people say alot of bad stuff about Shetland.. But It Aint Dat Bad! Yeah, Ok, they may no b alot 2 do but its a nice place, the weather aint dat bad either. It rains some of da time but aint dat like everywhere in da UK? Most places do get rain, Shetland aint exactly da only place dat gets rain. It's a nice place. And for those that haven't actually been here, you can't say anything about it yet, you don't no da truth! Cme here b4 u judge Shetland :) !

  • OK, Shetland ain't an inner city ghetto but boy, oh boy, is it over-rated.

What these "beautiful" videos and brochures don't tell you is that the rich are rich and the poor are poor. Poverty?. You won't only find that in an inner city ghetto. Many people in Shetland are paid little more than the UK national wage and don't drive around in a big 4x4 gas guzzler.

And for 70% of the time it's a mixture of cold/wind/rain.

How do I know?. Because I live here!.

  • this summer is kicking ass so far tho! lol

  • Great promotional video. Perhaps it would be more authentic with a Shetlander narrating, though I guess this is easier for non Shetlanders to understand. Still, it might give the impression Shetlanders talk with an English home counties accent (the Forewick Holm/Forvik syndrome).

  • How is it with shetland, do they feel Norwegian, scottish ore shetlanders?

  • most would say shetlanders

  • i live in shetland 2

  • way shetland its awsome i live here and do fencing here it is amazing love this place

  • i live in Shetland, i was born in Shetland, and im glad to be a shetlander. Shetland is the most amazing place to me, i will never leave the Shetland Islands.

  • @cattom96 Yep. And if you are like most the Shetlanders I met when I lived there 30 years ago, you will have webbed feet and marry your sister.

  • @cattom96 hear! hear!

  • @cattom96 We need to be a island nation once more, To be free of scotland and be independent just like our brilliant neighbours the Faroe Islands, Bring back our norse language and have our national football team in the euro and world cup, Faroe islands football team is and they are made up of amatuers just like us!

    með lögum skal land byggja!!!!!!!!

  • @FAUN99

Yes, please do break away from Scotland. You're a bunch of nutters. I guarantee there isn't a single sane person on the Shetlands, caused by extreme isolation and blandness. How can you live in a place without a tree? There's nothing "beautiful" about your shitty island, it's just a featureless wasteland. If it was evaporated off the map, nobody would even care. I'm serious.

  • @kramnodd9 glad you like the shetlands, Come and visit sometime :)

  • @FAUN99

I'd never set foot in the dump.

  • @kramnodd9 well you are already standing in one if you live in mainland scotland

  • @FAUN99

At least Scotland has actual environments, like hills, trees, lochs, castles etc... what does the Shetlands have?

  • @kramnodd9 *SHETLAND, Obviously has a better education. It has, hills, trees, lochs, castles, brochs, beaches. Maybe you should look up a place before you try and make an ignorant judgement on a place.

  • @cattom96 you are lucky

  • nice.. I've never been in Shetland. Im from the Faroes. A town in faroe islands is actualy called Leirvík :D

This reminds me of faroe islands, but you have some other style of buildings. We in faroes build big wood houses. Seems like you have alot of Gray concrete buildings there.

  • i'm from shetland and i've been to faroe, i loved it there....we stayed on nolsoy, just across from torshavn. beautiful place. it reminded me of shetland excepty everything seemed to be higher (the hills and mountains etc)

  • The Shetland Islands are amazing. Very good Video. Anyone who does go should also make the trip to the Top of the Shetland isles Yell and Unst there as they are worth the visit.

  • omg i really want to go there!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great Promo!! You guys do fine work
