  • Really love the look of this plane.

  • Greets from GreenPeace! ;D

  • looks amazing

  • Wow... fantastic!

  • i want to see that big ass fly

P.S if that plane cost under 1.000 pon i'l buy that and DONT CORECCT MEH!

  • Love your lens. Perfect.

  • did the entry hatch make it?....

  • Great video. I want to say one thing right away. Praise you for no music. Just wanted to say. There are three sounds that will induce instant hard-on for me. A gun chambering a round, an idling v8 with a race cam, and a radial engine starting.

  • Why does it suddenly start making that loud noise at 2:14? Did the exhaust system blow up?

  • Absolutely useless !

  • now that is one cold engine !

  • nothing happens until 3:00

  • still remember the sound of these birds as they sloooowly flew by I actually miss the old bristol freighter in the skies, i'd love to hear and see it once more well done you blokes, and close that damn bottom hatch next time!!!

  • Great to see & hear the old girl again. Very nostalgic.... they had 3 of these & flew 2 of em where I learnt to fly in Terrace, BC. Dave Menzies and the boys of Hawkair were serious bush pilots flying supplies into the mines & camps in Nth BC in mid 90's. They taught me many life-saving tid bits which served me well.

    Thanks.

  • Great to hear large radial engines running but a surprise to see the rotation is clockwise as you view it from the front. Nothing wrong with that though.

  • ale główno...

  • I would like to have seen him pull a Howard Hughes Surprise:

"We're just going to taxi her a little."

After the flight: "We taxied her at an altitude of 50 feet or so. You just can't keep a good Goose down."

He didn't say that, but it sounds good haha. Thanks for this video I wish the one you referred to could be found. I'd love to see this beautiful fat bird airborne.

  • The 'H' in Bumpfitch stands for hatches

  • In their zeal to get rollin', they forgot to close the lower fuselage hatch. Nearly took it out on a bump. But, glad they didn't. Amazing old bird.

  • @synthuser i thought the hatch was left open sos they could have a quick out in case of an emergency ...

  • It would be good to see her certified and flying

  • Definitely a "no frills" ship.

  • Hahah Allie...now get the Whistling Tit up and running.

  • @HomeLessGuyToDieFOr "I want lots of cargo"

  • What a good looking plane, way cool!

  • Lovely ot see and hear the old girl lumbering around under her own power. Must admit I was worried about the crew hatch too, you certainly wouldn't get away with it here!

  • Nice cold start! Around these parts pocket gopher mounds would have taken that nose hatch door right off though;D

  • I had the Airfix kit of this - 'Silver City Airways'.

  • Bebtó Zoltán from Hungary

  • There are one of these in storage at the airport I fly out of

    So ugly! I love it!

  • A big ups to the then management at Safe Air and the Marlborough Aero Club who made the preservation of this aircraft possible. And to Al Marshal and all the guys who keep her. I worked in the tower at Woodbourne when Safe Air was a going concern and once watched Bob Guard land one of these aircraft on RWY07 with a 25kt quartering tailwind! And it looked like a short field landing too. Someone has video from the tower of an 8+ B170 fly-past the day it all came to an end. Where is it??

  • Do let us know if you ever find out who has that video - we'd love to see it!

  • wow so great to see the ressurection of old airplanes!!

  • I bet the plane feels good now. .Ahhhhh that feels better !!!!

  • just went to the Omaka museum last weekend and sat in the cockpit, you don't know how amazingly high that is until you sit in one. Great video

  • does somebaody want to tell him he's left the crew hatch open!!!

  • Cute.

  • Respect from the Southend posse!

  • Still going strong, a bit of history that's still working today. even if it's only a taxi or two every 20 yrs or so. Well done everyone.

  • Very cool!

  • Ahhhh ! they are forgot to close the forward hatch . :-((

  • @alberttwo68

not realy when you are testing her u was to be able to jump out fast . ans not worry about the hatch...

  • @k9daniel2rv . Oh Yes Thank you! sure i've understood .

  • Fabulous video- great to see an awesome piece of aviation history come to life again-congratulations to all involved.

  • Thanks for this wonderful video. Bought back nostalgic memories as I flew in one converted for passengers from Ostende to Southend in 1961. It was wonderful but then I love planes. Many passengers were worried by the flames but I assured them that was normal! I was such a big head at 19! Thanks again.

