I agree with the comment about how SSD’s enhances performance quite a bit. It is a simplistic view to say that SSD's only speed up load times. For any running programs, especially games and video intensive programs, there can be a lot of I/O (reads and writes) of data. Since some SSD’s can be over 90x faster than a typical 5400 RPM hard drive, having an SSD can make a big difference in performance. Other benefits: less susceptible to shock, higher heat tolerance, more consistent performance.
@DixieCzech I'm not sure if games work much similar to video, but if you have a slower hard drive, playback of video can't keep up and the computer ends up dropping frames or lagging.
I wouldn't be surprised if that applies to games.

I didn't research it beforehand and it turned out I needed a faster hard drive, so I got one with FireWire 800 and I no longer drop frames. It's partly to do with the way that USB works though, not just the speed.

LOL SSD doesn't make your computer perform faster, it's the RAM that makes the macbook perform better. SSD just reduce the loading time and multitask, because it can send information to the RAM much faster than HDD.

I would say that the performance your computer has in gaming is heavily dependent on your processor, graphics card, what res. you are running the game at, and RAM (Speed of ram, not so much as to how much RAM you have so as long as you have at least 2 GB). macs are awesome, I play Borderlands on my 2010 macbook pro and it works great even without a SSD, im using a 500GB 7200rpm hard drive and have the 2.4ghz core 2 duo with 4GB of ram, many pc games are now available as download versions from the mac app store and then since they are the entire game and are completely on the hard drive they run very smooth because of not needing to load anything from a disk

@iphonepunker minecraft is JAVA, so it's a heavy OpenGL program. Which means you MUST have a GPU present if you want to play minecraft at decent frames. As far as i know MAC book air uses intel graphics.

The reason the gaming is good on the 2010 MB Air isnt because of the ssd, but because of the nvidia gt 320m. Apple screwed up the 2011 one with only integrated graphics...

It has gotten a bit better this year, but all of Apple's products' MSRPs are way higher than what you should be paying for the hardware, even in combination with good workmanship.

The SSD does not support the framerate of the game at all.......... do you know ANYTHING about programming and how games operate? They don't real-time depend on the hard drive.

The SSD does not support the framerate of the game at all.......... do you know ANYTHING about programming and how games operate? They don't real-time depend on the hard drive.

This is because mainly, FPS games Like COD, or MOH doesn't need intense Processor, hence, even if you are using 1.4Ghz C2D, it will still work good, it's working well because of the 320M and a bit of the SSD,
try playing Shogun 2 Total war, It's probably gonna be only 5-10 fps.. and no way you can play on the Air

@greenrolaids Lol if you actually owned a Mac, you wouldn't say that. Yea sure, $1000 dollars is a lot, but Macs are QUALITY of machines, they OWN PCs in sooo many ways. I own a gaming rig and a Mac, and i find myself using my Mac way more. Take note that I was a PC fanboy until I bought myself a Mac :)

That said.. $1000 in pc money will get you a computer that apple will charge you $1800 speed for speed.

@greenrolaids Lol you got a point there. But people say that there expensive, but, in a couple of months of saving up i was able to get it. Just a lot of people don't know how to do that... But even after owning both PC and Mac, PCs are just better at gaming. Macs are more for working on them. Thats why i have both OS installed on my macbook pro. But if your going to invest a lot of money on a computer, you have to think if your going to need a gaming machine or a machine to work on.

Truth is look at the direction of Mac, it's moving towards pc technology, not the other way around, this is why the Mac is so good because it is incorporating PC technology an PC software. Mac as it sits now does not own PC, PC owns Mac simple as that. To each their own though, I have both an like both. My 2 cents

I definitely disagree, Macs overheat like crazy, which damages lifespan of parts by a ton, also my mac got lines down the screen within a few years of use, my value dell laptop which I've gamed heavily on has lasted now for 7 years and still works just great. Macs overcharge bigtime for parts, just admit it, it's true. I'm fine with Macs, I own a couple, but I like PC a lot more

@masterhidsert1043 actually, altho Macs have a higher initial layout, they have a lower TCO (total cost of ownership. look it up). on a PC you will constantlyhave to buy things for it, a Mac will last longer. Plus, the customer service is 100 times better.

The fact that Microsoft uses misleading images and promotes its own closed-standard doesn't make it the best API out there, just sayin'. And if you still think OpenGL looks and plays shitty, check out a little game called "RAGE" by little unknown developer "id".

Wow I never thought, that you can run Team Fortress 2 with ALL settings on maximum on a MacBook Air! Just tried it and it ran fluently and fully playable! It was the Steam version for Mac. Never thought, that the MBA has such a gaming power!

Ok yea if you go to target or walmart you won't pic up something better than a mac air in any way. But who buy's computers at walmart or target in the first place for gaming? Also You pay 1,000 bucks for that and in a way its worth the price. But there are custom built and non custom built pc's that are better for gaming that same size (screen size) and lower price.
I'd like to see things from your perspective but sadly i can seem to get my head that far up my ass.

Once the mission is loaded any performance is determined by the cpu, RAM and gpu. The SSD has nothing to do with it.

That cpu and ram is more than enough for COD4 on that tiny monitor. Its not like its pushing that much res anyway. I'm not too surprised that it runs like that. Although it is still cool. I've been wanting to get one of these new macbook airs