  • Dear old thing ,,, beautiful !

  • Safe Air forgot to close the lower hatch ,, just a few inches to dig it into that soft grassy field, just add micro swicth and a light in the panel that read "Lower hatch closed" ,,,,,, greatt ,, great wonderfull looking aircraft, ,,, thank for posting.

  • Are they going to fly it?

  • Just wonderful!

  • That brought back a few memories... A great old bird... and work horse in her day.

  • has it flown yet??

  • applecounty...Yes, Sire, you are absolut right ! cheers !

  • what an ugly aircraft !!! the spitfire was the only "nice" plane !!

  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Lovely sound!!

  • What a lovely old aeroplane, just love the sound of these engines. Shame the crew forgot to close the access hatch to the cabin before taxying around on the grass, lucky they didn't hit a bump and damage it.

  • What kind of props are those?

    I can't tell

  • Holy hell, 20 gallons over 6+ minutes! Never imagined those big boys would burn so much fuel. Good to see her moving under her own power, keep up the good work!

  • @northernfirepower it because of the very uneficiant radials, but man those things soud so beautiful!

  • @northernfirepower LOL, that's similar fuel efficiency as to pouring it out on the ground and lighting it up. Beautiful plane.

  • Ugly like only a mother could love... but wow... some powerful looking and sounding engines! Amazing to see them kick out 20 years of filth!

  • Cool vid, love those Hercules engines :)

  • Can it be made airworthy???Classic.Well done chaps

  • An outstanding video.

    Bristol Hercules - love 'em.

  • yup, this is what I thought I saw down at the aeropark, I can't believe I got it so wrong.

  • Brilliant!

  • I saw her today at the Omaka air show,

    brilliant sound. Well done guys..

  • Nice job...I did'nt think that there were any of these in operation anymore. I heard a pilot that flew these aircraft many years ago refer to them as "diabolical contraptions". Good luck with her.

  • The term "Bristol Frightener" makes sense watching this video, snorting & wallowing around like that, what a great maw that plane has!

  • what sort of condition is the fuse and wings etc in?? does it have much corrosion? or is it in pretty good shape??

  • these engines are known to sludge up and block off oilways especally when they sit for long periods of time, did they have to de-sludge the engines before they ran them? the engines wouldnt last long if they are getting no or stuff all lubrication.

  • read the discription

  • Awesome. For years I had wondered if she was a runner.

  • Great stuff! Awesome to see the old girl chugging away. Congrats on the hard work. We have a new DVD that features a lot of Bristol footage.

  • nice work - happiness IS big bristols!

  • @Spad93 LOL

  • Fantastic! Boffo! Brill! Radgenurdle! I love these old bangers, Used to see them flying out over the Isle of Wight. 5 years ago made an Airfix model of a type 32. Great to see this, well done all

  • i regularly see this bristol parked i throught it was moth ball not going glad to see it still goes i wish someone or some organistion would get it flying again so we can see it at air shows, be great, use to remember seeing it flying between the islands north and south new zealand

  • Wonderful to see again, reminds me of the early 60s when as a schoolboy I used to lay in the ditch at the end of of the runway 35 Hurn (now Bournemouth) airport (UK) and watch the Siver City Bristols Freighters land and take off just a few feet overhead. Later Siver City moved to Lydd in Kent. I never saw another running until this vid. Thanks for posting and good luck

  • Bristol Hercules Series 734. Starting one of these engines or if you are lucky enough to start two, is like turning metal into music. There are no B.170's in the world that are doing what ZK-CPT is doing. She would love to tell you all about it at Classic Fighters 2009. See you there!

  • beautiful! i wish i had one of those to taxi around my back yard in!!!! would love to see her fly!

  • do you know what series the hercules are?

  • Absolutely lovely to see a Freighter living again, a huge well done to Alastair and everyone concerned. Big round engines rule the world!!!

  • I was born 40 years too late!

  • Very Well Done, Congratulations from Bristol lovers in the UK

  • An absolute treasure

  • What a gorgeous aircraft. So good to see old birds restored and maintained so, wonder if she'll ever take to the air again.

  • Nice work Allan, thanks for recording the event and making it available to all. I wish I'd pulled the lower crew door up before taxiing her. There was more ground clearance than it seems but it just looks a bit odd!

    Cheers,

    Al
